So is combat similar to Final Fantasy 12? If so thats not bad, but I still dont quite get how the game works. I have never played a fantasy MMO, so I cant relate to that. The closest thing to an MMO I have played was Phantasy Star Online, and thats an action rpg.
Anyone know if for sure if characters appearance can be changed after the initial creation process?
Im not sure if i misunderstood what you ment here but I have to point out that this game is not an MMO. It is single player only, like Mass Effect, but the combat is very different from ME. I would suggest looking around the internet for some gameplay trailers so you can see the game in action. I think Giant Bomb had a good gameplay video.

I have also heard some comparisons made between this combat system and FF12.
As far as multiple characters, you can make as many characters as you want. One of the major selling points of this game is replayability.
On a personal note, I never enjoyed Baldur's Gate 1 or 2. I see that they were great at what they did, but their combat wasn't my taste, and I'm still incredibly excited for Dragon Age even though it is the spiritual successor to those games. To me this means DA will have a narrative that is beautifully written and engrossing to play.
In the end, I recommend giving it a try. If you like RPG's this game is highly unlikely to disappoint. I myself am not completely sold on the combat, but I won't miss the chance to experience the story.

The player can only create one character per run-through, but you will at most times have the choice to have as many as four companions in your party. You will have full control (leveling, spells, skills, inventory, combat - everything) over each member of your party.Bhirava wrote...
What I really meant to ask was can you make mutiple characters in one game? Like a team..
You can, however, create as many characters as you wish, which is the beauty of DAO, as each type of character (mage, dalish elf, dwarven commoner, etc) will give the game it's own unique twist on the story and character interactions.

If you hated Baulder's gate, then don't bother with this game. Fighting is the same, you have no control over your characters every attack like in Mass Effect.
That's not exactly true. You can set up tactics for your characters and you can take complete control over each of them and leave your main character to follow whatever tactics rules are set up for him/her/it
This is NOT an action RPG. This game is tactical, much more tactical than Mass Effect. Combat involves careful thought or you are going to be extremely frustrated.
