I wonder if ANY of what we're saying is getting through to BW.....

Better to seem like robotic professionals than to sink to the level of those seeking to wound.

Something you fail to see with Final fantasy is that they actually cared for their fanbase for quite some time until recently. There is also a large amount of quality in the earlier titles such as VII, VIII, IX, and X. The amount of time they took on each one is staggering and their attention to what makes them classics in the first place. Plus they had a great understanding of their fans and did not try to simplify or go for the casual gamer. You are also failing to see the point of opinion of sequels and how a bad title can kill a franchise. DA 3 will be an entry in this series and of course the other two will be thrown in on comparison to the gamer. If they loved the first one but dispised the second I would not count on them buying the third just because of the name and the previous entry. It works that way in movies as well some of the time. But your also not wrong in saying DA3 will be judged on its merits by critics. In the end however it is the popular opinion that rules over the critical one and that a fanbase that has been wronged or pissed off will have fewer returns the longer it goes.
Bioware has proven their loyalty to their fanbase, while I have never played any FF game at all. I read of the occasional issues, and while I had friends that enjoyed them, they did not appeal to me, even with all that supposed care for quality.
I may be blinded by trust that has been earned, but some seem to have their eyes covered by bias.

Have they proven their loyalty in this case?

According to this, they cared more about getting CoD's fans' loyalty than maintaining ours. And it shows in this game.

Again, I do not carry a bias against reaching out to a wider market, nor call this disloyal to the current fans. Others seem to....
I do not see CoD/ FPS/ RTS/ consolde gamers as lesser players. Others appear to....
I do encourage caution in how to make that appeal, as to maintain the focus on the RPG, and not the other invited genre. Others like to make subjective and demanding rants over perceived sleights.
YMMV

So, to David and the rest: There's a whole bunch of us who love DA2 but rarely post here or elsewhere about it. We're not averse to even more change, but it's a relief to hear you guys stress the fact that you aren't looking to reset all the things you already changed for the better.

He didn't say that. He said Bioware while trying to tempt a crowd of gamers who play fps's hurt the fanbase. YOU may like it but so what a lot of people don't like it also.

Yes, he did....
I leave for 7 hours and THIS is what happens to my topic???
Anyway, yeah, the idea that BW wants to attract the Blops crowd with this game is downright offensive.
BioWare, if you want to appeal to the Blops crowd? Make a f***ing FPS. God knows there aren't enough generic military FPSes out there. The typical Blops fans (sugar-addled 12-year-olds and drunk frat dudes) aren't interested in a swords and sorcery RPG. Period.
It would seem to be a poor company that was content with their static clients. Sure; maintain what is appealing for your current base, but exploring ways to increase your sales only make what seems to be good business sense.

I don't think of FPS players as lesser. I like CoD games (sans WaW and MW2). It's because of that I know CoD and DA should not try to merge. As I stated earlier, if BioWare wants to appeal to the CoD audience, why would they attempt that with a classic-style RPG instead of, ya know, a shooter?
And "percieved sleights? Are you actively ignoring all the problems brought up in all these topics? Hell, even Gaider in this very thread said that he would agree they didn't spend as much time on this game as they should have. if you still refuse to believe all the problems with this game are only percieved, that's a level of delusion I can't fully comprehend.

I've said it before and I'll say it again: A lot of people who were happy with the game stay out of these forums because of the overwhelming negativity in general and the impossibility to post without getting the threads derailed. Same is true for other places of online discussion, where you're as likely to be called a moron, "baby RPG player", n00b and "Bioware employee in disguise" (why that last thing would be bad thing is beyond me though) than to encounter balanced discussion when you talk about your love for DA2. I mostly discuss the game with my friends IRL.
1. How do you know people who like the game stay out of online forums
2. If a comparable number of people who liked the game exist online, wouldn't the inverse of your theses be true and the people who don't like the game be discouraged to post further due to supporters of DA2 calling them out? Why then would a greater number of people who dislike the game remain?
3. Can you actually say that the positive changes to DA outweigh the negative ones? The lack of content is hugely noticeable compared to DA:O; further damning is the presence of first-day DLC of a new companion and all his quests that could have been included in the vanilla game to make the product less bare. Environments are shamelessly recycled, the main plot takes a backseat to side plots for the first two acts of the game, the combat is essentially hack & slash, equipping your companions is needlessly basic and restrictive, there are bugs galore, and for what? That now we have a voiced protagonist? That they implemented their beloved dialog wheel? I mean, maybe you DO care enough about the main character having a voice that you can overlook all those shortcomings, but I wouldn't presume this is the case. Mind you, I would never call Dragon Age 2 a bad game, but I will say that it's a disappointing one.

Well said. I know of several people who love the game (both in RL and online) who either do not bother with the forums or were chased away/bullied into silence....... People who enjoy the game are actually warned against coming here. Sad, really.

You seem to, as per your prior rant. And because they are making a RPG and wish to expand interest? Just a guess....

My prior rant about what; that 99% of the people I hear talking in online games are either drunk guys or little kids who just discovered swear words? I wan't engaging in hyperbole there, and few who play CoD Blops would disagree.Elhanan wrote...

Criticism is not a problem; opinionated rants are problems. Whining is a problem. Berating the game while advertising another on these forums is a problem.
