Soooo... I think I just did something stupid. :crying:

The story so far: Romance toe-in-the-water "handsome" convo with Alistair, approval in low 40s @ Interested. Now at Redcliffe for the first time. Alistair dumped his big dark Daddy secret on my female Mage elf; she didn't take it well and took the "I liked you. Now I don't even know who you are" path. Attempt at apology went less than well; romance kaput, approval is now in the high 30s @ Warm.

Conceptually, I'm okay with this, since for roleplay purposes it aligns perfectly with how I envision this relationship unfolding. Strategically, however, I wonder if I've made a grave miscalculation... did I just take myself off the Alistair Romance track irrevocably, or will there be a second chance to hop back on?

I will go back to an earlier save if need be, but would actually like to go with what I have, IF it can be salvaged at some point... advices?

~tsm (who really really wanted to title this post "Alistair: sloppy seconds?")

Well Alistair has a lot of romance triggers. You should be able to hit another one.

Thanks for the response. I'm going to hope for the best, and if all else fails, there's always tragic, brokenhearted and unrequited love and a mad dash at the Archdemon to make it all better!

Sounds like you've shut the romance down. And with Alistair this is sort of final (unless you know what you're doing and use an exploit to restart it).

You should be aware that sometimes your interpretation of a line varies a bit from what the writers envisioned.

Urgh? Really? Damn and blast... had I known that before finishing the Redcliffe undead battle (2 minutes ago!) , I would have rolled back to a pre-offended Alistair save... :(

Oh well... now I have reason to play through again with a (less prickly) Elf mage, I guess. And I'll keep my roleplaying to a bare minimum next time!

If you still have the handsome line than it is possible to restart the romance. Have done that myself for RP- reason once. (Used the I don't know you anymore and then the handsome line) If you have used that already....you are screwed what concerns his romance. Other trigger will not appear/ work anymore.

Edit: I saw you have used that line already (overlooked that in your post) ...well I think it is reload time then. Sorry. :/

I just got an e-mail from my DA guru, and she said:

"Maker, stop panicking! If you haven't talked to Al about lampposts yet - and I know you haven't -  that will probably do the trick. Give him a couple of gifts to buff his approval first, just to be on the safe side, and you should be fine."

So I'll give that a try, and if it doesn't work, at least I'll be able to pick up the Ultimate Sacrifice achievement on this playthrough.

There are also starter lines in the dialogues for his plot gifts- his mother's amulet and Duncan's shield.

I hoped the amulet would do it, so I blasted my way through Redcliffe Castle and dragged Alistair back to camp to give it to him. Sadly, Mom's amulet only had the "You're a friend. Of course I remembered" line and not the one about him being special so that didn't work... Reloaded and went to Plan B: 2 gifts for +19 approval; talked dirty to him (was actually surprised I had that option under the circumstances), then gave him the amulet plot gift, got a rose in return, and ended up at +86 Adore <3at a shamefully early point in the game, all things considered.

Roleplay shot to hell, heartbreak narrowly avoided, lesson learned...

All's well that ends in Alistair's tent!
