Fanart? No picture I've ever seen, although I must admit I'm trying to stay away from these things for fear of plot spoilers...

See? You can even see the logo on his chest if you look close enough.

Kaiden will still have that story-book narrator voice.

Does that not look like the Spectre symbol:

I'm not finding the post where someone did magical things with the contrast (or ... something) to make it clearer, but this at least is what we see.

The art is concept art, apparently, handed out to various magazines (because it appeared in various magazines).

Well, that establishes that. I actually like the idea of the VS as a spectre.

Well, look at that. Other than being on Vasir's armour, though, is it ever referred to in-game? I'm feeling kind of gypped that my Shep didn't get to use it.

Are they really qualified? Ash is a xenophobe and Kaiden while abit more trusting is a little to emotional for the job. I think Legion could be a good specter, though nobody would trust him...

Well remember on Horizon, Kaidan/Ash said he had to report to the council, not the Alliance.

So the council sent him/her to Horizon, that might have been the start.

Ashley? Not so much.

Ash is not a xenophobe, she just doesn't trust aliens.

She worked with Kirrahe's men just fine and talks to the aliens on elevators civilly. She hates Liara's guts for one reason or the other(jealousy) but that's it.

If Ashley is a Specter, she can find her own ride around the galaxy. I mean I like Ashley, don't get me wrong, but I don't need some pushover to even *think* they can surpass or out command my MaleShep, there's a reason why I always picked Liara over her.

The Virmire Survivor certainly has better credentials than Shepard did back when Shepard got the nod. The VS helped saved the galaxy: Shepard's resume was defined by not dying in a single battle.

I'm guessing it wasn't your charisma or leadership score.

A spectre should be willing to die to save the council or in other words Aliens. I doubt Ashely could do that. She only worked for Kirrahe because Shepard said she had to. She would always put her own species first, a spectre should put the safety of the Milky Way first and foremost. Kinda like a Grey Warden does not look at races but skills

Well, "helped" is a relative term. As soon as I grabbed new squaddies on the Citadel, Ash and Kaiden never left the ship.

Above all else, I think the Council focuses on ability.  The Council members all tend to put their own species first.  Saren, long before he met Sovereign mind you, was extremely racist towards humans to an extent that leaves Ashley's bias in the dust.  It won't stop them from recruiting her, especially since humanity is on the Council now.  Ashley won't disobey orders (Except for Shepard).

Er, no. Shepard didn't say she had to, Ashley volunteers for it, saying Kaiden would be needed for the bomb.

Is there some bizaar field around Ashley in which people hear the exact opposite of what she says?

The game has no way of identifying it, nor does it really care: even the comics stress that Shepard more or less took his entire team everywhere. The lore doesn't acknowledge benchwarmers.

I've just been spoiled, damn.

I find it humorous so many are quick to ridicule Ash based on her beliefs when in reality she reflects Humans fears/mistrust of alien life quite well.

Humans, they're a bunch of hypocrites imo.

Not only that, but her concerns are pretty much confirmed time and time again: the Council races haven't been willing to gon on a limb and expose themselves pretty much any time Humanity has asked for their help.

Oh I'm so happy I read this post. I feel the exact same way though more strongly. I don't dislike neither Ashley nor Kaidan (though I always romance Liara, just for other reasons) but I do not want them telling Shepard what to do. I'd even go as far as to say they would make decent Spectres but no where near the level of Shepard, the most competent one should be in charge and that will always be Shepard. To ash/kaidan I'd say: I'm in charge and I will always be, don't like it... leave my ship either through the door at the next stop or through an airlock in deep space once you start annoying me. (I know harsh but I don't need newbie spectres telling me what to do)

Well, Kaidan outranks Shepard when it comes to Alliance ranks, so if Shepard didn't regain Spectre status in ME2, then he could boss Shepard around if he wants to.

That's just Kaidan, though.

If you were reinstated, they are at most equal to Shepard in rank.  Considering that Shepard is more experienced and their former commanding officer, I see no reason for too much complaints on their part.
