Oh this, so much this.
Don't forget how they abandon the whole gang war thing right from the start, and turn the boss from a likeable bad guy, to an antihero of all things. I wanted the MC less of a (stupid) psychopath, I didn't say I wanted him to become a good guy.
The game is a competant game, but as a sequel to SR2 I just find it shoddy.

I'm not sure if I would call making a zombie plauge, shooting down numerous military Aircraft, killing law enforcement officers, bombing or taking over a building, raiding a national guard base, being in a game show about murder, and blowing up an aircraft carrier as being a "Good guy"
Every "good deed" The Boss did was for him or herself alone. Also Spoilers though I'm sure we all have beaten the game.
Stoping the Zombie plauge from spreading? You get alot of money and the support of Swat and the Mayor. Keeping it? You get your own Zombies.
Blowing up the numerous aircraft, that can't be painted good except from his own side. Same with the Aircraft Carrier, that was done only to teach the government a leason and save his LT's.
At the end that was to protect the Saints Rep and save his LT's if you go that route. It had nothing to do with looking good in the US's eyes. The public thought so, but as with Real life, most of the public are morons. And the dear old Government only called the attack dogs off to keep in office. As if you go the other way the Boss doesn't think twice about causing more destruction. Of course the airship was bombing the City, but as the government felt the City was lost, and had lost way too many troops due to the saints. And at the end the Boss takes the city, not for its own good, but for the gangs.
So I don't see him being a hero, or an anti hero. Sure some of what the Boss did had "good" outcomes. But not as the Boss wanted that, in every good case the boss had something to gain, and still is a murdering, psychopath.
An Anti-hero is more like the Punisher, who uses questionable means for what he see's as the common good. So the Boss isn't any sort of Hero, except maybe to those in his gang.

SR3 is the worst SR game to date and is not worth more than $25.
This game takes a few steps forward, but way too many steps back. First, Steelport feels small compared to Stilwater. But I realized that may not be the case, it's just that Steelport looks the same no matter where you go in the city, so you feel like you've been there before when you're actually on the other side of the city. Stilwater had variety in its environment. It's all the same in SR3. SR2 was the best in terms of environmental variety, with the universty district, arena district, downtown, etc. SR3 is nothing but gray city all around.
The customization in this game has been scaled back completely. Gone are the days when we could customize a T shirt and put an over shirt on, and a coat over that. Now it's all just one outfit that are combination of some clothing, and some of these are exactly the same thing but different color or a different logo on them. Didn't we also have the ability to change socks? Where is it? Also, what happened to the Hispanic male and black female voices? Why were those removed? I loved those the most! Why did we get a sh*tty Eastern European accent for the female and to white male voices? Now to cars. I don't know why, but the colors you can paint your car with are all dull, while in SR2 they could actually look pretty sharp, and we also were able to get a 360 view of the car while we were customizing it, which we can't do in SR3.There also seems to be less cars than before. I liked buying a crib and customizing it. We can't do that in SR3. I'll stop here with the customization or I'll be here all day. All in all, customization is a BIG part of the SR series, and they took a lot of that away here.
The activities in SR3, except for a couple, are average at best. Tiger escort was my least favorite. I guess they thought it would be funny and over the top by having us drive with a tiger in the car, but actually I found it quite frustrating because the tiger would choose the worst moment to make me go of to the left or the right. That wasn't fun, it was a chore. I also hated trailblazing in SR2, and I hate it in SR3 as well. But the Cyberblazing things was fun to me. I also liked Tank Mayhem. The most disappointing one was the Professor Genki show. I though it was going to be something completely wacky. Instead it's just shoot everything (except for the panda) from point A to B. There were some activities they should have put in SR3, like the fight club. That should have stayed, and probably should have been something like participating in mexican wrestling matches. In my opinion, that would have been FUN. And the activities should not been tied to to taking neighborhoods.
The story is pretty bad. I'm not saying it needs to be like Bioware, I'm saying that this is just BAD. It's anti-climactic, half-assed, and is just poor. When Gat died, that should have been a big moment, as Johhny Gat was the most popular character in the entire series. Philippe Loren's death should have been something different, too, like a one on one fight scene kind of like how the last Ronin mission in SR2 went. Matt Miller just leaves and that's it? That was a waste of a potentially interesting character. Angel was completely wasted, he could have been much more than a broken bum. Zimos was annoying because of the auto tune. Kinzie was also wasted. This story had very good potential, but it feels like it was rushed and cut in half, and then diced up some more.
What the hell happened to Shaundi? She was PMSing throughout the whole game. Did Shaundi and Gat have a relationship or something? I preferred her when she was a junkie. And Pierce looks completely different, but I
think that's for the better. And weren't we fighting gangs? It seems like all we did was attack their leaders, but not really the gangs themselves. Also, why is there forced music in some missions? If I want to hear music, I will turn on the radio in the vehicle I'm using. And the last mission, the Mars movie thing, was incredibly annoying every
time Shaundi, Gat, and Pierce "died." I was using a female character, and she screamed every time. That annoyed me. Speaking of which, everytime she gets on fire, she screams like a like a thousand banshees.Tone the volume down! Oh, and the AI seems to be worse. I had very litttle trouble with followers getting into a car in SR2 and SR1, so why do I have a lot more trouble now? Sometimes when I have a car with enough seats, one of my followers will just get in a different car and follow me instead of just getting into my car. And remember in SR2 and 1 we could see pedestrians fighting each other, and the police getting involved (without cheats I mean)? That doesn't happen in SR3.
Overall this game feels half baked. It's like the Godfather II game. Sequel to a good game, but gets a lot of major things wrong.
I apologize for the mess which is my post, I'm just really pissed off at this game.

I guess their DLC plan fits that Raymond but sr3 does not. I agree with all the criticisms above. Although I will concede my views on the mc being s good guy.
Sr3 is a sequel in name only. It just doesn't Carry the spirit for me, and despite what you say ken many people (at least as many as you can call on a forum) feel the same way. It's died down now (why would they stay?) but there are still threads filled to the brim with complaints and criticisms.
I just can't support what volition (or thq) has done. For all it's improvements (its a decent game by itself) it just isn't a good SR game.

I'm sorry but the MC was never a good guy. In Saints Row 1 he was as bad as most GTA characters would get. In Saints Row 2 the MC was not a good guy but more of a likeable yet crazy as hell bad guy. Saints Row 3 the MC is the same but just have more toys and better experience at being crazy as ****.

I can relate to the disappointment some are feeling in the sense I know what it's like to see a favorite franchise take a bad turn. But in this instance, I do not feel that way. Volition has earned a sight unseen SR4 purchase with this game.

Go big or go home?
Its the new policy they act on. Go big or go home basically means, they'll focus only on a few titles at a time, and if a given series doesn't sell well (in copies and large douses of DLC) it gets thrown on the chopping block. Red Faction was an example of this, After the last game and its DLC Arcade Spinoff game, they have axed any idea's of a return to red Faction. For good.
As to the rest of that, Johnny dying was a given, look at the last two games, its always who your closest to, and a minority that dies. Lin, Carlos, and that leaves Pierce and Gat, I mean sure Zimos could have died, but meh, you didn't really "grow" on any of the cast. As to the Attitude on the forum its split from what I've seen with more in favor of the new direction, and those who liked the old "gansta" style in the dislike, most of whom as you noted, have given up and left.
The only things I didn't like in the game was the changes to clothing though the new ones look much better, in fact on the looks department SRTT is head over hills better...as lets be honest SR1-2 looked like crap.
The hood control, I liked it being tied into the missions, rather than based on side activities, as to the missions them selves, I wish SRTT had more, but what few it had were far better than those in the previous games.
And while we have much better companions this time around, you didn't do much with them.
As to other things people from the start haven't like changed...
Shaundi. I didn't like that **** in the first place, I honestly expected her to be a turn coat, disappointed that she wasn't, wanted to kill her.
Scale of the World, the world actully isn't that small but it does lack the districts like SR2 had, however it is a new city with its own flavor, that does its job well I think.
Crib customization....I don't see where this matters at all. You didn't do crap in the ones you had in the older games, I support customization to them, but only if its useful and not eye candy, in SR2 all I ever did was run in, grab what I needed, run out. I upgraded them only for the respect bonus.
Not dislikes but just opinions, I miss the Easter Egg like area's and wish we had more buildings to enter. On the other hand flying and driving has improved greatly, finally real tanks, and the game is a whole lot nicer looking. I expect alot of what we are used to seeing wasn't added as its a new engin for them but over all I like it a whole lot, and hope they keep this style, but throw in more of SR2, for SR4.
But then again I hated SR1.

I did try to play SR2 afterwords but I couldn't really get into it, it was the PC version though and from what I have read it was a really bad console port (Based on the controls of the game I can confirm that, grateful they did a much better job with SR3)

I think i'm just letting my annoyance for volition (or THQ's) shoddy business practices and treatment of IP's bleeding through in my opinions. SR3 has so much untapped potential that it hurts, and the obviously chopped up story (and the devs even admitting as such, like an entire gat subplots cut out, and shaundi was supposed to have a character growing arc and not just pmsing the whole time) lazy game mechanics (most of the story missions being activities) and the like I just needed to vent.
In actuality though if I ever get online again I would love to play with you guys.

Meh thats THQ for yah, well least now days it seems. I mean yeah I wish we got a "fuller" game or more options and what not, some meaningful death for Gat, or a look into why Shaundi is acting the way she is.
But I expect that will show up as DLC like the cheat codes @_@ or, it would have pushed the game back, which would have led to THQ going, "KTHNXBAI!" and closing the game for good. They already did cut one of V's legs off. So the problems with SR3 I don't look at it being V's fault I mean they have been upfront and honest with where the marching orders and directions came from. And THQ is not about to say "sorry" they have stated they are in it for the money.
"Go Big, Or Go home."
And yeah Seagloom that mod is great, but I need a newer or new GFX card to play SR2 at high specs, I have upgraded mine in years.
