@ Solmyr

yep i know that, what i meant was:

every time one of my party members dies, i feel "bad", that means i've made something "wrong".

and yes must confess i do not like the "ok fight is over everyone back on his feet, ready to fight again" way of handling a CRPG.

ok i'm goin a bit OT, so i'll end it here, sorry guys

It's too costly to keep everybody alive everytime. It's a ton of potions. This game is nice also because you have not enough money to buy everything best.

And then there's mages

QFT.
No really.
I agree with most points everyone is making. Two-handers are not useless, and are the only melee class that can do anything against dragons- but they are far from the 'best'.

Really the only best there is are the Mages. But i'm okay with that, so whatevs->
:D.

EDIT: I am, ofcourse, talking about playing in Normal or Hard. I do not do the nightmares because I am a pansy little man who enjoys a challenge but can't keep up with the freaking beastly little guys. Just not me.
That said- I expect Mages are less omgwtfbbq awesome on Nightmare because of the intense amount of health everything has.

Whatever, whatever ... I just play for the fun of it... it's not like we have PvP here or I'd might want my AA back from NWN where everyone complained how overpowered he was but he could indeed kill everything and everyone, at least in the PW where I played and it was a RP server... slaying evil arrows got banned next day I had Sauron (DM controlled) rolling a 1 vs it... and died or passed out or whatever, whatever!

I'm in my 3rd run with my 2H maniac, just like me, (Normal then Hard now Nightmare) and in Nightmare for the first time I got the achievement for not falling once thru Ostagar/Tower section. I know, it's very early in the game, but I totally disagree to those that say a well built 2 handed swordsman will fall every battle and to me, experience with combat system, tactis and group management seems the best weapon in the game.

Who cares if Mages are better or more powerful? I hate playing spellcasters. Don't mind having them in my party though. But I do try to use several party setups for several different occasions. And it's all in the name of fun! I don't let them use Force Shield on anything but a major boss when my party needs some time to eat mushrooms like a crazy hobbit, regens spells reach full effect and healing perhaps.

If people want to exploit the cheap side of Mages being very very powerful and still have fun with it, so what? I love 2 handers and marskman, so I'll have a run with an epic elven archer someday.

What I really wanted to ask is: Does Dual Weapon Mastery allow wielding 2 greatswords? What's a ffull size weapon? that sounds fun too but I'll keep DW for a Rogue run sometime...

EDIT: Plus I love the one hard hit my 2hander has. 209dmg so far and I hope I'll get a better hit too. (I know mages and archers can get a one hit dmg much higher than that but so what? I love my 2 hander!)

I love my 2h Warrior/Champion. Stargfang decked out with runes is insanely powerful. Combine the paralyze rune with pommel strike and Emissaries drop like genlocks.

Yes, this is the standard cookie cutter 2H build. My PC is also a Starfang 2Hander.Very powerful hits at like 125 max, but slow and sloppy, PUMP STR and just lil dex

I'm not usually a 2H guy in RPGs but Alistair had a shield and I missed out on the first 2H companion and I dont like using dorfs...

but DPS wise it's not so hot.

Is Starfang a DLC added sword? Best I found in original game was Yusaris and Summer Sword, which I switched depending on the enemies. I was playing a fraking torrent but now, finally the C.E. was released in my country and it has all the DLC as bonus too, WK included. So I might go look for another cool sword .. hehe

Another point I forgot to think about before is why were activated talents designed to 'interrupt' the attack cycle in this game?

Correct me if my memory is buggering up, but in NWN1, didn't activated talents 'queue' into the combat cycle to activate in place of a normal attack when you wished? That seemed to work well. Why doesn't it work the same way here too? Designing the activated skills to interrupt your attack & slow your own attack rate down seems like a bad idea. That's like designing a movement ability to intentionally trip your character before the ability activates to give it's bonuses. How does that make any sense? Posted Image

It looks like they designed activated skills to give your combat prowess a step back in effectiveness 1st before it gives your combat effectiveness a step foward. I think the devs should reexamine this dynamic.

This hits 2Hers especially hard, thus could be the main cause of the 2H/DW disparity. Posted Image

IDK I think in KOTOR you could simply queue up 3 talents in a row, not sure why that isn't in DAO, it's greatly missed

I haven't played a 2h, but if the d-bag Warden recruit at the beginning of the game is any indicator, I totally agree with the subject line :)

In Kotor and NWN, combat was round-based. Here it is real-time, this is why you can interrupt attacks. Not being able to queue orders was a design decision, and it makes sense, things tend to change rapidly and you can't spam the same ability over and over due to cooldowns, so no real reason to stack orders.

this game needs to focus more on melee range too-

if 2handers got additional range for certain weapons, like the two handed long and greatswords in the game, then that would be a great improvement. and it SHOULD have that kind of improvement in melee since the additional range, combined with the defence of the advanced plated armors is what made dropping shields and the popularity of larger 2h longswords so attractive in real life.

I certainly remember disrupting spell casting with my Archer in NWN if they failed a check. Not sure if it is the same thing you're referring to though. ( but I still feel that DA has the same system, just with a hidden combat window that might log all our dice rolls... hmm... but without the 6 attacks per round.. damn, I'd love 6 per round with my 2hander... hehe)

i'll say this game (like every other CRPG) should focus more on non-fighting solutions of problems.
and yes i know 99% of players will disagree but ehi what can i do if i think like this? :P

Dual wielded weapons and talents look awesome though.

Especially Riposte or Flurry with two Saw Swords.

Any meathead can swing an axe.

It takes skill to stab someone in the large intestine then between the colar bones using Riposte, then in both lungs and the heart using Flurry, all in 5 seconds.
