Hi Toolset fans and modders

We have now expanded the Dragon Age Toolset forums, opening up new sub-forums to help Toolset users discuss their work, ask questions on their field of interest and fins help from other users in the same fields. Please check out the newly expanded Dragon Age Toolset forum section.

We now have sub-forums for building and area creation, custom content, Audio, Scripting and a forum for you to announce your projects and seek peopel interesting in helping or playing your projects. We will open more sub-forums if the demand arises.

Please remember that in your profiles here on the BioWare Social Site you can create groups and projects to help you manage your time and communicate with others. These forums are here to assist you communicating with fellow toolset enthusiasts.

Have fun. :)

There is a forum permission problem they are trying to resolve.  In the meantime, you need to log out to see the new sections.  (Obviously, they are empty anyway atm.)

See http://social.biowar.../8/index/245257.

Too many forums make it hard to find stuff and lead to folk not reading everything they should read.

Same goes for not enough forums too though, as things get lost to the depths VERY quickly. A reasonable amount of forums, logically named, works just fine provided people post their topics in the correct one.

I agree...it's a balancing act between having enough forums with good enough "buckets" for information so that posts don't get shoved off the front page in twenty minutes (what's happening now during prime time) and having forums that are too sluggish and give the appearance of a slow community.

There's much discussion of this in the thread that was linked to, and I invite any/all interested parties to please give opinions and thoughts as we decide what new forums are actually going to end up added.

I think part of the issue rests with people that create the topics.

For example, if someone has question/issue with Lightmapping, I would suggest the topic subject be named "Lightmapping Problem (with specific issue)", rather than some goofball subject like "What the heck????".

Frankly, it's annoying to have to click a thread to figure out what someone's problem is.....and it leads to a bunch of redundant questions.

If I were a mod, I'd delete threads that weren't specfic (so it's probably a good thing I'm not a mod).

Yeah, I know.  I'm not normally such a hard case.... I'm sure after I get a better handle on the toolset, I"ll become more patient.

But when you are hit with a showstopping problem, and go to the forums for help, wading through a bunch of doofus threads like "Hey Hey Hey" and "Look what big mamma got cooking!" is freaking annoying.

As you can probably tell, this forum appears to be locked for general posting. I don't THINK that's intended, and is probably a side-effect of the new forum sections being opened up. I'm trying to find out more information.

How would I have a topic moved?

Just ask a moderator (via PM) to move it for you. I'm on the toolset forums probably most often of the moderators, so just PM me which thread you want moved.

I would love to see a cinematics sub-forum for discussions around converstations, cutscenes, FaceFX. Now discussions around that just fits into the general sub-forum, but are specific to some of us to be worth a sub-forum.

Is it still possible to suggest a new sub-forum for the Toolset? It seems that "custom content" is going to be battered with people showing off their mods as well as people asking questions, etc. Could we get a "Near Release/In Beta/Finished Projects" posting forum so we can more quickly find download-ready projects, or find projects that are requesting testing?

Edit: To clarify, most of the posts on the front page of Custom Content are a mix of {REQUEST] and questions about the possibility of modding this or that, with very few actual projects. There's a lot of wading through Requests to find the actual meaty stuff.

@Eyeball88 - that's what the project announcement and recruitment thread is for...requests for custom content will happen in the custom content forum for sure, with perhaps someone answering that they are working on it and a link to their project, but ultimately, for finished/in progress work, that's all about the announcement forum down at the bottom.

@Machinima - yeah, I know, the Biodudes are really busy with something and there's only like, one or two of them that have the powers to alter the permissions on the forums. Craig Graff has even posted in there, and then is confused about why no one else can see it. :) I'm still working on it!

The CC forum is about 95% requests right now. That isn't a fault with the forum categorization. It is because there are a lot more people who want someone to make them a custom head/creature/tileset/whatever than there are people willing to actually do the work.

Furthermore, at this early stage there are only a few people doing productive work in this area (Adinos for one) and a lot of other people waiting for the results of their work before they start making stuff.
