They don't have to communicate. There's nothing to communicate about. The lighting people have the scene, and they light it. Even if they didn't have the finished character model, they could place any characters around the room to test the lighting. But again, that has nothing to do with the modeler.

You should see me in better light! I look a lot better, honest! (I'm going to use that line.)

His drunk morph is obviously the worst, so it probably looks bad regardless of lighting, and the King morph suffered for the bad lighting.

For what's worth, the drunk Alistair in normal lighting looks like this:

it's essentially the same morph in all cases. The lighting makes the whole difference Image IPB

:blink::blink::blink:

Damn, that's like, a totally different face from the one in the tavern!

You mean the servant woman. ;)
I reject the Fiona theory--but let's no go there.

Side note: Geez, you give people the opportunity to say something nice to a person who has been wronged, and do they take it? No. No, they do not.

I thought Alistair's new model was fine to begin with. Buncha whiners. ;)

Though this lighting issue does not seem to apply to all models equally, I don't recall thinking Isabela looked particularly chunky while in Viscount's Keep.

Other than the nose, I'd identify him as Alistair relatively easily.

That and the mouth seem off, or strange. Doesn't quite mesh well imho.

That would seem to indicate that some areas of the room were adequately lit, while some were not. You'll notice that Meredith's armor has lots of specular reflection while Alistair's looks like lead. I always wondered about that, but blamed the textures. Thanks to tmp's good work, we now know that isn't the case.

That's because Isabela is chunky to begin with, no matter the lighting.

You're trying to be nice to a Bioware employee on the DA2 forums. Hardly anyone here will want to follow suit... :(

For what it's worth, I always thought he looked decent enough (though the lighting certainly has revealed how much better he really looked) so I didn't actually criticize the modeler.

Who ever did Alistiar for the game, hope that she sees the tread =) sorry that the forum gave you such a bad time of it. I think it was a nice gesture errant_knight, good thinking and thank you for posting the pics.

Yes, that looks a bit better for sure. But it still seems like a poor imitation of the Origins model. I just don't care for the DA2 face morph system, especially when its not some great jump in fidelity to explain why its not possible to more accurately import the Origins faces. All the DA2 faces still have the sort of bulbous nose/ identical rounded jawline/chin area. I don't understand why maintaining the fidelity of the Origins characters or returning characters wasn't made a priority when they redid the system.

Doesn't explain how Morrigan was going to look (or maybe will in DLC) based on the msh a modder found:
Image IPB

Hopefully that was rough draft rightfully scrapped.

Well you see him in multiple light sources so I doubt that would change much. Not that I thought he really looked that great in the original version. One of the few complanions I greatly preferred modded versions of. But loved him otherwise.

Is this an apology topic to Alistair's moddeler or a general discussion about DA2 character creator? Because, honestly, it's getting hard to tell.

That said whoever did Alistair's morph did a good job. Same to those who did Cullen and Leliana.

Yup, in Zevran's case that's difference in actual morph shape. Most of that it's caused by how different the new base elf face morph is, i'd say.

Indeed. Perhaps someone can start a lighting topic and a CC topic. There's clearly a lot to be said there. This is a thread about Alistair's character model, and how badly it was misjudged.

Yes, but almost no one has more complaint about DA2 than I! And if I can see the injustice, surely.... No?
