Personally, I rather prefer the BG system, because it makes adventuring feel like a well integrated part of the economy, like mining. You go into subterrainian areas, free goods up for trade, sell it to merchants, and acquire equipment for your operation. All of this equipment could be browsed beforehand, because merchants were sane and made their goods available to anyone with the gold to use them (for the most part. There was the act 2/ act 5 adventure mart upgrade, but that was fairly well explained, and there was a huge playtime gap between first entering Athkatla, and act 5 begining). Plus, you got some occasional non-vendor-trash loot after significant battles, as a reward to keep for extended periods.
Really, what I enjoy is constistancy, and the ability to make informed purchasing decisions decisions.
Sorry for this post being off topic.

I've been using the Valuable Junk mod with great results. I never have to worry about money anymore (like I did the first playthrough)

just use the cheat. Go to the black emporium. Buy 3 maker's sigh potions. put them into your junk menu. sell 1 to the merchant so that it appears in his junk menu. then hit sell all junk button and then sell the individual item in very rapid succession (make sure you hit sell all junk first). if you do it right you will hear two "sell item" sounds. go back to the "buy" menu and see that the seller's junk menu now has 5 maker's sigh. buy 4 of them and repeat the process until you have a stack of 999. Then, do the same thing but don't leave 1 in the seller's junk menu. this will result in the item not duplicating, but it will sell the stack of 999 twice, resulting in a profit of 107 gold. buy them back, double sell, buy them back, double sell over and over until your happy.
