Loyalty question

If a squadmate is already unloyal when their confrontation scene would occur, does it still occur AND if you side with them could you regain their loyalty while losing the others (flip it around)? Or at that point is the confrontation decison serve no practical purpose (i.e. you might as well back the other person or do paragon/renegade)?

It only happens when both are loyal.

Why they wait until that time to have it out at each other is beyond me.

Depending on how you resolve a certain loyalty mission the person in question could still be unloyal afterward. So for one of the confrontation scenes you'd hypothetically have 1 loyal and 1 unloyal after both their missions are
completed.

Just to clarify, you're saying that no confrontation occurs if both loyal missions are complete, but only one is loyal?
