Couldn't a dwarf say they believe in the Maker in Ostagar?
Which wouldn't be realistic, as they've been on the surface for a few days.

Really, something as complex and deep as belief can't be handle in one or two convos with random NPCs no one cares about.

In TW1 for example, the theme of Geralt believing in "Destiny" or not (or something in between) was explored throughout the entre game from Act 1 till the end, with important characters like King of the Wild Hunt, Lady of the Lake, Triss and Alvin (and some others IIRC).

That's how you handle belief.

Why not KoP? You say that as though the DN had no knowledge of the surface at all. They could've easily found themselves far more interested in human religion than their own. There's always outcasts. Burkel himself is an example .

Though I wouldn't be averse to a running theme of how much Hawke/the PC believes in the maker/how they felt about Andraste in the game.

I think at this point we need to modify Godwin's law to include 'mentions of The Witcher'.

Yeah, but Geralt was a fixed character, with an established personality from Andrzej Sapkowski's novels. I don't think David Gaider could have so many different beliefs for six entirely different characters.

3 of the 6 Origins are generally Andrastrian or of Andrastrian upbringing. 2 are of Dwarven upbringing and one of Dalish.

I don't think it was impossible to integrate belief a little bit more, with companions for instance asking us (and something more than "What do you believe in? Oh I see" /end convo). Not on the same scale as The Witcher 1 of course for the reasons you listed.

I don't recall if that was the case, but the Ashes quest could have the PC express his / her beliefs more.

I would like it for instance if Morrigan asked a dwarf more about the Paragon belief system, and how she feels it resembles atheism. Or how a possible female Qunari companion(a tamassran)can preach about the Qun and Qunari breeding ploicies and such for us. Both Origins and DA2 handled religious beliefs for the PC in a shallow manner, IMO.

I could see a Dwarf casteless believing in the Maker. But I'd have a hard time believing a DN would so quickly convert. At least, it wouldn't be conveyed in a realistic way and would require a lot of RPing to fill the gaps.

Which is not a bad thing really.

Meh, I can live without it. Either invest infnite resources for infinite options or invest zero resources for zero options and let the player you know, RP. You don't need to be prompted by an NPC for your character to believe in something. It might be nice for the game to recognise your beliefs but which would you rather have? A or B or A through Z? Hint: infinite resources don't exist.

It rarely is.

Hawke could've benefitted from a bit more customization. Sure we can say "well if the Maker exists." would've been nicer to say flat out "I don't believe in the Maker." like you could in origins. Then maybe be branded a heretic and give Peatrice even more of a reason to hate Hawke.

Something I wouldn't say then :wub::P

But yea well, it's not that big of a deal.

What Origins should have had however as a theme is how the PC views being a Warden. You kind of had that with Wynne for example, but the Warden had to be an idiot / child when talking to her. I ended up RPing that my Warden was just subtly mocking her as he is pretending to care about her so called wisdom.

Man, I wish I had been able to tell Peatrice "Actually, I kind of agree with the Qun..". That would have been suh-weet.

Yeah, remember how everyone in Kirkwall is an idiot? No?

My Hawke was an athiest. The Andrastian battle cries only come up with diplomatic!Hawke, as far as I know. Playing a snarky mage, this wasn't an issue. And even then, I'm sure you could justify it as Hawke using common terminology the way many RL athiests and agnostics still use the word "God" to express disbelief or heightened emotions. I don't remember any point in the game where Hawke unequivocably expressed his faith.

Hawke: "Hey Cullen! FU, and Andraste and F the Maker!!"
Cullen: "What you are doing right now is insulting me and Chantry dogma, declaring yourself as a heretic. I'll take note of that"
Hawke: "Sorry to have bothered you"
Cullen: "Never a problem champion".

And then they say the Templars are against the freedom of speech.

Well yes. But I wouldn't say it because I actually believe it. I'd only do it to see her face.

But I only use religious statements to endear or annoy. Never to spread my beliefs. Image IPB

This. I'm a staunch atheist, but I often end up saying stuff like "Jesus Christ" simply because I grew up in a society where nearly everyone says it. It's simple, really.

I won't lie, I really wanted an option to side with the Qunari and potentially convert to the Qun. But I also would have said such a line just to get under that woman's skin. As such statements should be made, nobody likes an overly preachy person who just wants to talk about their belief system all day.

If anything, the Templars don't employ disciplinary actions enough. Either that, or they were dropped on their heads as children.

But that's pretty much exactly what "if he ever existed" plus scathing delivery connotates. I dunno what exactly specific wording would help

Wouldn't it be nice if there could be one thread on this board where you don't feel compelled to remind us about your undying love for DA2.

Just one thread.

 You and Peatrice. Ick just...ick.

Would've beena nice touch though.

Ugh Wynne...Morrigan had it too. I couldn't disagree with her reasonably. It mostly degenerated to me calling her a b****. (that or her not talking to me period because of dissapproval). Bleh. Thank you rivalry system. :wizard:  If there was one good thing that came out of DA2 it was that.

I could get religious and ask you to point to where hell is talk about in the Bible but.. nah. That would require some thinking. And effort. And we're already off-topic enough because you just have to make a comment on everything don't you.
