What? I have to sign up just to download the House of Valar faction and quests? This guild was announced months back last year when the game was still being developed and it's obviously on the disc. This is even more annoying than what EA did with DA1, DA2 and ME2 with the small bonuses that you needed to sign up to download. God forbid that you purchase a second hand copy and you'll never experience what should already be on disc.

Overreacting you say? We get plenty of content anyways? Well when plenty of other big RPG's release all content on disc and don't release it on day one alongside the game, I don't see myself as overreacting. I suppose it's not THAT much of a big deal but if Dark Souls, The Witcher 2, Two Worlds 2, War in The North and Divinity 2 can be released without DLC being held back, then why can't this be the same for Amalur? The official site listed the House of Valar as a faction for months and now it's revealed that you can only access them with the bonus code?

Yes, I am jelly EA. You're trolling me. I've nothing against BHG or 38 studios but this seriously makes me consider if this Amalur is worth a purchase anyway seeing as a lot of content is being withheld. This isn't the first thing that the developers have been subtle with either. They said that the game's long loading time was originally due to the game being a beta build but the latest news has spoken against that. They say the game's bugs aren't as major as they were in the demo version but where have we heard that before? With Dragon's Dogma coming out two months later, I might as well get that and then wait for the inevitable Amalur Destiny Edition which includes all DLC and expansions that releases next year.

What gets me is that the developers were boasting that they were gamers making games for gamers but this doesn't seem like such a studio. Larian Studios is a developer who are gamers making games for gamers. This on the otherhand just smells of greed all over.

You are incorrect sir, the House of Valor was never officially announced until now. You are thinking of the House of Ballads or House of Sorrows which are located on the site. The content is not located on the disc and will need to be downloaded and it's 7 quests out of the 300+ the entire game has.

When it comes to loading times I didn't experience anything too bad in the third party three month old demo code so I'm pretty confident the final edition will be the same if not better. Also the editors doing the reviews for IGN and Game Informer have both said they haven't experienced the bugs located in the demo within their review editions.

Lastly if you don't believe 38 Studios is a developer who are gamers making games for gamers, you need to remember how they got an EA published game onto Steam. How many posts the devs and the Chairman make weekly on the official forums. How after the demo even though it was an old build the devs have taken feedback from it and are already working on new options for players such as the camera. How a man has spent over $30 million of his own money to support a 400+ employee company to make video games they would want to play. I doubt you'll find many companies similar to them.

Honestly though, every time I think of Curt Schilling, I get a bad feeling about the game.

When he's not brought up, I think good things.

Have you seen this video? Specifically when Curt speaks.

I should clarify that it just feels weird because I can't shake the fact that I know him through baseball and not gaming.

I just watched the PAX East video that was linked to.

They mention Joe Quadara, Lead Combat Designer, and how he's a tournament level Tekken player.  That actually explains a lot about the combat.

The story is supposed to be around 60 hours.

Are you sure about this? i will be happy if the plot is about 25 hours without side quests.

No, I'm not sure, that's why I said "supposed to be".

But the struggling to do every single side quest as fast as you can under 200 hours came from a live Q&A they did.  It was with Joseph Quadara and Ken Rolston.  One of their questions was about length and they said that they had their experts on the game do a speed run of every single quest in the game and they struggled to do it in under 200 hours.

You can watch it for yourself: http://www.ea.com/1/...oning-live-chat

I don't care how long it is, really. I probably won't finish it for a long time what with having to continue Skyrim, the ME3 demo, SSX, and ME3 itself.

I've washed my hands of Skyrim. Yesterday I set out to and finished the rest of the story. Combat is just too repetitive.

At least in Reckoning you can roll to get out of the way of attacks, you got attack strings where you pause before hitting the button again, a number of special abilities... And you got actual classes.

I probably won't finish it for a while either. When ME3 comes out I'll be playing that until I finish it. Then when Dragon's Dogma is out I'll be playing that for as long as I have access to my PS3.

KoA is a transitional game for me. Gives me something to do while I wait for other games.

Likely because you did nothing but the main story, while that 40-60 represents doing a lot of things.

Hell, ME2 is a 30-40 hour game, yet my last playthrough took 100 hours to finish doing absolutely everything.

Everyone takes different amounts of time to do things.

Actually I did all the side quests but that only took me up another 5 hours at the most, usually because I do them in bulk in the areas. ME2 took me around 30 hours with all dlc and side missions done, that could just be me though.

At first, I thought this would fill some free time I have between now and Mass Effect 3, but after playing the demo, I'm think it could* be one of the better games of the year. I'm very excited about 2012.

What impressed me the most was the art-work (/animation).

This kind of shiny-colorful thing usually does not impress me, and leaves me not wanting to buy a game, but it seems the guy behind Spawn really knows how to make everything look detailed and compelling.

At first I dissed the game as not being my thing, now I want to preorder it...

Had to google it... and a shame it isn't on more platforms.

I like the description on Gamespot: "As Kameo, you must capture, harness, and unleash a
host of monsters to rescue three elemental ancestors and destroy the
Dark Troll King."

I've yet to experience a world-changing objective with such apparent importance to it!

Is Gamestop reliable?
Will it be limited to just one download, if purchased as a digital copy?

It is. But Steam is offering some Team Fortress helmets, while Gamestop has quite neat pre-purchase DLC... Also, and more importantly, Steam prices are very unfair regarding the euro/usd rate, and I really don't want to buy anything from them before they fix that.

I guess I could get some value out of the TF things by trading them, but I really don't know if these particular items will be of any use (nor am I interested myself).

I went with Gamestop, you should too. It's unclear with steam whether or not you get the weapons so to be safe Gamestop is your best bet.

Wow that was actually fun.
Combat was fast, but not too fast.
The enemies were colorful and there was really the feeling of just dipping your toe into the water.

I honestly had a ton of fun and really want to play it some more when I buy it eventually.
My only real complaint was that at times buttons did not seem to work and got me killed.

Still that was a very...unique way to start a game to say the least.
Its kind of like what made Fable great without you know all the stuff that made it god awful.

I guess it did what a demo should then get you enticed into buying the game.
