Now I see why these things get locked. Gay people rush to it, and say "ahhh must be homophobic" etc etc.

Shepard has been straight, from ME1-2. You can class your Liara romance as a lesbian one but it wasn't, she is a asexual alien. You can class Kelly as a romance, but it wasn't, just some stripping.

This just seems so forced to please the human rights/politically correct brigade. Why not have a muslim character while we're at it. And a handicapped Playable character?

I have nothing against gays, I just don't see why they are trying to ram this into a pre-existing story. It was a great idea for dragon age and future games, but I'd rather they spent the time on this making the relationships they do have in the game feel more worthwhile, and so would most tbh.

first your use of ram made me giggle...

secondly,
it is space...different galaxies, the game is chocked full of stereotypes. it's not "politically correct" to add homosexuality. it's a logical addition. i am heterosexual, and personally  i don't "agree" a lot of homosexual ideals, but there is nothing wrong with including it in the game. they will allow you to maintain the established relationships... i like my relationship with liara, or miranda, or jack...depending on my save...bioware adding homosexuality in the game won't impact it at all...

So I'm not homophobic.  I'm a straight male with many gay and lesbian friends, and I totally respect that.

But my issue with allowing a gay Shepard is more with how it's going to be implemented.  In Dragon Age 2, I was being all buddy buddy with Anders.  Then he declares his undying love.  I say not interested.. and he barely spoke to me the entire game and it was difficult to get his loyalty up.

I have no problem with homosexual relations in any game, but to me, this just seems like too much PC.  Shepard has most likely had 2 straight relationships already.

But if its in, I really hope it isn't forced.  Garrus is my buddy and we joke about our luck with the women, don't make him hit on me.

That isn't just an issue with gayShep, that's an issue with the romances in general. In DA2, Anders backs you into a corner just for being nice, regardless of whether Hawke is male or female. In ME2, it was virtually impossible to have a decent friendship with an LI of the opposite sex, because the conversation paths ended when you don't pick the romance path.

It would make much more sense if there were two well built paths - friendship and romance. And, if you turn down the romance path, you can still have a good friendship path with them.

Whatever anyone says,

they are sacrificing the story, for the sake of giving a very big minority of the playerbase a feature they want.

Male Shepard being gay is being shoehorned in. Nothing more, it's shoehorning in a feature that really doesn't go with what has gone before.

Yet when Bioware made Tali and Garrus romance, no one cared but oh no, Garrus liikes penis OMG RAGE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

maybe female turians have one

Not everyone is gay.  This is a fact of life.  Garrus and Wrex have not been written to be gay..  neither has Shepard tbh.  If he had, it would have been in there from the beginning.

A. That's the male Shepard you're talking about, not the female Shepard. My female Shepard is all over Liara and despite what she says about her gender and species, Liara is totally the female end of the relationship since she's the one who will carry Shep's babies! This was there from the beginning.

B. Maybe it would be there from the beginning, maybe not. I'm certain that not every gay person acts the same way as others, so who is to say that it wasn't just timing on Shepard's part? I could easily write off the "been there from the beginning" remark by saying Shepard was focused solely on his duty from the first two games, but in ME3, he decides to finally confront... well, whoever he will be able to choose. If Tali can be romanced by my Femshep, that's the way it will have to be for me in the first two games if I don't want any conflicting romances along the way.

Great news everybody: the moment ME3 starts, every person in the room who has the same gender as you starts hitting on you. Malesheps get to wear a pink frilly dress and a pink boa throughout the entire game and Mark Meer isn't going to use his Shepard voice any more, he's going to use his Jethann(sexy bi elf in DAII) voice. THIS voice.Oh, and you're forced to have sex with all your male companions to ensure their loyalty in the final mission. No more loyalty missions, just loyalty sex. I'm being serious here.

And rumor has it that that's what they're doing, so hopefully that'll solve a lot of problems for pretty much everyone. :D

Whatever you say, they aren't. Shepard isn't definitively straight, gay, or bi.

Again, it's optional content that has nothing to do you.

I agree with this.  Personally I think the less romance options the better.  ME1 was good, because you had 2 choices.  Your relationships with the other crew members were respect/friendship and they were well built and the romance was "special".

In ME2, DA2 and obviously ME3 also given this announcement, it just sounds like "We're going to write it so you can bang anyone", it will be a meaningless cut scene just for the sake of having it in the game.

The gay romances in DA have been exactly the same as the straight ones, so they aren't well written or realistic... just shoehorned in to fit a minority market.

What gay campaigners should be campaigning for is a well written homosexual character/relationship in a game.  Not a chance to have your character have the exact same relationship a straight female has in a shoehorned in feature to appease the PC brigade.

Well written homosexual characters, I'd have no issue with whatsoever.   But not everyone is bi.  Bioware need to realise that.

Not optional if characters are rewritten, which Bioware hasn't confirmed nor denied.

Gay players have been campaigning for this since the beginning. But, beggars can't be choosers, I'm just grateful Bioware has the cojones to include same-sex romances in the first place. :wizard:

Oh look, another "not homophobic" person is "concerned" about gay/bisexual characters hitting on their Shepard. Well, it sounds like this needs to be a thread titled "Why I Fear Gay Characters Hitting On Shepard" rather than "Why I fear Gay Shepard", because gay characters can still hit on Straight Shepard too, the way Anders was just as needy-flirty with my straight-guy Hawke as he was with my straight-girl Hawke and my gay-guy Hawke. The only one Anders wasn't all flirty with was my lesbian Hawke, who had pretty much already told Anders to eff off with his mage-craziness.

And if you reeeeeeeeally don't want to be known as homophobic, don't put the words "fear" and "gay" right next to each other in your thread title. That will help. Actually not being afraid of gay content will also help.

That turns into an argument of equality.

Some people want to have the saem exact romance because it doesn't show special treatment. Others want that special treatment. Personally I don't mind my FemShep having the same romance as a maleShep with Liara. Maybe a slightly modified dialogue for necessity to acknowledge gender, but I'm perfectly ok with having the same romance.

We are not discussing any romances until post E3.

In the mean time, consider this. If you do not want a homosexual Shepard, do not play a homosexual Shepard. Mass Effect has always allowed you to play your character. No romance is ever foisted on you.
