I recently installed a new motherboard and cpu and could now play at highest graphic settings but I got a problem with shadows. They are square. It is most prominant in the Bone Pit. EA Support won't help because I am running the latest beta version graphic card driver from Nvidia. I have an Intel i5 661 socket 1156 cpu, gtx 470 ddr5, 8gb mushkin ram and an Asus P7P55D-E LX . It did this as well on my previous setup with the 170.61 nvidia driver as well. High settings is fine but not very high settings with everything enabled.

My windows: windows 7 64bit ultimate service pack 1

Ther game does not crash but the shadows are a big problem.

What are the gamers on nVIDIA's own forums saying about the GTX 470 matched to that mainboard?

Hi. Busy trying trying to see. I had the same issue on a socket 775 motherboard so I am wondering if it is not a graphic card driver issue. The only real difference between my old socket socket 775 and this socket 1156 cpu is the motherboard and cpu. The ram, graphic card, power supply, hard drives and sound card are all the same. The case is different with better cooling and a sata dvd drive.

The game runs a lot quicker and more responsive than before. It is not a bad thing if I have to play on high settings to avoid the issue as I am about to complete the game for a third time on high settings so used to it. I would like to know however what is causing that issue.

Edit: I have given up. It seems to be a nvidia driver issue. I changed the game settings back to high and until it gets resolved that where the settings will stay. It is only shadows on very high giving the issue.

Bumping this thread as I seem to be suffering the same problem.

I just installed new hardware, namely an Intel i5 processor and a GeForce GTX 460 graphics card, meaning that I can play DA2 on very high settings.
Problem is, some of the shadows (mainly in Kirkwall) turn square and hop in and out of existence erratically, making the game much uglier than on high settings.

Bit of a disappointment, since I had hoped to make full use of DA2's DirectX 11 features.

There is not much BW can do to fix Nvidia's driver issues. There is a pinned thread at the top of the forum about this issue.

If high anti aliasing and setting the card to prefer quality over performance does not solve it, nothing can be done until NVIDIA fixed it.

Don't know if anyone cares anymore, but I found this issue was mainly caused by my OC'd graphics card. Just backing her down a notch fixed it.
