When I click Play on the launcher nothing happens, no error messages, no game, no black screen, no anything.
I've looked around to see if anybody has this problem and I can't find anything.
I'm using the real disc version purchased from Half Priced Books.
Specs:
CPU: Intel® Pentium® Dual CPU E2200 @ 2.20GHz OC to 3.03Ghz
RAM: 2.93 GB
Display Adapter: NVIDIA GeForce 8400 GS
VRAM: 512MB
Sound: Realtek HD Audio output
OS: Microsoft Windows XP Professional x86 SP3
Nothing happens when I click play on the launcher.

Although the game ought to TRY to tun, it's not going to be able to do so at all well with such an inexpensive and elderly PC. The CPU is Intel's Core Two version of a Celeron, with almost all of the cache RAM ripped out, and the video card is so slow that it was named in the official requirements as inadequate to work with the game environment's interaction functions, sorry.
Even if you do stumble onto whatever the fault is keeping the launcher from working correctly, your system will fail right away when you cannot arm yourself in the first scene.

If you are in the market for an upgraded video graphics card, you CPU is going to affect performance to some extent though the "bottlenecking" problem, but for only $95, after the rebate, an HIS branded Radeon HD 5770 is a fantastic bargain:

I ran something called vcredist.exe from disc1 in the software folder under visualcrt and now it plays fine. I can run everything on highest settings but on lowest resolution and gameplay is smooth.
Thanks for your suggestion on a new vid card but whenever I get around to upgrading im just gonna build a new box, my mobo kind of holds me back.

I'm having the same problem. However, I have been playing ME2 for ages now and it's never really had any problems like this. I have a more or less up to date computer and am using the digitally-downloaded version. Whenever I click play, configure, or uninstall, nothing happens, but when I click any of the others, they do what they are supposed to do.

1) Please register the game on the forums. This is not an accusation, but given the spate of users with illegally downloaded copies coming to the forums asking for help, forum registration is the only way we can be sure we are dealing with a legit copy. Illegally downloaded copies include hacked and modified files which could be either corrupt, or full of malware. Once its registered, we will be happy to help. Forums Registration here;
