What? I have to sign up just to download the House of Valar faction and quests? This guild was announced months back last year when the game was still being developed and it's obviously on the disc. This is even more annoying than what EA did with DA1, DA2 and ME2 with the small bonuses that you needed to sign up to download. God forbid that you purchase a second hand copy and you'll never experience what should already be on disc.

Overreacting you say? We get plenty of content anyways? Well when plenty of other big RPG's release all content on disc and don't release it on day one alongside the game, I don't see myself as overreacting. I suppose it's not THAT much of a big deal but if Dark Souls, The Witcher 2, Two Worlds 2, War in The North and Divinity 2 can be released without DLC being held back, then why can't this be the same for Amalur? The official site listed the House of Valar as a faction for months and now it's revealed that you can only access them with the bonus code?

Yes, I am jelly EA. You're trolling me. I've nothing against BHG or 38 studios but this seriously makes me consider if this Amalur is worth a purchase anyway seeing as a lot of content is being withheld. This isn't the first thing that the developers have been subtle with either. They said that the game's long loading time was originally due to the game being a beta build but the latest news has spoken against that. They say the game's bugs aren't as major as they were in the demo version but where have we heard that before? With Dragon's Dogma coming out two months later, I might as well get that and then wait for the inevitable Amalur Destiny Edition which includes all DLC and expansions that releases next year.

What gets me is that the developers were boasting that they were gamers making games for gamers but this doesn't seem like such a studio. Larian Studios is a developer who are gamers making games for gamers. This on the otherhand just smells of greed all over.

I found this article on Penny Arcade, and I have to say I agree with the assessment.

ES fans will not approve of that article, but I feel the same way.

I played the demo and I absolutely loved it. I think the gameplay in Reckoning is what Dragon Age 2 should have been. Not to mention, being a dual-wielding sorcerer kicks ass!

Too bias.  I say this as a person who enjoys many different types of RPGs.  I wouldn't want them all to have Amalur's combat system.

New preview at gametrailers.com put up just recently... was surprisingly informative.

ES fans will not approve of that article,

Don't see why not, he makes it clear its a personal preference. My personal preference is for the opposite based on the Amalur demo, to get the deep combat system it looks like they've had to sacrifice in other areas, areas that would lend the game more weight and depth if given the attention they need.

LIke what?  And how would you change them to better suit your tastes?

I really want to know, I don't mean it in any negative or mean way.  It's just, I bet some of them don't have a clear picture on just by playing a demo.

Looks good.

The only thing i am worried about is the plot, hope it's good.

The combat is good but i find it a little easy in the demo so will see when i play the game. Overall i think the game will be interesting.

Well if the bugs are gone why not try, i buy nearly every RPG that comes out why not add this to the list, looks fun IMO and that's why i play and i don't need a revolution either.

Better dialogue, more of a living world feel, better quest plotting, just based on the demo alone. I acknowledge that the demo is not necessarily representative of the game but it does give me pause and the attitude of the devs on the KOA forum of anyone who criticises the demo has not been great.

Thats how I felt last year. Now I'm releaved. Not as much on my gamer plate.

This year I can think of KoA, SSX, ME3, Tomb Raider's reboot, Borderlands 2, and that's about it.

Last year was nothing but a series of disappointments. Hopefully this year will be better...with ME3 coming and if KOA is worth playing. The only game from last year that met expectations was Shogun 2 which i'm still playing, because nothing else decent has come out.

Um.. I don't consider myself an ES fan. I haven't played Arena, didn't really like Daggerfall, liked Morrowind, but still didn't even finish it (got too distracted for that) and absolutely hated Oblivion. Now Skyrim I love. but I wouldn't say that makes me an ES fan.

And I disagree with that article. Like about the comat - the author criticizes Skyrim's combat - while i like it a lot. I actually feel that it's one of the better real-time action-rpg systems so far.
I certainly wouldn't call it miserable. So I'd say, like others have said before,  it's strongly biased.

It was an opinion piece.

There's nothing really informative in the OP, and I'm not sure where I'd go to find this info (already looked at Wikipedia). Does anyone know how long the game will be? For me DA:O to do absolutely everything was about 70-75 hours. Will this game be as long, or shorter?

They say that even if you know where everything is and try to do every single quest as fast as you can, you'll still struggle to finish in under 200 hours. The story is supposed to be around 60 hours.

I'll remain skeptical of that, Lots of people say DA:O story takes between 40-60 hours and I beat it in around 10 on nightmare.

Likely because you did nothing but the main story, while that 40-60 represents doing a lot of things.

Hell, ME2 is a 30-40 hour game, yet my last playthrough took 100 hours to finish doing absolutely everything.

Everyone takes different amounts of time to do things.

I suddenly realised that merely playing the Reckoning demo has negatively impacted my playtime with Skyrim (helps that my current Nightblade is into Level 60 so further development is limited ... but I'm still sniping / backstabbing / fireballing draugr deathlords and dragon priests with glee an hour ago)

*sigh* With ME3 coming out as well I guess there goes my gaming budget for the first half of this year (Diablo 3 can be postponed indefinitely far as I am concerned). Gonna draft a pre-order email to my favoured local game store shortly.

My first char will definitely be a rogue/wizard.

Are you sure about this? i will be happy if the plot is about 25 hours without side quests.
