Steve Danuser former Creative Director posted on his personal blog nothing new more of a personal read. Kind of a terrible read.

That is so sad. How heartbreaking to pour everything you have into something only to have it fail. And it was a well-made game! That really sucks.

Damn. I'm glad he was able to put that down and get some ease from it, at least.

Sad read. I feel bad for him and the other devs.

I thought the game was okay nothing to write home about, but not bad considering it was their first game. However they really shouldn't of tried to release this game between TES:Skyrim and Mass Effect 3 -- the two current RPG giants. They were just asking for less than expected sales with that release date.

Well, with regard to the poor choice of release date, my guess is they were more interested in getting some returns to keep the company going. IMO, one million in sales figure is quite good for KoA:R, but to ask for more is unrealistic.

Am I wrong or was most of the $75 millon spent on the never-to-be-released MMO? If so, what a disgusting waste of resources.

It probably wouldn't of been very successful regardless.

Yeah.

That blog was just depressing to read.

And all because they spend lot of money on MMO that will never happen and if it did happen, wouldn't be much of a success?

I love this game! I've replayed twice, the second time with their DLCs (both of them). It's a fun *complete* game with proper length dlc. Been awhile since I've seen that...

Feel so bad for the people from 38 Studios though. Terrible thing to happen to them. I hope they all find jobs, preferably at CDPR or something.

^They're already being hired by both Epic Games and Bioware.

Plus, getting a job from USA to Poland ain't easy.

Epic Games I can live with. Just would hate to see anyone's talent be ruined by "artistic integrity".

Bioware as well really? That's kind of surprising to me for some reason.

So...worth picking this game up? Sell it to me. Is the story good? Is the game a RPG you would play for dialogue and story or is it good for action and loot only?

I'm playing it right now, and it's okay (6/10, I'm a tough grader though c.f. Skyrim 7/10, Witcher 2 9/10, ME3 7/10, DA2 4/10, DA:O 8/10).  The gameplay is definitely stronger than the story which is mediocre at best.  It's a Sandbox style RPG, if you compare it to Skyrim, it's going to fall short in the graphics and sound department.  The game has a fairly dark tone, but the bright colours and cartoonish graphics don't help the mood.  The human sized enemies look okay, but some of there is some pretty bad texturing work done on some of the monsters (the trolls and some of the small enemies look horrible).  The sound is passable, the music is nice but the the voice acting is bland. It's a pretty big world, not as big as Skyrim but there is plenty to keep you occupied.  The story is better than Skyrim and some of the faction quests are interesting, but none of the stories are BioWare level.

The gameplay is much more fun than Skyrim, which granted isn't saying much.  While it was hard at the beginning, it is getting pretty easy now.  With the parry system they established (you have to block in the middle of your enemy's attack) they needed to have block interrupt your own attacks, which it doesn't do, instead it gets queued to occur when your attack ends.  Dodge also should have acted as an interrupt.  Apart from those complaints the gameplay is pretty smooth and fast; it is definitely a twich game as opposed to a tactics game.

As you level up you gain mana and health points as well as points for skills and points to spend on unlocking new abilities.  The skills are kept separate from the combat gameplay (other than the stealth skill), and affect crafting, talking to people, the stuff shown on the map and the minigames for unlocking and dispelling chests.  The abilities are divided into a Warrior, Rogue and Mage paths.  You are free to mix abilities from different paths, and you can pay gold to NPCs to respec your character at any time.  There is some synergy between the Warrior and Rogue paths, although the Mage path doesn't seem to have much synergy with the other two.  The stuff you can craft is stronger than the stuff you find, but it's not as bad as Skyrim in that regard.

I'd say if you can get it on a Steam sale for 1/3 of its regular price or less, it's worth picking up.  However this one definitely is not worth the full price.

I can pick it up for £15 from amazon.uk so I probably might do so later on. Good to know that the story isn't terrible at least but I won't expect much from it.

Yeah I've been waiting for a good Steam sale on it to grab it. But hasn't happened yet. The one time it did go on sale it was a very minor discount. I'd consider paying $30 for it but not $60.

I just read that article. It's so depressing. I can't imagine how it must feel to pour so much into your creation and then just have it die on you. Especially when other things of worse quality can succeed.

While fun and with some interesting angles in the story, I don't think that's its main feature. I think the art/world/exploration/combat are more appealing about this particular game, much like how I feel about Skyrim/Oblivion.

KoA? Well, the demo was alright. Honestly, it just felt really similar to Fable and Dragon Age. Nothing new about it in my opinion.

Now Dragon's Dogma... I want it soooooo bad!

With regard to blocking/dodging in the middle of your attacks, IMO that serves to help distingish the weapon classes.

Light and fast weapons (daggers/faeblades) recover quickly but do low individual damage, Slow, hard-hitting weapons are powerful (my low-level greatsword fighter was bashing ettins off balance for a change) but one has to be wary in committing to attacks lest they get interrupted mid-swing.

Okay, so I started playing the game again.

Level 22. Still a Warlock. 3 levels away from being able to become a Spellcloak.

Miles away from becoming a Shadowcaster.

Just saved Mel Senshir.

Yes, but it imbalances the combat and makes the fast weapons the best weapons in the game because: they get interrupted less often, they benefit more from the %hit effects, they get more DPS from the bonus damage from crafted weapons (since a flawless flaming hilt adds the same amount of damage to a dagger as it does to a greatsword) and they have charge attacks that let them cover ground more quickly than the slower weapons.  Heck, if it weren't for Relentless Assault  I don't think a Greatsword or Hammer wielding character could take down a group of sprites or archers. I respeced my longsword/archer (Blademaster) to a dagger/chakram (Universalist) and my kill rate trippled (daggers crafted for max flame damage+smolder+battle frenzy=mass carnage).
