Darkspawn, we ask you to change to your old look. You are too cuddly now.

I think the DA:O designs worked better because you do get the sense of the Darkspawn being the corrupted versions of the various races in Thedas, not only with the size differences but because they look corrupted; from the rotting flesh to the shabby patchwork armour. The DA2 versions are simply too uniform and clean (and yes, the similarity to Skeletor doesn't help) to take seriously.

I do get what the designers were trying to achieve with a more cohesive world/creature design but in this case I agree they made a fairly substantial mis-step and I wouldn't agree the originals were too similar to LoTR - but eye of the beholder and all that.

Am I the only one who finds it hilarious how the new darkspawn's teeth are whiter than people's teeth in DA:O, and their hands looks less repulsive than people's hands in DA2?

Good point on the teeth, I don't recall getting close enough to a hurlock to check out their manicure though, I know that most normal(young-ish) people in DA 2 should have hag hands like they do though. Not unless they've been messing about in the bath for way too long.

There was only one character redesign I liked in DA2 and that was the qunari. Even then I kept asking myself "why aren't these qunari soldiers wearing armor?"

No armor, cause when you're that buff, you wanna show off!

And I do too, except the horns. too large, makes doorways hard to navigate.

I kinda like that elves got their own models I just don't like that they look like the Navi from Avatar. Some of the elves look like ****. Especially the servant and Zevran.

bah I hate it when people compare them to the Na'vi. I already gave an examination that there were barely any similarities to the two races in another thread. I just don't see them as being similar.

Meh....

A casual observation does make them appear slightly similar. While they're obviously not carbon copies of the blue space elves, the changes from their DAO look to DA 2 were such that the unfortunate comparisons would be made.

I personally think it's the forehead what done it.

The main difference is that the Na'vi have their forehead extend down and become their nose, while the elves just have their nose extend into their forehead.

I did say casual observation. Unless you have images of the new elves and the Na'vi side by side, it's not exactly easy to pick out the differences, besides the position of the ears perhaps.

on another thread I posted it, but I'd have to go digging to find the actual comparison.

I wish I had the option to weed out the threads I've posted in and look at only my posts instead of having to dig through who knows how many pages in who knows how many threads.

The new darkspawn look silly imo. Please go back to the original designs for all of them. Thanks!

ok, because I don't want to dig around for the post I made I'm just going to post pics and people can make the comparisons themselves.

Also, take note of what I said a few posts before.

Na'vi:

Elves:

There you go.

As you can see, the nose difference I described a few posts above is there. Also, Na'vi ears begin very high up, whereas Elven ears begin where normal ears begin.

That's not all of the differences, but I'm really tired so I'm going to call it a night.

While I've spoken at length about my dislike of the new hurlock design in the past, I have yet to mention my thoughts on the new elves. There's only one thing that bothers me about the new elf designs, and that's the ears. Not only to they look clownish to me, but they remind me of anime elves:
http://www.google.co...=og&sa=N&tab=wi
...and personally, I'd rather not have anime in my RPGs. If I wanted anime elements, I'd play a JRPG.

edit: note also the comically large eyes.  Very anime, IMHO.

Mr Writer Redux, you're preaching to the choir, mate.

TRSniper4, was your eye reference about the space elves or DA 2 elves? Because DA 2 elves seem to have normal sized eyes? And I hope you have the same opinion on the "revamped" combat as well ie, anime and terribad, considering the setting.

I would pay danged good money if someone came along with an armor mod of He-Man's power harness, sword and shield. Oh, and modded out his Mabari for a Battle-Cat.

I'd also like to see some new Darkspawn/creatures in Thedas. Something like this:

I doubt it could be a new type of Darkspawn, but damn.... if I saw this in a DA game.

Ancient elven construct, again. Looks a little like a varterral. They can be the uglier cousin.

Maybe it's a varterral queen. Or even a corrupted varterral queen?
Edit: Or it could be some form of an early Broodmother concept. Or....like.....what Any colonies do. You got a queen (Broodmother), and Princess (which could be this).

I wouldn't mind the old emissary design if they at least made them look a little different than a regular Hurlock.

Either design to me I'm fine with.

I have to ask though, what's the lifespan of a Darkspawn? We've seen an Ancient Hurlock once, but we killed him. Do Darkspawn die naturally? Do they live forever?
