I know that. There are two of them, and the one in the top bar is for something different other than looking for posts (looking for members here, perhaps?) I think some folks assume they are the same, and don't try the correct one of the pair.

It was aimed at montana_boy in case he was indeed using the correct one. The one in the menu searches for users, and I think it used to search groups and projects as well (it was partially disabled at some point and I don't know how much of it is back).
