I recently lost my first Mass Effect 2 Disc, of course this is needed to run the game. Is there any way around using the disc? Maybe an online download with my game code? (I have the second disc still)

Yes, if your game is registered, you can download the EA download manager and download your regirstered ME2.

This was also a solution proposed for the people of some country where they couldn't get DLC (language not supported), by that way they would have a conventionnal us version that is compatible with all DLC.

Note that if you use the EA download service, you will have to uninstall and then reinstall from the EA version to reset the registry entries to point towards the no cd version. You can keep your save games during the uninstall process.

Does anyone know how to go about this with the new 'Origin' program the Download Manager turned into? I've been searching and searching with no luck.

You are almost certainly going to have to call EA on their Chatline and get them to walk you through it.

Actually, for anyone else with this issue, I had to delete the Mass Effect 2 folder (for some reason, Uninstalling was grayed out from the Launcher, and Windows Program Manager didn't have an entry). Once it was gone, Origin's 'My Games' page for ME2 included a 'Ready to Download' button.

Hopefully this downloaded version won't require the disc.

I'm glad there's a legit way to play when you lose your disc, but I'm not particularly happy about having to delete and re-download 11.6GB of data over an unreliable connection just to reset a few registry entries. Why not just let you activate (or default to) the no-cd version on an existing install once you enter your activation code/EA login?

Guess I won't be playing tonight—I've got 2 and a half hours left on the download.

if it was that easy of a switch the pirates would have no problem stealing games.

I'm in the same boat. I do have access to a fast internet connection - but only for a few days. My only question is whether or not my Cerberus Network will still work. The card with the code on it is in the box with the discs - if I knew where that was, I wouldn't need to download the game in the first place. Do I need that code also? Can I recover it from my current (totally legit) install?

I kept all the installers for the DLC I got from the Cerberus Network, though - perhaps they will still work?

Cerberus code was only to be entered on this site to unlock the dlc and link it to your current bioware account. So once you get your game running, you will have to dl the dlc if you don't still have it stashed on your computer, then install it, play the game and connect to the network, ie open the second computer on the main screen. Once you have done that once you can play whenever you want connected to the internet or not, because you should only have to connect once with a dlc to have it authorized. You of course open the second terminal by entering the email and password of your bioware/ea account that you entered the cerberus code with.

DLC to be downloaded are listed in the list under your avatar PROFILE>>MY REGISTERED GAME CONTENT

Thanks! I do have all the original DLC installers, I just don't have the code available anymore. I did activate it the first time around - so I'm just concerned that when I re-install the game it will ask me for the Cerberus code again before it lets me use any of the DLC I already activated and downloaded. The Bioware site does recognize that I am authorized to download all the Cerberus Network files, so hopefully I won't have any trouble. I'd really like to play this game again. I start training for a new job next week, but I have this entire week to goof off. :)

Everything works just fine after re-install. It didn't ask for the Cerberus Network code again, so it's either stored in the files left behind (I kept my saved games and settings when I uninstalled) or it's all kept on EA and/or Bioware's servers.

Almost everything took a couple of tries, which was odd, but it worked the second or third time around. That is, the first time I tried to install it failed. I rebooted and tried again and installed without any trouble. After installing all the DLC, it told me the Firewalker pack wasn't installed, but installing it again worked. The first three times I started the game, it failed to login to EA correctly and I had to re-enter my credentials - but each time it worked on the second try... But despite all that, it seems to be running fine now (except that it just crashed on me - but that's because I took Legion with me to Prometheus Station, which I now see is a known issue.)

CD checks are annoying, but it sure is nice to have the option to download the game and run it this way! (It's also nice to finally have access to a proper internet connection after a year of slow, unreliable and occasionally metered connections - it only took about 4.5 hours to download the game!)
