Darkspawn, we ask you to change to your old look. You are too cuddly now.

Hurlocks in DA2 looked like clowns and frankly, comical. Not exactly how we players like to see in supposedly dangerous swarms of creatures potentially able to bring whole nations to their knees with blights. It's not just the Skeletor-like the way the look, it's also the way they move. The ease at which Hawke dispatch them further reinforces that off perception. Unlike the original DA's hurlocks, these bunch doesn't give the almost imperceptible vibe that they're originally humans, that everyone tainted by the darkspawn taint will eventually become like that. The way hurlocks have this almost grinning all the time look in their faces with their sharp teeths did the trick well.
Much prefer the original ogres too. I'd say retain DA2's skin but use back the original model.
I remember Matt Goldman, lead art director for DA wanted to change the darkspawn so that they could give the sense that they're all from a single tainted and diseased army. I thought DA2 achieved that pretty well - all of the Darkspawn now has this diseased look about them, mostly shown by their brown, diseased skins. I suggest they retain this skin and go about improving the models.

I'm a bit confused about the lack of Genlocks in the game. Are they not supposed to be the most numerous of the darkspawn?
Not that I'd really like to see a horde of zombified apes descend upon me every time I venture into the Deep Roads. I might think I'd walked into a secret Umbrella facility or something.
I admit that it was odd to not see any Genlocks in the Deep Roads, but I just rationalize it that all of the Genlocks in the Kirkwall area were trying to free Corypheus and they got trapped there since his prison does trap anything that wanders in.
How can you rationalise that
every
single
damn
genlock was trying to free Corypheus? I mean I'm sure you know it's far fetched in the first place, but come on. There are some theories which just aren't even worth considering.
Besides, if you do Legacy in Act 1 why are there no genlocks in the Act 3 DR? Or if you do it in Act 3, why aren't they in the Act 1 DR?
Oh I know it's Farfetch’d, but it's better than nothing.
I mean, Genlocks have a propensity to be found in the Deep Roads. Corypheus is able to call on anything that bears the Taint. So, perhaps the Genlocks were heading to the expedition's area, but when they passed underneath the Vimmark Mountain Pass, Corypheus called to them and trapped them there. Because IIRC, the Vimmark pass is to the west of the Deep Roads area that Hawke goes to.
Then if I did Legacy in Act 1, I've killed all of the Genlocks there. Depending on when I did Legacy, it could make sense for there to be no Genlocks in the Deep Roads Expedition (if I saved Legacy for one of my last quests).
But as far as Act 3's Deep Roads go, I can't explain that if I did Legacy in Act 1. So this really only applies to me doing Legacy in Act 3, as there wouldn't be any Genlocks in the Deep Roads because they got sidetracked and trapped.
And I just had to. Anytime I see far fetched, I can't help but do so.

Definitely need improvement for Hurlocks and Ogres. They were better looking in Origins.

Personally, I'd prefer it if the Ogres have completely gray or purple skin much like Origins did, but have a face that looks more Kossith-like.
I don't really want them all to look like they're from a single tainted army. They all come from different races turned into broodmothers, so they should all have a different skin tone to reflect on that. In my opinion of course. Different looks are fine, but a uniform skin tone just seems.... odd.

Kossith as in the Qunari?
Am sure they are other ways to give all the sense that they're all Darkspawn. Or perhaps there isn't a need in the first place LOL. We gamers aren't stupid, we can tell right away what's darkspawn and what isn't, at least to me.

Yea a Kossith is the horned or hornless giant. Qunari means "people of the Qun", which applies to humans, elves, dwarves, and Kossith who follow the Qun.
And fair point. Still, even if it would be obvious, it should at least look better.

I mean, come on, the status of the "Creature" in Donovan Hock's vault (ME2) is of the DAO ogre, not the DA2 ogre.
Clearly, as a collector of priceless artifacts, he could appreciate the value of the original style of ogre.

Take the Hurlock Alpha route with the rest of the darkspawn, though, and I'll be pleased enough.
