Then I found a rusty sword and the tutorial guided me to the menu. And while I followed the tutorials instructions, I discovered I was stuck on the menu. I could not close it. I was still walking around. I heard stuff happening. And then I realized that the complete and utter darkness that had greeted me at the start of the game was a fluke. I was no longer impressed. And now I have a buggy demo to contend with. Harrumph to that, I say. Harrumph.

I played the demo for a few minutes and was met with an amazing visual of complete darkness. No really, the screen was completely black. At first, I thought this was a completely ballsy move on the part of the developer. I mean, I had this discussion with a friend awhile back about how caverns and dungeons in games are never truly dark: ancient crypts undisturbed across the ages in Skyrim have perfectly working sconces for whatever reason. And I was thinking "hey, what if this game starts off where you are literally fumbling in the dark and your first move is to, you know, find a torch?"

Yeah i had that its got something to do with ATI graphics cards or something. To fix it you just need to turn off post-processing within the options in the demo.

Good to know. Hopefully that does't hurt the visual style of the game much. Unless post-process is just depth of field + motion blur or something.

I'm buying it on release, hah.
Same here. I had a lot of fun with the demo. I already consider Amalur one of my favorite games of 2012.
Quick synopsis/thoughts ---->
I loved:
1. I can tell the world is huge just based off the demo. I got easily sidetracked and cleared a few dungeons. Didn't have enough time to get really indepth with the questing (45 minutes is not enough!). I easily expect 100+ hours of gameplay on a single character.
2. Lots of exploration and plenty of loot to find! (A must I think for an RPG like Amalur).
3. Very engaging combat and responsive with a keyboard/mouse. Glad to see QTE prompts (only noticed a few) are kept to a bare minimum (much better than what you experience in The Witcher 2 or God of War).
4. Crafting seems pretty deep.
5. Lots of room to build different types of characters and mix skills.
6. Art style (Deal with it).
7. Plenty of dialogue (just based on the demo). Persuasion attempt was present a few times. I failed all but one. I don't think it's necessary to show the percentage of success though.
8. The ability to go on a rampage and kill friendly animals, NPCs and quest givers. Not sure how this will
affect the game, lol.
9. The silent kill animations are very good and satisfying (played as a rogue in the demo). Don't think I'll ever get bored with them.
My biggest concerns/issues:
1. Psychic NPCs and guards? - I killed a guard in a basement and the entire town flagged hostile. Nobody saw me commit the crime!
2. Camera - no zoom? Not so great when talking to characters. Sometimes it jumped to different angles and my character was cut out by an object or another NPC in the scene.
3. Menus are a tad cumbersome, equipping items takes too many steps, and not always responsive to my mouse clicks. Too much navigation in general. More weapon swaps would be nice.
4. Lacking shortcut keys for simple tasks like looting all items, checking the quest log, or leveling up a character/picking skills (I couldn't find one at least).
5. Dialogue wheel is not necessary since our character is silent.
6. No jumping? - can't imagine why they chose not to include considering the world design. I can't simply jump into water and take off swimming. I have to walk into the water on a level surface. A few times the screen would prompt press F and let me jump down a specific ledge.
7. Blank stare on our character's face during dialogue. Looks depressed and a little drunk, lol. At the very least emotes like Fable's would be nice when interacting with NPCs.
8. Character creation is lacking. More options would be nice. I was aesthetically pleased with how my character looked though.
9. Yeah, graphics aren't everything but the textures could be better. A high resolution texture pack would help. Hopefully modders will be able to provide one at the very least.
Tentative issues with the demo that could be due to being an early build:
1. Very limited graphic options (PC Version) - generic low, medium, high settings which tell me nothing. I'm assuming the final build will have more advanced, detailed tweaking. About the only thing I could do was change the resolution or turn off anti-aliasing.
2. Load times (longer than Skyim's when entering buildings).
3. Facial animations and dialogue tended to be out of sync. A few times an NPC's mouth didn't move.
Didn't run into any game breaking issues during the demo on the PC. I'll have to play through again with FRAPS running (forgot to turn it on) to see hard data. The framerate seemed to be consistent and didn't notice any major drops/lag.
Trivial:
1. No toggle for running/walking. Yes, sometimes I like to walk.

im not quite sure but graphics were pretty good without it plus they cant even be set too high as a demo so im sure graphics will be much better during the full game.

Now I've got to decide whether to wait a week or just download it on PC or PS3. I think I can wait, I want the bonuses on 360 as I'll be getting both KoA and ME3 on that console.

Unfortunately, the camera sensitivity is way too high. I fixed it, but I still can't play the demo because now I have to recover from the motion sickness the game gave me.
But LPPrince seems to want to cling to any praise anyone can possibly give the game, so I'll throw him a bone: I like the ability to smash crates for coins with wanton abandon. I don't play many games (because I don't enjoy--Bastion is an exception) that allow me to do such wreckless damage.

I thought that would take forever.
Apparently not, cause there's crates everywhere, and they are in sets of like 15 for christ's sake.

Aside from the problems listed by ErichHartmaan above, my only concern is if this game becomes another DLC dumpster for EA just like Dragon Age 2 was, which I really hope not.
Well then, back to Dark Souls.

I haven't been following this game or ME3 news much at all but I heard you get some kind of ME3 reward for playing this. So I download the demo, play through its entirety, and then I get rewarded with some kind of goody in March??
For playing the KoA demo, you get a few items for the KoA full game, the Reckoner Knight Armor for ME3(for starting the demo) and The Chakram Launcher assault rifle for completing the demo.

Just finished the demo now, to be honest I thought it was...good, nothing ground breaking amazing quality but it was still fun to play. I actually like the art style and combat of the game, reminds me of what Fable 3 really should have been. Still not totally convinced to buy the game yet though.

As do I, the game sure is big enough for it. But I want to see meaningful DLC, not a constant spam of single dlc items that will make anything in the main game useless, you know, DA2 style. I can probably get through the entire prologue of DA2 before the little codex screen at the bottom goes away with all the DLC shoved in it (and I still barely have any).

The Demo is okay but the damned thing froze on me in mid battle. If the demo is gonna freeze what does that say about the completed version?
Don't worry LPPrince will be along in a minute to confirm the freezing is a good thing.
I'd some issues with the camera getting stuck in the ground, sound cutting out and dialogue randomly ending. Seems an odd decision to release a version so buggy as a demo.
