Darkspawn, we ask you to change to your old look. You are too cuddly now.

now, let's see..... Genlocks. They're awesome now. Image IPB

This artwork is pretty amazing, but I would like to see the new designs get a whole tainted aspect if possible. Darkspawn shouldn't appear completely clean

It's hard for me to tell, but these guys don't seem tainted. The whole design is great, but perhaps the color of the Genlocks should be changed to black/dark tan instead of Kirkwall beige? And give them some sort of appearance that says tainted.

That said, I'm in love with the new Genlock look and think this is the right way in terms of appearance for them.

Why the heck is a genlock alpha the size of an ogre to begin with? Somebody should be asking some hard questions of the darkspawn redesign team, because I don't think you can find the baby with a GPS now.

They're the size of Hawke, who is a small human. The camera angle is facing upwards, and Hawke isn't standing up straight, so things seem out of balance.

But Hurlocks should at least be a little taller than the Alphas. A few inches taller at least.

That's a new one. I've never heard them referred to as ninjas before. Image IPB

^ I think they should go for the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle look for the shrieks... I can see how awesome that would be, we already got Gorilla Genlocks, I want ninja-turtles.

They're kind of cool.  But when I see one I think "giant cookie dough monster".

Oh look.

GorillaClownSpawn. Yay.

Seriously, still think they look ridiculous even having looked at the Legacy gameplay demo.

None of the new DS look tainted to me. Black, purple, green I don't care. As I said I'm tired of brown, tan and red. This genlock alpha looks like a washed out tan. sigh

You would. If DA3 has a gorilla summon, you won't care what they look like. Admit it. Image IPB

But it would be genuinely awesome to have a gorilla companion/summon!

That alone would be enough for me to preorder whatever game it was in.

My problem with the "new" darkspawn is that they look far too much like zombie versions of their base races on steroids. They look too much like their original races when these are supposed to be genuine darkspawn born of broodmothers, thus looking more monstrous with presumably only traces of the original race leftover.

And thats not even speaking of absolutely comical and terribly stupid looking armor. That stuff is just mind bogglingly atrocious.

And it seems BioWare might be teaming up with Nintendo- maybe its to tap into a broader market opportunity:

I don't see how that follows. Being born from a ghoulified human they could (IMO should) still look obviously human in origin (while still obviously tainted). If I wanted to fight unrecognizable monsters ... well, I don't. I don't want to fight unrecognizable monsters. Not as darkspawn who are supposed to spawn from the races of men. Also it makes what the Architect did to that Warden more believable.

Just calm down. :P Granted I'm not a fan of the armor design either (overall), but it didn't kick my dog and ****** on my rug.

Yes, please BioWare, if the darkspawn ever show up at all, again, and I am assuming they will (They were killed off). Please, bring back the old designs for ALL of them. Seriously, they aren't scary at all. They make me laugh, and then get sad for the diseased and putrescent beings they were.

Was anyone tempted, besides me, to yell "BY THE POWER OF GREYSKULL!" Every time you saw them? Just me? Okay.:lol:

LOL!!  And this thread speaks to one of my complaints about DA:2.     The Darkspawn were fierce,  the Ogres were scarey ...I don't know what to make of the "darkspawn" in DA:2.      When you first get to the top of the tower of Ishal in DA:O  and the cutscene happens,  and you view a huge ogre,   "eating something that you think might have been human once"....   That was impressive, that was intimidating.

DA:2  darkspawn.   No thank you, please bring back the darkspawn from DA:O.

Judging from the trailer, even normal genloks look like they'd be taller than hurlocks if they stood upright properly.

I can tolerate these clownspawn for now, but Bioware better redesign them again for DA3 and not end up with... anything even remotely resembling this.

I was under the impression that broodmothers get.. spiritually raped to death by the darkspawn. Then like a corrupted phoenix they rise and become multi-boobed monstrosoties. Corruption, the key idea behind it all. You don't turn them like a zombie or a vampire, you corrupt them, like Morgoth corrupted the elves into orcs. And that's the only Tolkien comparison that should be considered or entertained.

"First day, they come and catch everyone.
Second day, they beat us and eat some for meat.
Third day, the men are all gnawed on again.
Fourth day, we wait and fear for our fate.
Fifth day, they return and it's another girl's turn.
Sixth day, her screams we hear in our dreams.
Seventh day, she grew as in her mouth they spew.
Eighth day, we hate it as she is violated.
Ninth day, she grins and devours her kin.
Now she does feast, as she's become the beast."

They are corrupted. Brockololly was saying they must be corrupted to the point of being nigh unrecognizable in order to fit the lore. I do not see how this is true fact rather than just individual preference, and I think it would make them less interesting personally.

Orcs in LOTR (at least the movies) aren't exactly unrecognizable from elves, they've got the ears... and they're humans wearing make-up just like the elves are.

I don't like the art style they changed to at all. I like the more realistic look in DA:O. The darkspawn in DA2 remind me too much of the cartoony triangles and polygons you see in legend of zelda

Eh...I just think the DA2 darkspawn look too much like diseased versions of their original races that have been hitting the gym and some growth hormones. They look like they have bad skin conditions and maybe haven't showered in a couple weeks. IMO, they need to be more monstrous to the extent that they're darkspawn first and you only see elements of their original race are more like vestigial elements left behind after having been brewing in a broodmother and plopped out.

I don't think Origins had it perfectly necessarily, but like so much else with DA2, I think they swung too far the other direction and now they look too much like their original races and not a unique breed of creatures that only used the original races as a framework.
