other things I would like to know more about are
publicity says this game will contain one of the biggest and richest worlds bioware has ever created now while bioware makes great games with great storylines its isn't noted for making great worlds the way bethesda (sp?) or rockstar is.
So my question is will this game feature a tuely seamless open world style envoronment similar to games such as oblivion fallout 3 GTA and saints row.2
or will it it be a single world with lots of loading screens like fable 1 and 2.
or will it be more similar to other bioware games such as star wars knights of the old republic, mass effect and jade empire with a series of relatively small environments which one has to fly or "teleport "to. .
the other question concerns the party, will the player actually be able to control party members as one could in the star wars knights of the old republic games or will it be more similar to Jade empire and mass effect were one can order and to some degree define how party members will behave but can't actually switch to and control them as one could in the knights of the old republic games.
other qustions will the game allow players to unequip weapons so that the character can go about weaponless like in star wars knights of the old republic, oblivion and fallout 3 or will they always be stuck carrying and displaying weapons like in mass effect and fable 2.
will the characters have any unarmed combat abilities (non magical) in other words hand to hand combat abilities.
will the game have mini games ( such as card games aechery competitions whatever)
Are there a lot of towns and villages in this game world.
will MC/player characters have a voice as in mass effect or will they be voiceless as they are in most other games that have conversation options.
will the game have recurring side quests like fable 2 has or not as most other games do.
and slightly off topic but since this is a bioware forum will there ever be any follow up games for the knights of the old republic and jade empire?

It's not an open world like Fallout3. There are load screens, but many of the areas are quite large.
or will it be more similar to other bioware games such as star wars knights of the old republic, mass effect and jade empire with a series of relatively small environments which one has to fly or "teleport "to. .
New areas open up and can be travelled to by accessing a 'world map'.

You can control and micromanage all party members. They also have a very conprehensive NPC AI that you can set up to handle behaviors for different situations.
other qustions will the game allow players to unequip weapons so that the character can go about weaponless like in star wars knights of the old republic, oblivion and fallout 3 or will they always be stuck carrying and displaying weapons like in mass effect and fable 2.
Your weapons are always sheated/put away when not in combat. As far as I could see, there's no way to make the weapons not visible though. (They're sheathed/held on your back)
will the characters have any unarmed combat abilities (non magical) in other words hand to hand combat abilities.
Can't recall seeing any specifics, although it's definitely possibel to fight while unarmed.
will the game have mini games ( such as card games aechery competitions whatever)
We didn't run into any, but that doesn't mean they're not there.
Are there a lot of towns and villages in this game world.
How many is 'a lot'?
will MC/player characters have a voice as in mass effect or will they be voiceless as they are in most other games that have conversation options.
All characters are voiced except the PC.
will the game have recurring side quests like fable 2 has or not as most other games do.
I'm not familiar with Fable 2, so don't know what you mean by 'recurring side quests'.
and slightly off topic but since this is a bioware forum will there ever be any follow up games for the knights of the old republic and jade empire?
As far as I'm aware, none are planned, but the devs would have to answer this one.

Since the Warrior and Thief talents all seems to be weapon/shield involved.
While you can punch people (I am guessing) it is probably not a viable tactic. There is no "monk" type characters AFAIK.

oh thats kind of disappointing so is it more like fable or more like mass effect or is it even more restrictive than those games and more level style and storyline based like say Tomb raider or tour of duty is.Ailith430 wrote...
The in game world will not be "open" in the same sense that Oblivion was. You can't walk from one end of the map to the other.

Yes you can play as your party members. Once you have them you could play the intire game in combat as one of them and never even play as the PC. You can also play in the ME and Jade style just telling them what to do.
I do not think you can go bare fist. There are no bare fist skills as far as I know.
The PC is not voiced other than battle crys.

I'm so tired of the term and what people consider it to be.
Oblivion is not Sandbox. It's an open RPG.

Ah you seem to have covered most of the questions there.
re recurring side quests in fable 2 you can constantly do certain sides quests such as bounty hunting or going out to save kidnapped villiagers ect.
Fable 2 has a semi open world in that you can wander around the single world but its not seamless like in Fallout 3 there are constant loading screens each time you tarval between certain areas but you they are still part of a single world rather than seperate world like in mass effect.
re a lot of villages and towns as in more than one or two .

but off topic, you must not have tried very hard to find this information. especially this late in the stage of development. there are so many videos and to get all that info all you had to do was go to youtube.com and look up Dragon Age: Origins. easy and would take like 30 mins

to the poster who was complaing about the use of the term sandbox game what is the difference between a open world game such as GTA and a open world RPG like fallout 3 (world wise )
I originally thought sandbox applied to games like mass effect with large but seperated individual envioronments while open world applied to games with single seamless large world environments

I tried very hard so either the info is not there or I am just very unskilled at searching for this kind of stuff.Oromias wrote...
the game in map seems to be a lot like mass effect but much larger. You can go just about anywhere in that "cell" but there are loading times. as for the recurring quests like fable 2 i personally doubt. in a game like fable 2 those quests are for money and that is pretty much it. but DA:O isnt like that game so it makes it seem unlikley. but there is alwasy the possiblity.

the former is quite possible since I have spent ages trying to find out id any modern fifa games even 08 and 09 have a true 90 minute option and still haven't been able to find the answer dispit using upteen variations in keyword searches on the question..
so I might just be crap at keyword searches. lol.
As for videos this pc is too slow or too adware infected to play most of them besides I doubt most YOUTUBE vids cover this type of stuff most of them most likely cover gameplay and graphics not stuff like how open worlded it is or wether weapons can be unequipped ect
or for instance most of the indo about Aragins ages world on places like Amazon and gamespot just refer to it as rich and large they don't define wether is open worlded like fallout 3 or just a larger variation of the style that bioware usually uses.

I don't know for sure but would say that it was very doubtful especially when you consider how upset Bioware got about the negative reaction some conservative movements had towards them allowing "female on female" relationship choices in mass rffect.DrakeDalton wrote...
If I make a male character, could I romance say Alister or the other male party members?
And female on female homosexuality tends to cause less of a stir than male on male homsexuality does.
its why even shows such as buffy and star trek will dare to feature female on female relationships but male on male still causes a much greater amount of negative reactions especially from American conservative movements so it takes a greater amount of daring for a game or tv show to feature or allow it.
heck even GTA doesn't allow it and Rockstar loves to break the rules and push boundries and upset conservative America and homosexuality is quite a strong feature of GTA games but it still doesn't allow you to make the MC go gay lol.

Ah. No, they're not recurring. Once you do a quest/side quest, it's finished.
Fable 2 has a semi open world in that you can wander around the single world but its not seamless like in Fallout 3 there are constant loading screens each time you tarval between certain areas but you they are still part of a single world rather than seperate world like in mass effect.
It's more like Fallout3 in that respect (if I understand you correctly). It's one big country (Ferelden), and you travel to different areas in that country. To clear it up, let's take an example (fictional - not a spoiler). Let's say you open up the Village of FlapJack and nearby is the town of Pancake. You want to travel from FlapJack to Pancake to get some syrup. YUou'd go through a transition that would take you directly there. You wouldn't travel through some wooded coiuntryside or rolling hills and then end up in Pancake.
re a lot of villages and towns as in more than one or two .
We didn't open up all the map, I don't think (we only completed 22% of the game), but there were several towns/villages/cities on our map when we were finished the competition. (I won't say exactly how many, but more than 5).

Yes - there are same-sex romances for the PC. Can't get much more specific without getting into spoilers. The identities of the same-sex romanceables are known. There's also a brothel in the game, if you're more into that, and I believe the kink goes a bit further there (if less graphic and more tongue-in-cheek).

You can change your gender, facial features, and skin tone. Download the character creator to see what you can do.usainuk wrote...
it appears the game will allow you to choose the gender hair colors of your character not sure about skin color height weight or general body type so will there be any options regarding those things.
No, it will be like the BG series. An area map with various locations you can visit. So my question is will this game feature a tuely seamless open world style envoronment similar to games such as oblivion fallout 3 GTA and saints row.2
or will it it be a single world with lots of loading screens like fable 1 and 2.
Yes. You have complete control of the party member.the other question concerns the party, will the player actually be able to control party members
I believe so, but am not sure.will the game allow players to unequip weapons
Nowill the characters have any unarmed combat abilities (non magical) in other words hand to hand combat abilities.
There is one mini-game with the Dog, but we know nothing about it.will the game have mini games ( such as card games aechery competitions whatever)
Ferelden is something of a backwater nation. The majority of it is still wilderness. Are there a lot of towns and villages in this game world.
Voiceless.will MC/player characters have a voice as in mass effect or will they be voiceless as they are in most other games that have conversation options.
I don’t know. I don’t believe so.will the game have recurring side quests like fable 2 has or not as most other games do.

Yeah Fable 2 works on the basis that there is one world "Albion " and then small towns "Bowerstone" and "oakville" for example so its based on a similar concept to fallout 3 oblivion. GTA ect
But the difference is that while in fallout 3 one could actually walk from say megaton to lamplight in fable 2 as your leaving Bowerstone you will get a screen message saying that you are leaving bowerstone and going somewhere else and it will take you a certain amount of hours to do so and then you get the loading screen and your magically transported halfway across the country.
so techinically it falls somewhere between the two since although its based on a similar wotld concept to fallout 3 you can't actually literally travel the whole world and the road you look at as you leave bowerstone for example isn't actually one you can walk on.
so on a technical level that would seem to make it more similar to say Mass effect in that you get transported to different areas rather than actually being able to walk /ride or drive from one to the other.
Also in pratical reality its world is not that big its nowhere near on scale with even games such as saints row 2 let alone oblivion fallout 3 or GTA its paths are also very linear.
yep reoccuring tasks are fun but not common, I think fable 2 only has it because it is somwwhat open ended in its concept and is very much based on the idea of creating a desire to continue with the game even after the main stories and plotlines are done with.
oh another question. plater characters in Dragons age can actually walk (as in have walk modes and amins) ?
I hope so because I really hate those games like two worlds where the character runs around like a crazy person all the time lol.

Jade Empire had same sex romances, too, back in the days of the original Xbox. But they are much better implemented here, it seems.
