As for Garrus going through a self hate phase. The way he talks about his stylish techniques, his reach and his prowess in combat doesn't sounds like self hate to me. In fact, it sounds like the opposite.

He does say that he sees himself as a bad turian. But the way he describes turians as not being able to bend the rules to exact justice on those who deserves it, then actually makes this comment seem less like an insult than it implies.

He was just saying he isn't your stereotypical turian. His badassery surpasses even the typical turians.

On the contrary. My english teachers were always pleased with my performance in class. They admired the way I'd listen to them pronounce a word multiple times before attmepting my own. They also approved of my agile alliteration and my tongue twisting turns of phrase.

I like Garrus, but Wrex makes him look like a kitten. Now that krogan is a badass. Zaeed too. And if this list is not limited to men, then I'd add Jack and Ashley to the list.

Depends on how long the list is. But no, even though Garrus is one of the best party members in ME, he isn't in my top 10 list (from BioWare games, Canderous Ordo easily crushes everyone)

Alright. For anyone saying Zaeed is more badass than Garrus, lets recap.

Zaeed / Garrus

Zaeed: Gun shot to the face
Garrus: A ROCKET. TO THE FACE. ( And up a few hours later.)

Zaeed: 20 years old grudge against the Blue Suns, not much to show for it
Garrus: "A few months" against the Blue Suns, Blood Pack, Eclipse and pretty much all of Omega COMBINED and basically crippling their whole infrastructure, killing their top lieutenants and almost getting their leaders before he ran out of time.

Zaeed: Continuously getting whatever team he has killed on his errands, himself probably the one betraying the others for himself to get away.
Garrus: The only way they got to him and his team was for one of his own to betray him, and even though he probably had an opportunity to leave, he went back to his team anway. Otherwise survived against all odds for months on probably the most dangerous and hostile station in the galaxy.

Zaeed: Has scars. Ugly ones. Jesus christ, old bastard, that's one crazy looking eye. Freak o' nature.
Garrus: Has scars. Sexy ones. Half his face is also cybernetics now. He's a godamn cyborg (and Shepard falls for him anyway!)

Zaeed: Yeah, we get it, he's a pretty good merc, and he puts his talents to good use. Good use meaning whoever has the biggest wallet. Because that's the only thing he cares for.
Garrus: Doesn't give a damn, man. He ****s things up just because he can.

Zaeed: Shoots people. Boring.
Garrus: Coughs people to death. Dude.

Shadow Broker on Zaeed: He's dumb and lost damn near everything because of it. Only alive because he's lucky.
Shadow Broker on Garrus: qualified by a super-intelligent demi-god alien monster as a genius only overshadowed by Shepard.


Addendum: Zaeed is one of my favorite character, yes, he is one hardass mofo. Doesn't hold a candle to the Space Batman, though.

I cringe everytime a Garrus/Tali is uber yadda yadda thread comes up. they are good characters...but they arent the only characters. Makes me dislike them cuz of the over exposure..not in game...but by fans....but thats my opinion.

No i do not count Garrus in my biggest baddest badasses list. If he managed to take out the Blue Suns, Eclipse, and Blood Pack bosses BY HIMSELF..then yeah. If he died while doing it...EVEN MORE AWESOME!!! the dude would have gone out like a true SAMURAI!!!

It goes without saying that video games original and biggest badass is Duke Nukem, but its been hard for a character to fill those shoes since he has been missing in action i think Garrus is close to it

Well, lets be reasonable here.

Zaeed was shot with a high powered pistol (assumption, could've been a rifle for all we know) through soft human flesh, relatively hard bone, and (probably) grazing the brain. 

Garrus (to be more precise) was shot in the body several times by a fvcking gunship, before taking a rocket to the collar of his thick turian armor (which resulted in facial scarring). Garrus, being a turian, was able to take hits that would've killed Zaeed, because he's got an exoskeleton.

Given the opportunity, I'd rather take my chances surviving what Garrus went through than Zaeed. Fighting for two days straight, getting carved by a gunship, and taking a rocket to the chest sounds like a cake walk compared to having someone shoot you (presumably) at close range. In the head. 

Zaeed doesn't have a grudge against the Blue Suns. He's got a grudge against Vido. He worked with the Sun's captain, Tarak before, so he doesn't exactly loath the whole group.

Saying that Massani get's his whole teams killed is an assumption. He dropped blind into a Krogan DMZ! He had to fight his way through cramped corridors on a cargo ship. He's had to fight land wars, and put down rebellions. These are situations that don't exactly promote the same "clean and surgical" kill zones that Garrus, with his exemplary tactics, can pull off. 

Yeah, Zaeed has ugly scars and a fake eye. I'm willing to bet that he's part cyborg too. You don't survive a gunshot to the head, and heal naturally in 216X. 

Basically, Zaeed is the human Wrex, and Wrex is probably better than Shepard. 

If Garrus is Batman, Zaeed is Boba Fett. Both are incredible warriors. I think I fight between them would hours. But in the end, Zaeed is just too experienced in one-on-one conflicts.

It only took Grunt till he was, what, 48 hours old to figure it out? And Garrus is how old, exactly? Hard to tell with dinosaurs. Of course, that would mean he might be related to Yoshi, which increases his chances of being a bad ass. Still not sure if that makes him the Baddest Ass That Ever Did Ass, though.

Wow, way to crap all over Zaeed, dude. I mean, Bobba Fett? Incredible warrior!? Doesn't he share the same DNA as the those Keystone Cops wannabes, the Imperial Stormtroopers (sci-fi equivelent of DA2's Templars)? Wasn't he taken out ACCIDENTALLY by a blind man wielding a stick? Nice post but my inner lore**** wanted this to be clear, turians don't literally have an "exoskeleton". Their plates don't offer any kind of protection except against radiation, and they are sensitive to pressure. If I remember correctly, the codex compares them to human nails.  Furthermore, there are many real life instances of people surviving gun shots to the head. It's not common, but it happens a lot more often than people think. On the other hand, you don't even need to be hit directly by a rocket to be blown up by it...

It feels like Garrus, Tali, and Wrex are badass in a way that is more believable (in a good way). They also make more of a personal appeal to the players than most videogame badasses. Alyx from HL2 though feels like she's on the same level, but that's partially because of the different presentation styles. HL2 is first person w/o breaks for cut scenes, and is much sparser than ME giving Alyx a lot of screen time. Garrus has good cut scenes and game play showing him as a bad ass,, but wrex is way more crazy-epic in his scale (thesher maw kills, taking over clan *********....He's pretty badass. Tali comes off as badass because alot of us are much closer to "being in her shoes" so to speak. She started out as just a Quarian girl doing her coming of age pilgrimage right (AKA part serious right of passage, part go out and party while your young. Kind of like spending a year in Europe for American students) and then gets cought up in this crazy plot on a spaceship with a bunch of special forces guys of a different species.

I feel like most of us can empathize more with Tali's situation than "I was a cop. Then I quit and hunted criminals on my own building a team of specialists and elite fighters and took on 3 mercenary companies in a major spaceport and just have a sexy rocket scar to show from it."
