For a long time now its been billed as an Elder Scrolls game with God of War style combat. There have been speculation as to how it would compare to Skyrim.LPPrince wrote...

Supposed to rival Skyrim, really? According to whom?
Yeah, NO ONE said that. Don't know where Morroian got that from.
As for it being a new IP the background and experience of its creators is enough that that disclaimer isn't relevant.
And yes Skyrim is that good.
Another thing the action animation of swinging a sword is a lot like how characters swing swords in DA2.

I'm sorry, are you saying you were basing your expectations of a game based on what marketing told you?Morroian wrote...

BWUAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.
Sorry, that was condescending and uncalled for. I apologize.
But apparently, not enough to stop me from posting this anyways.

No, I've been following development on its own forum and others for quite a while now. Plus its based on its developers.Pacifien wrote...

Another criticism of the game. Using a shield was awkward, blocking then striking quickly with a sword was not easy, and the shield vanishes when its not being used to block which I personally found immersion breaking.

Oh, sweetie, you say that as if a developer never showed you their awesome button before. Tsk.Morroian wrote...

I hate it when I switch weapons and the weapon I was previously using mysteriously disappears entirely as if I was never carrying it. Breaks immersion.Morroian wrote...

It goes into inventory, invisible inventory is something you have to suspend disbelief over in most games. Having a shield not showing while equipped is something else entirely. Is it a personal reaction, sure, anything immersion breaking is.

The graphics (not the glitches, there were a few for me but I can overlook them) really make the game look kind of generic - to me it seems like it's a game that wanted to be an MMO but didn't quite make it but kept this cartoony, exhausted WoW art style. The voice-acting was pretty good but it's too bad the main character has no voice actor.
The gameplay was fair, not amazing but enough for me to enjoy it - I especially liked the animations for the different weapons and reckoning attacks. The inventory is a little cumbersome and they definitely could have managed the destiny menu much better than a bunch of drop down lists. The class system doesn't seem revolutionary, unless I'm missing something, but it's nice to vary the game with it.
It's not a bad game, but doesn't seem like it's worth the full price currently.

Let's just say I am highly amused at your disappointment that the demo demonstrated to you that KoA was not Skyrim by way of God of War as was promised. It's not that KoA is a game that simply could not be to your liking. No, it has to be a poorly done game otherwise it would be to your liking.Morroian wrote...

So let me guess you have to stand in a certain spot and press the action button (F on PC). That doesn't make it much better it just makes it unnecessarily awkward but then this goes for much of the control scheme, on PC at least.LPPrince wrote...
Surprise surprise, in KoA you can swim in those ponds and pools you think you can't explore.
Also, it has dive spots ala Fable, where items are hidden underneath.

I went through various issues that I consider poorly implemented that are not just a matter of personal preference, the fact that its not as open as Skyrim would not be a factor if those elements were implemented well. Plus I don't dislike the game I'm just disappointed its not as good as it could have been. I still intend to buy it.Pacifien wrote...

Almain(Human)- Noble and honorable
Varani(Human)- Shrewd traders and wanderers
Ljosalfar(Elf)- Just and elegant Light Elves
Dokkalfar(Elf)- Diplomatic and manipulative Dark Elves
Griffon up there is a Dark Elf.

Dwarves in this game don't exist(I think?).
They've been replaced with gnomes.

Ah I see. Well I'm def going with Dokkalfar as my first character.
The names of the races almost sound Scandinavian

Very cool! I wish you could import your custom to the full game
You don't have to. The CC is simplistic enough that you should be able to remember where the sliders are.
At least, I know I can do that. Griffin will be recreated perfectly.

Combat looks good so far but will need to play more advanced levels before knowing how good it is. I think i fought most of what was available in the game as it would not let me go in to other areas until the full game was installed.
I was not happy with some of the NPC voices, they were very similar so i hope there is more variation in the game.
The graphics are good but not so different from other past console games. Lets admit the truth, this is a console game made for consoles in mind.
The story i am not sure about as it did not captivate me and i was more interested in side missions but will get the game and hope for the best.
