I posted the following on the EA forums....
I am posting this in reference to the in game promotional deals EA forces upon some new game releases. From a business standpoint these promotions are a win/win for both companies. The game in question gets greater presence, and the tie in product/vendor gets greater exposure, customer flow, what have you.
However, it is usually a lose/lose situation for game/franchise players and fans. As a gamer we are forced to purchase a game at a retailer we may or may not have access to or care to go to (such as that game store turned swap-meat Gamestop), or are asked to drink some beverage (or some such) for actual in game content. It is patently unfair to force a gamer and a fan to shop in, or shop for an establishment/product they would otherwise have no interest in, or would purposely avoid. I imagine this can be even more unfair to customers living in international regions.
Again, the presence and advertising benefits, not to mention possible direct monetary gains are to large to ignore. But to the player and fans of your products it would be fair to at the very least, when concerning actual in game content to make said content available via another source. Be it some kind of collectors edition or reasonably priced DLC. Paying additional for the content is of course not the optimal solution for the end user of the products (or so they will say) but is a reasonable compromise between marketing presence and servicing the fans of your products.
Thank you for your time in reading this request.
