Just as a quick comment... I'm not going to speak directly to the "Kinect" thing because that's a rumor... and we don't comment on those.

Regarding the sentiment that a lot of people are expressing though... Development teams are made up of a lot of different people doing a lot of different types of work, saying that the addition or removal of *any* feature directly results in the addition or loss of something in a different area of the game is taking a very simplistic view of a rather complicated set of dependencies.

You can't say something like... If we cut two guns, we get more dialogue options! It doesn't really work that way. It'd be nice if it did... it would probably make a lot of the production guys' jobs easier.

I think most of us realise this. We know that different departments and teams deal with different aspects of the game, etc. But in the end doesn't each department still have to dip into the same overall budget that's funding it? If --for example-- 5% of the games' budget gets allocated towards Kinect support and nothing else, isn't that 5% still a portion of the overall pool that realistically could have been allocated somewhere else and to another department?

Unless of course any costs related to adding Kinect support (theoretically, of couse... ;)) came from a completely separate source and wouldn't have existed otherwise.

Sort of. Budget is usually allocated via personnel. So you have X dudes for a period of time. But it normally doesn't break down as a cost per feature. It's easier to think of it as a simple time cost (that's how we normally deal with it).

Programmer X implements a feature and it takes 6 weeks... that just means they now have 6 weeks less time they can spend on other things.  There isn't really a global project budget though that gets deducted whenever we do a feature (you might be able to think about it like that... but it'll just get confusing in the end).

And yes, sometimes there are ways to defray costs. We might have somebody implementing something for a different project that we can steal, or other factors.

Though in the long run staff is fungible -- you can fire a programmer and hire an artist. Or maybe more than one depending on how folks are compensated.

Of course, you can't do that all the time. If it was that easy, there wouldn't be a Bioware as such -- there'd just be some IP rights, a brand name, and a bunch of freelancers under contract.

That won't be the official cover art, it's just an existing picture for ME3, but slightly modified with the omni-blade thing, The real cover will be awesome. Relax, people.

I don't know, the ME2 cover was pretty bad.

You cant scan your friggin face with kinect unless you just wrap a texture around face model.

Um, why not? Don't you know how Kinect works? By now I thought everybody would know. It's a depth sensor, infrared. It uses an infrared light to register depth. Think LADAR. The RGB camera is just for other functions.

Now I don't think it has the sensitivity required to map facial features but I don't know for sure. As of right now it's possible until proven otherwise.

What's that orange slashy bit below Shep's Omni-tool? Is it a Reaper entering the Earth's atmosphere or... ?

what's up with the omni-tool wolverine blade?

Obvious Photoshop.

And usually covers are made how...?

I think the armor looks different in here, but it may be the small size making things unclear. But I can swear the whole upper section, shoulder pads, and the arm platings are from a different armor. Doesn't look fake, and if it is, it's damn well done. For me, what gives it away is that the EA logo looks surprisingly generic, they usually pimp it up with game-related themes.

It's one of the Reaper atmospheric entry trials, but it looks weird because it's near-on the same colour as the omni-tool he has on and it intersects with it.

The source link doesn't work right and I can't find ME3 in the search engine. Maybe they realized how stupid this is and removed it? I hope so.

Yeah, it's confusing :) maybe that trail should be moved a bit (to the right). 'Twould look a lot better.

Am I the only one that likes this cover? You have Reapers, Earth being obliterated and an angry Shepard with that pretty nifty looking omni-blade. I mean, its not as good as ME1s cover (I really liked that, it had the same sort of vibe as the original Star Wars posters, which is a good thing) but I still like this one. I'd prefer it to show some of the squad, but the only characters they can put on it are Liara and any new squad members because some of the squad will obviously be dead.

It is definetly some kind of blade - its curved, converges to a point, and doesn't have bits flying off, which is unlike all the other Reaper entry trails. That, and it terminates at the handle of the omni-tool, and, well, it looks like a blade.

Using motion control in dance and sport games is one thing, but I have a hard time imagining how it would work in a shooter/RPG...

How does motion control work in Killzone 3? Is it natural? Tiring? Glitchy?

It's just GameInformer cover with Omni-tool blade photoshoped.
Lazy made.
ME2 cover isn't very good but it's not obvious photoshop from some magazine cover.
