This month's challenge is "Poor Folk Stuff".  This theme could include makeshift shacks or slum buildings, beggars, dirty-looking little kids with trinkets to sell, piles of refuse/garbage (great place for some rats to live), litter, new sounds, patched clothing, worn-looking weapons, hanging laundry lines, pretty much anything for rural and/or urban poor life which doesn't look all shiny and new lick much of the current NWN content.

This theme was suggested by The Amethyst Dragon.

Once again, the possibilities for content types are pretty much endless.

Rules:
-         It must be fully working in game.
-         Use of vanilla NWN or publicly available texture is fine, though state-of-the-art amateur's work would require 100% original work, but that's up to you.
-         Teamwork is welcome.
-         Beginners most welcome, don't be afraid, just try, you'll be surprised!

All submissions must be finished, working, and emailed to me (NWNCCCMakers @ gmail.com – minus the spaces obviously) or a link provided by July 5, 2011 (which is a Tuesday) at 8 AM EST.  Sooner than that is perfectly fine too.  Note a few extra days this month are already built in. So don’t expect the usual grace period. ;)

*** Please do NOT post your content separately on the Vault.***

Some things you could include in the download/email that would make packaging everything up easier and faster (otherwise I will just pester you with questions!):
- 2da lines needed
- Screenshot for use on the vault page (this also gives me hints on how to display the new goodie)
- Portraits (if needed) of your new goodie
- Any credits you would like listed
- If this is your first entry, please tell me what name you would like your work listed under and provide a link to your other NWN content if you want that displayed as well (the link bit is totally optional).

Remember, the Challenge is all about fun, sharing, creativity and surprise!

If you have concerns/questions about this month’s Challenge please post in this thread.

If you want to discuss the Monthly Custom Content Challenge idea as a whole or wish to submit ideas/themes for future monthly Challenges,   please post in its thread here.  ***When submitting a new theme, please provide a title and short summary of the theme.***

If you have a technical question about some custom content creation, please create a separate thread so that the answers can be found later by anyone, not just people interested in this Challenge. We'll try to help!

Have no fear and join the fun!

And finally, you can vote for July’s theme here.  The voting deadline is undetermined as of yet. I’ll be out of town on vacation. Can someone cover the poll and posting of the new theme?

** Updated to include poll link. **

You aren't the only one!  I went to bed with gnomish zeppelins dancing through my head... Still, I guess there's nothing stopping me from doing a gnomish pauper zeppelin if I feel that strongly about it, heh heh.

I voted for asian mythology monsters this time.  For July I voted for airships. :)

I guess there are too many appealing options to stick to just one and the constant theme-hopping results in this unpredictability even regarding the most popular options, which is both a good and a bad thing ...

This is the right theme for me. I'll have to make a placeable, because all my placeables look really poor (especially that swan tub).

I got the perfect thing in mind for this theme - it'll fit for my module too no doubt...

Some suggestions would be much appreciated, otherwise I'll end up doing a few City Exterior tiles (sewer lids, dirty cobble, etc).

Some suggestions...

Debris/garbage/nastiness for along the "curbs" in the regular city tileset (placeables would work well, as you could just skip adding a .pwk so that they don't interfere with movement).  Also for along the sides of buildings.  Not every area of a city is going to be kept clean all the time.

Scripts for NPCs reacting differently if PCs are wearing "peasant clothes" or smell like they've been in the slums (or worse, sewers)...could run off a variable added by a trigger script.

Prefab NPCs that will try to pickpocket passing adventurers, or will try to sell them cheap trinkets/trash (with a tiny chance that the NPC has something actually valuable or rare).

Inventory icons for various heavily used or poorly made items a PC might find when in the poor section of a city or some remote village that doesn't normally see an influx of "adventurer's money".

I would realy love to have some "new" rags , the standard ones are realy outdated..and do poor people wear always those short things like Bioware give them ? If its cold outside one tend do put a pair of these and a pair of those all together/ on top of each other, main point on this: you don't have to feel cold, isn't it? Love the tattered cloak Amethyst Dragon made once in his cloak pack, and this looks exactly like it should, worn like ages. Wish there could be more like this...:)

Skinny animals...not PHoD animals of undeath...but skinny animals with ribs would be nice.

Turnips and potatos...

I can make those...you guys want stuff like that as well?

Just a note, the tattered cloak was made by Lisa (link), I made the patched one(link). :)

Edited to add links.

Oops..sorry AD ;) my fault..but these cloaks are a good example what kind of stuff im talking about. Stitched together, broken in pieces..and stitched one more time together..grabbing what ever kind of material and color found, giving the clothes a very strange and less attractive look.

Does anyone know if that can be done with armor? Like leather armor or hide of differing colors?

Or even as a robe type armor you can choose would be cool.

Unfortunately you can't set up armour to have transparent areas, for tattered cloth or the like. Well, technically, you can, but it takes reworking a chunk of the whole system and removing shinyness completely. Cloaks are unique in that the cloakmodel.2da has a column that determines whether they are reflective or transparent, whilst everything else uses the settings specified by the player/NPC's 2da entry.

But patchwork clothing could easily be done.

*Beats AD around the head with the idea*

Stuff like that would be really helpful for all of us non-scripters out there.

Likewise!  I have a sneaky suspicion that some PW got together and voted.  I've never seen a theme jump like that in such a sort time.  Nice to know people are passionate about it.  =)

@Zwerkules:  hey now, I adore that swan tub.  It holds just the right amount of chocolate. ;)

@TSMDude:  Do you mean placeables or inventory icons?  I've seen a ... radish like placeable, red bottom with a green top.  No clue where though.  It is in our placeable hak.  As well as a matching inventory icon.  I've also seen potato icons.  The scripts sound great!  Personally I'd like the PP one the most but all of them would be fun.

@Mdarkbyte - I TOTALLY agree about the lack of ragged looking clothing.  There are some options out there on the Vault right now.

Mr T did some patched leathers a long time ago.  There were some quirks with the coloring of the sticthing that I fixed for the Mythos clothing hak.  I also made some forearms to go with the set.  I did the work a few months ago, but have not released yet, so not sure if y'all would want them included in this challenge or not.  It is tough for me to make that call on my own stuff. ;)  In the screenie, his original work is on the right, my changes on the left.

Dartagnon's Rotex: Women of Fantasy  has several female torsos that work for ragged look.  Again for the Mythos upgrade I did a male version of his torso as well as made the icons.

Speaking of JDA's Chult Clothes, I did some texture and icon work on those as well.

I was thinking more general trash/garbage/refuse, rather than recognizable excrement (which would be more appropriate sitting or floating in a sewer, in my opinion).  Food scraps, leftover bones, ruined clothing, used bedding (straw, grass, etc.), deceased pets, broken pottery...lots of possibilities.  I wouldn't go for a Charisma decrease, but likely a penalty to Appraise/Persuade/etc.

I skimmed so it may be suggested.. but what about an old floppy hat turned upside-down and full of coins? I could see this used for beggars or street preformers.

Well NWN already has that, at least. For instance, this is one of many things I have added to the default creature heartbeat scripts in my module:

    if(GetLocalInt(OBJECT_SELF,"sitground")) ActionPlayAnimation(ANIMATION_LOOPING_SIT_CROSS, 1.0f, 9.0f);

With which you just have to set an integer variable on the creature instance in question in the toolset.
