I am experiencing an issue in awakening which means I am stuck in combat and cannot fix it.

I was using a party of anders, oghren and nathaniel. I had been doing the quest in the city that gets you to help the smugglers, and i was going up to kill the leuitenant. I triggered the cutscene in which the leiutenant told me i was not supposed to be there, and said i would be leaving, and went to loot the chests before fighting him. My memory is somewhat fuzzy about how i actually started the fight, but i know it was through interacting with the leiutenant after looting the chests.

In the fight, i controlled only my male rouge dual weilder, and as i was on casual i left the others to do their stuff and focused on normal melee attacks. Upon the ending of the battle, i looted the corpses, and went back up on to the small platform in the middle, only to find that oghren was seemingly glitched slightly into the furniture up there, and was doing exactly the movements he would have, if he were doing his normal melee attacks with his two-handed axe. Except his weapon was sheathed. This meant i was locked in combat.

I tried to pump it up to nightmare difficulty, but the only AoE spell i had was cone of cold, so I could not kill him before he regenned.

This lead me to try to find a way out of combat. i could leave the roof, and everyone would follow, including oghren, and i could enter and leave the battlements. i could not, however, exit combat or change the general area (go anywhere with a different map assigned to it). Oghren's side thingy next to his avi showed no action being taken, and every different sub area (battlements, guard tower roof etc.) he went to, he would stand at the place he last entered it from. i couldn't even go to the world map. Please help, i have no way to solve this issue and my last save was at the very beginning of the game!

I will provide any extra info as needed, if possible.

Harsh way to learn a lesson about playing these sorts of games: save frequently, and keep different save files.

What you describe sounds like a glitch to me, so I'm not sure if there is a solution as such.

I would first suggest that you go to the load game option to see if there is a recent autosave closer to where you are stuck, because that would be your only real recourse should you have to leave the game.

Since you cannot even leave the area to go to the world map suggests that the game still sees that there is an active battle going on; i.e., that there is still some enemy that you have yet to kill hence still being stuck in combat it would seem. Have you tried finding this possible enemy?

Also, have you tried to take control of Oghren directly?

Not sure what else to suggest. Perhaps others can provide some insight.

Had this myself....

Are you able to save? If so...save.....reload....problem should be fixed.
If not....try to 'leave' Oghren.....get so far away from him....his 'combat' should not affect you saving.....save...reload....

Other than that....can't think of anything I'm afraid.

Hm...forgot about that little trick about legging it as far away as possible. (I think my marathon DA2 sessions have effected me head.)

This seems like something that a reload should fix. Hopefully you have a recent file to use. Never rely on one save file or autosaves.

oghren can't be moved, even if i control him. And I've decided to just start from the beginning. i wasn't that far in, and i screwed up a few times. I'll try again on Tuesday. Thanks for the help, guys.

When you restart, keep extra save files. I usually have 3 files: one that I use regularly, one from the start of Vigil's Keep, one from the start of Amaranthine and etc. If you have just one main file, then you would be forced to start over from the beginning if you got stuck, or continue on with a glitched game or character.

Maybe Oghren was drinking before you left out on the journey and he forgot his weapon...
