What's the point of playing Sentinel and not using Tech Armor ? It's like playing Engineer and not casting Drone, or playing Vanguard and not charging. It's its signature power.
Sentinel has a pretty sweet array of abilities in addition to Tech Armor. Having Warp and Overload really helps, and it makes Miranda a non-mandatory squaddie, allowing you to really customize your squad more situationally. As a Sentinel, Shepard basically takes Miranda's place in the lineup. Of course if you have Shepard and Miranda, you're pretty unstoppable. My Sentinel did a bang-up job using Miranda, Mordin and Jacob for almost every mission. Garrus, Tali, Kasumi, Zaeed, Jack and Legion weren't really used much, and Thane and Samara (the two heaviest hitters in combat, in my opinion) weren't even recruited.

But you're kinda gimping yourself.
I'm sure you can beat the game on Insanity with any class without using their signature power, but other than to prove that you can, I don't see much point to it.
And I don't believe Miranda is a mandatory. I'm currently making an Infiltrator run (on Insanity) and Miranda is never there (my Shepard is a Sole Survivor). Neither is Jacob. She mostly uses Mordin and Grunt

Ignoring the BS from the first half of the thread, I think tech armor turns the sentinal into kind of a power-based tank, as aposed to the ME1 role of a jack-of-all-trades duelist type. The phalanx and locust made being stuck with side arms not all that bad, and then you get super-survivability plus the 2 most useful defense stripping powers.
Tech Armor did some things that shouldn't have happened. Like making punching husks in the face a good idea. That should never be a good idea. This isn't lord of the rings, you get swarmed by close combat troops, you should die. There might be a couple of ways to break out, but running into a swarm of husks and tech-armor bombing them is silly.
Also the idea of a damage protection power as the signiture power is kind of like lame compared to the other ones. All other signiture powers are either active powers that you use on people (Charge, Singularity, Combat Drone) or personal boosts that cause a truely dramatic shift in the players capability (Adrenaline Rush, Tactical Cloak). Tech Armor just feels dull compared to turning invisible or smashing into a squad in a biotic charge.
Now, Sentiels may not be intented to be a super-flashy, dramatic class, but I feel like tanks are what they are supposed to be even less of.

^This. It doesn't make sense to me not to use the tech armor as a sentinel. It's great. I can just stand out in the open and gun people down. They take down my shield and a pulse damages the enemy. Then I respawn the shield. I NEVER die. I've had a lot of fun on my sentinel run. I have Overload, Warp, and immunity to bullets. Why would you not want that?jwalker wrote...

the sentinel is probably my favorite class because of that armor... sitting in open fire and elbowing husks to death is way better than cover
See that needs to go. Exactly what you just said. Needs not to happen. Husk-punching is silly.

Or you can just use Assault Armor, and let the husks basically kill themselves.

Exactly. This has to change. If I have to explain why running into a crowd of space-zombies is a tactic that shouldn't work I will lose faith in humanity.

It's what Tech Armor is designed to do. Give the player a break.

I have to admit it made me lagh when I did the derelict reaper mission with most of the armor upgrades and my tech armor fully evolved into assault armor and even though I was swarmed and surrounded by husks, my shields wouldn't fail for the shockwave to trigger

I mean, Shepard is still no Kirk,
but why you wouldn't use it leaves me beat.
But hell, its fine if you can get it to work.

^this. I love the Sentinel because it's the only class in which I feel confident enough to rush up to hordes of enemies and pound them to submission with my Captain Falcon punches.

You fit so nice in my plan
To run and to gun
It is so very fun
Then see it explode with a blam.

i use pull more than charge on my vanguard.
i use throw/warp more than sigularity on my adept.
overload / cryoblast on my infiltrator
i havent made a sentinel yet but i hate the look of tech armor so yeah, i'd avoid it too

It's shiny.
It never times out, so you may as well switch it on.
It's shiny.
Besides, it's just ridiculous to use a class without their class power. o.O

What's Tech armor? Is that some armor version in ME1? I just use whatever gives me the best stat bars. Don't put a lot of thought into it really.
That is exactly why Mass Effect 2's item system was superior to the first.
