Of all the inane issues people have with DA2, I'm of the opinion that this is by far the... inaniest? They don't look much different from how they used to look anyway. If anything, their design just brings them more in line with how the appearance of the speaking Darkspawn in Awakening.

And yeah, the Origins design is a pretty blatant Orc ripoff. It's odd to me that people claim not to see it; the other Origins players I've met make jokes about it all the time.

I wouldn't call it inane. If I'm roleplaying a person who lives in a world that is in constant fear of Darkspawn, then they should look threatening. Whether the Origins' look was similar in appearance or not to Orcs or Uruk-Hai or whatever, they were still very well designed so as to inspire fear into the hearts of men.

I look at DA2's Hurlock soldiers and I wonder how anyone could be threatened by them. They do not inspire fear to me. And if I don't feel that they are threatening, how can the person I'm roleplaying feel that they are?

If Darkspawn were real and the Hurlocks looked like they did in Origins, I would **** myself out of fear. But if they were real and I saw them in DA2's likeness, I would just point at the Hurlocks and laugh.

Darkspawn should look like the ones in DAO.

They shouldn't look like a modern version of Skeletor from the old He-Man cartoon.

Id rather see a horde of "clownspawn" than a horde of Tolkien rip-offs.

The DA2 Emissaries look like they're into S&M. Whenever I see one on-screen, I think of that scene in Pulp Fiction. The one where Butch is trapped in the basement with Zed and the gimp.

OooooMG! You too? Why is it that, that scene goes into my head for just about all S&M references? Then it's quickly followed with the thought of just how cool swords would be in a fight. Messy, yes. But megacool nonetheless.

I had never noticed it before someone else posted a pic in this thread before and that was the first thing I thought of too.

Without that thing, they're pretty good in design. With it I have nightmares of Darkspawn/Ghouls doing S&M to each other.

Again, better their current look than a blatant LotR ripoff.  If I wanted to play LotR, I'd go play LotRO or something.
