plus not to start the whole meer vs. hale thing, i actually think meer does the VA'ing alot better. his consistency is better than hales overacting.

What do you think appeals most to you about it?

I prefer male if only because I like to insert some of myself in these games.
I think I know what it is that you insert

Basically, I have a MaleShep for Ashley's romance plotline (Paragade, about even but more paragon), a FemShep for Liara's romance (pure paragon) and a FemShep for Kaiden's romance (almost pure renegade, except for Feros. Just can't bring myself to kill off the colonists.)
I want to see how various choices make a difference in ME3, so I have different Sheps...and while I like both MaleShep and FemShep, it's interesting that I've got 2 Fems and only one Male...

yup, sorta the same thing for me. i only really play manshep because its far more immersive for me. playing as a chick sorta breaks that for me. i tried playing as femshep a couple times but i just couldnt get into it.

Same here on the Meer/Hale thing, yes, I did choose not to mention it though, due to the flaming 'who's the better VA' inevitabilities.

This, saddly Hale is way too much overacting on too many occasion for me...
And Meer sometime just don't give a **** about emotion, but he is a bad ass marine, so everything is alright

Although I know a lot of males who play FemShep, perhaps because they prefer Hale over Meer for voice acting. The FemShep community is about 50/50 when it comes down to the female/male players playing her, it seems.

For ME1, I don't really have a preference for subsequent playthroughs. I'm not a big fan of the romance options present (simply personal preference), so the impact on gender is relatively minor.
For ME2 I greatly prefer a manShep because I really like two of the three romance options available. Because of those relationships, it works out for me.
For ME3, my first playthrough is definitely going to be manShep, because I want to continue the relationship from ME2. But I fully intend to see what femShep brings afterwards.

I usually play manShep, but am currently running through a femShep game...I am finding I am just not connecting with her and the game is becoming a bit of a chore for me....so have just become curious as to what people prefer and why? It would be brilliant if people could post their thoughts without being flamed.
About not connecting and the game being a chore: I've found this happens to me, but NOT because of gender. It happens because the character I created wasn't very interesting to me, regardless of being male or female.
So maybe that's the problem and it just happened to also be a femshep?

I actually have a few FemSheps, but what held me to these characters was the character model, more specifically the faces, because it's easier to make a good female face than a male one in ME.
Hale's voice acting is very subpar to me, and has often made playing as FemShep quite the chore.
I'm currently playing Bulletstorm, in which Hale also features, and I must say that I really don't get the hype. Once Trischka became a regular on my team, the game became a lot less enjoyable. Hale's VA is irritatingly bad.

Yep, I'm not too sure Aimlessgun....I actually don't think it's the character itself, I don't know....I DO always play a paragon Infiltrator and this femShep in a majority paragon Vanguard...I did very much enjoy her few renegade moments, to the point that I'm going to run my manShep through them....as for the Vanguard, I am no fan of CQC....I am just running her through on an easy setting because CQC eats me alive though I am finding a lot of enjoyment in the 'Charge' ability....But ME is about 50/50 on it's combat and dialog time.
It could just be the fact that her dialog delivery doesn't sit that well with me...I feel she comes across as harsh with something to prove, where as he comes across as much more business like, plus the fact that I find more joy in the eye candy I created him to be...I'm really not sure...properbly is the outstanding reason for this thread, I'm looking for something that clicks with me as to why my aversion.

All but one of my male Shepards have a romance in ME2, and that keeps me emotionally invested in his character. But my femShep? She's loyal to Kaidan. I have nothing to interact with except his portrait! So, post Horizon, I find that playing my femShep is a chore, because I have no romantic dialogue to look forward to. *sigh* Hopefully she'll be more fun for me in ME3.
And, you know, even my gay male Shepard is more fun for me than my Kaidan-loyal femShep, because even though my gayShep is despairingly single, I can't help but imagine that he's trying to hit on Thane and Garrus and Jacob and Zaeed, but none of the boys are taking the hint.

But my femShep? Ugh, she has to watch what she says and be extremely careful not to trigger a romance because heaven forbid Kaidan think I cheated on him, and so, yeah, playing her is a chore. I'm eager to be done with it. AND THERE HAD BETTER BE A ROMANTIC PAYOFF IN ME3.
My canon Shep is still single, I have my hopes for Kasumi or Gianna in ME3....romanced Tali with one Shep, was so cute...
