Because everything in the story has to be wrapped in a pretty pink bow where everyone lives happily ever after...

I don't believe it's that. There's nothing wrong with your ideas. It's just that, compared to others, you don't give alot of details or reasons as to why certain things happened. I mean, Tali has an unnamed husband? What's Kolyat employed as? What was Morinth doing on Mars? Why are Ash/Kaidan Batarian prisoners after 10 years? Why is EDI a geth?

See my point?

Srry for the double post, just realized I never wrote my own epilogue =]

Shepard: Post-humously promoted two ranks to Rear Admiral and has an entire Carrier model named after him. After all, Carriers are named for "humanity's greatest artists, thinkers, and leaders."

Hannah Shepard: Promoted to rank of Admiral in the systems Alliance and uses the SSV-Shepard as her flagship. Denied request to be the Human ambassador to the Citadel claiming "action accomplishes more than politics ever will." Remarried to Steven Hackett and helps raise Shepard's son.

Ashley Williams:
Resigned from Spectre status and took up a role teaching English and History in the Alliance Military Academy. Still get's teary everytime she recites "O Captain, My Captain..." and goes over the war 10 years ago. Mustang Staff Commander herself and single mother raising Shepard's only son alongside Hannah.

Kaidan Alenko:
Despite his death on Virmire, posthumously promoted two ranks and his scholarship is well known for sending the more of Biotics to the Ascension program than any else. Scholarship prospers thanks to continued donations from the Systems Alliance, the Salarian government, and the newly formed Krogan Confederation.

Liara T'soni:
Still the Shadow Broker and rumored to be in a relationship with Feron. Currently raising two daughters and uses her vast network of information to aid Garrus Vakarian.

Garrus Vakarian:
Upon the recommendations of the late Shepard, Williams, Tali'zorah, and a few strings pulled by T'soni was accepted as a Spectre despite the Turian Councilors protests that he was too wild. Uses Spectre funding to aid his family but still on cool grounds with his father. Commander of his own ship and crew and a well respected leader, despite the species. When not on official Spectre duty spends his time on Omega, slowly but surely cleaning the streets. Regularly recieves aid from Liara due to his lack of popularity among the black market.

Tali'zorah Vas Normandy:
After Reaper War married Kal'Reegar and was appointed captain of the Rayya. Recieved the Normandy as a donation from Joker and went used it as her flagship. Currently has three children named Rael'reegar, Shepard'reegar, and Jeff'reegar after her father and her closest friends. Living aboard homeworld of Rannoch as one of it's leaders. Unknown how the Quarians adapted so fast to the planet's surface but Tali'zorah claims it was "a wedding present from a Salarian."

Joker:
Flew the Normandy SR-3 for a few years but was reassigned upon request and recommendation by Hannah Shepard to the SSV-Shepard. Personally oversaw the construction of the ship but was court martial due to suspicion of sneaking an AI into the ship's mainframe. Court martial was overruled due to "lack of sufficient evidence." Hackett presided over Court Martial.

Mordin Solus:
Spent his last years researching ways to alter the genophage in order to slowly allow the Krogan population to rebuild. Died before it was finished and sent information to his nephew for research. Was the only non-Elcor to play in "King Lear" directed by Francis Kitt, director of the award-winning all Elcor production of "Hamlet".

Thane Krios:
Died due to lung failure. Sent his memoirs to his son explaining his actions. Memoirs are only physical indication that he ever existed as, due to his request, he was left out of the history books in his famous actions during the Reaper War. Reason cited was: "I have taken many bad things out of this galaxy and added only one good. I do not wish to endanger it once I leave."

Jack
: Died after Reaper War due to excessive stress on her body from overuse of biotics and drug use.

Miranda Lawson:
Took over Cerberus' resources after the Illusive Man's dissapearance. Cerberus is now a public organization supported by the Alliance and officially took the role she always thought it had, a counter point to the Asari Commandos and Salarian Special Task Group. Inherited her father's substancial funds alongside Cerberus'. Undeniably the richest individual in the galaxy making regular donations to Williams, though tensions are still high after their catfight over Shepard. Spends most of the money in a large orphanage for mistreated and abandoned biotic children claiming "I love children." The orphanage is called Subject Zero.

Jacob Taylor:
Reinstated the Corsairs and become Chief of Alliance Special Operations and aims to rid the galaxy of crime.

Kasumi Goto:
Married to Jacob Taylor and still has a good laugh at the irony of his profession. Is rumored to possess Lady Liberty's head and Michealangelo's David in her basement. Investigations turned out nothing.

Legion:
Presided with peace talks over Quarians and Geth alonside Tali'zorah. Currently the first Geth ambassador to the citadel. Known for frustrating the security guards when passing through the metal detectors.

Doctor Chakwas:
After war took up position as Alliance Surgeon General and held it for several years. Founded the prestigious medical school "Jenkin's Foundation." Well known for both it's culinary center and being the lead researcher on Vrolik Syndrome. Teaches both human and alien biology and medicine and is the first medical school set on a space station.

Rupert Gardner:
Chef at the famous school "Jenkin's Foundation" and founder of the now-legendary food chain "The Cracks". His closest friends laugh at the name, but refuse to tell others why. Students apply to Jenkin's Foundation as much for the food as the education.

Kenneth Donnely:
Married Gabriella Daniels at the recommendation of Shepard. The couple is famous for regularly being listed in "Top 10 Galactic Couples" articles, both publicated and digital. Charged for attempted murder on three Turians claiming that "they looked at my wife!"

Gabriella Daniels:
Well known celebrity but spends most of her time taking care of her eight children. Close friends with old Cerberus operatives Kelly Chambers and Miranda Lawson, despite tensions.

Kelly Chambers:
Started therapy clinic for all species. Is well known for her comforting... treatments.

Wrex:
Krogan Council member elevated for his stunning work in uniting Tuchanka and aiding Shepard in the Reaper War. Famous for forcing Councilor Valern to retire.

David Anderson:
Served on Citadel Council for years after the war. After reconstructions were complete he peacefully retired alongside his wife Kahlee Sanders.

Donnel Udina:
Retired from politics after the war and currently teaching political science at Earth University. Extremely popular among staff and known to be the butt of student's jokes.

Grunt:
After Wrex's new position has assumed to role as leader of the Urdnot Clan. Famous for having 15 children, 7 of which are female and all "pure Krogan." Is well known for being an active participant in arena fights.

Kirrahe:
Assumed role on the Council as new Salarian Councilmember after the previous one passed away of old age. Well known for boring Wrex with speeches on the important of holding the line.

Zaeed Massani: Hunted down Vido Santiago and assumed control of the blue suns. Currently in a relationship with Aria T'Loak due to both of them having similar rules

Samara: Retired from Justicar work after Shepard's death and spends her time with her daughters, but maintains the strict religious ideals of the code rising every morning to mutter a short prayer to the goddess for Shepard.

I think that's everyone important:)
Edit: Added spaces to make it easier to read

that was intentional. I wanted to give the impression that everyone's faded into obscurity after the 10 years. Like a dispationate youth is reading about them in a history book.

to go into specifics:
Tali's husband I left obscure. It could be kal'reagar, it could be a guy she met at a mixer. etc.
Kolyat's job isnt important. whats important is he's not an assassin or criminal. He has a hum-drum, average, job.
Morinth is on Mars, if u chose her over Samara, to prey on humans. its back to her old life.
Ash/Kaidan are batarian prisoners. this is related to why shepard is a fugitive. Think about the human/batarian tensions after arrival/reaper war.
EDI is made with reaper-tech. Where else would she go?

That is my point. These are the galaxy's saviors. They have stopped the unstoppable, united species and planets, led fleets the size of which noone can imagine, and destroyed what passes as the equivelant of gods. In your story only a decade has passed and they become nobodies? Eisenhower became President of the United States in a decade after WWII and and Arthur Wellsley became Prime Minister of Great Britain a decade after Waterloo.

Simply put, most people find it hard to believe that the smartest, strongest, and fastest individuals in the galaxy who traveled alongside the legendary Commander Shepard would just become nobody's in the equivelant of an Asari week.

Yet thats exactly how it happens. Using your WW2 example, think about the vets when they returned home. A lot of them were so broken they couldnt work, or were no longer qualified due to the growing female workforce.  They are the forgotten soldiers returning from the great war.
My impression is, war never channges.

The regular foot soldiers were indeed nobodies since they were simply foot soldiers. None of your crewmates, especially those returning in ME3, are anything near "regular". They are the elite and part of Shepard's own crew and that carries weight.

For example FitzRoy James Henry Somerset was a one armed man who served on Arthur Wellsley's staff. He didn't fight or distinguish himself with fantastic tactics. Yet after the war ended the fact that he served with Wellsley propelled him to the rank of Field Marshal and leader of the army during the catastrophic Crimean Wars. In Japan Toyotomi Hideyoshi was a simple sandal bearer for Oda Nobunaga and didn't fight in the battles. Yet, after Nobunaga's death, Hideyoshi had so much prestige from simply serving as the sandal bearer to Nobunaga that he gathered a large amount of allies and is remembered as one of Japan's greatest military leaders.

These aren't ordinary GI's. They are the greatest each of their species can offer and they served alongside a legend in a war against annihilation. Just by being on the same ship as Shepard people think they should have more worthy titles than simply "married an unknown man"

Well, life has moved on for these characters over the last 10 years in this epilogue thread. This is where I see them based on my knowledge, experience, and intuition of the world i live in. And just because we dont know who Tali is married to in my version of the epilogue doesnt mean she doesnt know or that she isnt happy. Though she'll always wonder what life would have been with shepard. ^_^

Also:

Conrad Verner: Runs a humanitarian aide group in Shepard's honor. On friendly terms with his ex-wife and new husband.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not criticizing you or your opinions. We all have Shepard stories of our own and love (or love to hate if ur renegade lol) our Shepards. I respect everyone's epilogues equally. I'm simply stating why I believe some people commented on why they're glad you're not writing the epilogue for ME3. It is in no way an insult or diss to you or your thoughts =)

Commander James Shepard:
After battling the Reapers he settled down with his new wife, Ashley, remaining in a happy relationship ever since. He remains to this day a powerful vocal figure in the Alliance but hasn't returned to active duty.

Ashley Williams:
Married Shepard after the end of the Reaper battle and they settled down and had two kids. A girl and a boy, the boy she named Kaidan in honor of someone they both once knew. She girl she named 'Summer' after a TV actress she knew. She finally removed the stigma against her family and currently serves as leading general in the Alliance and has helped strengthen alliances with Krogan, Salarian and Turian armed forces respectively.

Kaidan Alenko:
Went down in history as a legend and his sacrfice was remembered and honored.

Garrus Vakarian:
After contently defeating the Reapers, Garrus returned to C-sec and ended up running it personally in only a few years due to his influence. His first order of business was to start sending teams in to clean up Omega and the Terminus systems, which had since become much more ready to accept Alliance and Council leadership since the Reaper war. He subsequently ended organized crime in that area and turned Omega into a peaceful settlement.
He remains in close contact with old friends.

Tali Zorah:
Having returned to Rannoch to live peacefully, Tali was resigned to re-adjusting. She currently lives in a small home in the middle of the first newly reformed Quarian city, which was dubbed by the Geth caretakers as 'Starting city:0000'. She now continues to advocate an end to hostilities between any remaining Geth and Quarian groups so inclined.
She has since not remained close to old friends, for the fact that she lives too far away.

Urdnot Wrex:
After Urdnot became the leading clan of Tutchunka, Wrex became one of the official leaders of the Krogan and his reforms to Krogan history allowed the Krogan race to survive comfortably and never again run the risk of a repeat of past events.
He is now the first Krogan council member, and remains in constant contact with Ashley and Shepard in particular.

Liara T'soni:
Married Feron shortly after the end of the war and used all the remaining resources of the Shadow Broker base to take down what remained of Cerberus.
She is currently the galaxy's most popular information broker and spends most of her time working on the Citadel.

Jack:
Became the star of a very popular television series called 'Pirates of the Stars', along with fellow comrades such as Grunt, Zaeed, Thane and Kasumi. The series ran for seven seasons and was considered among the best drama action to be seen on television since Firefly.
After the series concluded, Jack used her remaining money to provide a home for herself and her newfound husband Earnest Phlemming, her old accountant. She currently teaches biotic defense techniques to young biotics.

Urdnot Grunt:
After living in Tutchunka for a while, and after his successful career as a television star, Grunt went on to become a galaxy renowed action hero. He made his debut in the critically acclaimed 'Blasto versus the Krogan' and from there became known for his silly action quips and one liners.
Eventually he retired from the movie industry and he is currently the Governer of California.

Mordin Solus:
Recieved several nobel prizes for his advancements to various fields in science and finally retired to spend as much time as he could with his nephews. He performed the vows at Shepard's wedding personally.
Tragically, he died a few years later.

Samara:
Continues her life as a justicar, though tries her hardest to keep in touch with her daughters. That said, apart from the most recent social gathering of all the old crew of the Omega 4 relay mission and Shepard's wedding, she hasn't been seen.

Legion:
After squaring off all political tensions between his own race and the Quarians, Legion moved on to becoming one of the first of many Geth to leave the veil permenantly and find a new home. Legion's unique mobile platform became something highly sort after. He currently sits as ambassador for the Geth, as well as being a hell of a techno jazz player.
He also married long time crush EDI.

EDI:
Fused her programming with that of an old mech when the Normandy was decomissioned and married Legion, becoming the first AI ever to have a wedding. She then settled down to become a best selling writer with her book 'Humans on their knees: an account of organic and synthetic societal differences'.
She is currently expecting a child after she downloaded programs from Legion. The child is planned to be called 'Wall-e'.

Jacob Taylor:
Returned to the Alliance and became the top soldier in under Ashley William's command. He now serves on board the SSV PRIIIIZE.

Kasumi Goto:
Was finally arrested for all the theiving she's done over the years and resides in a top level prison. All attempts to have her released have failed and so she'll be in there for life.
Or at least it was, until she managed to escape when they let her be a witness at Shepard's wedding.

Zaeed Massani:
In a tragic event of misfortune, Zaeed developed alzheimers. He subsequently finds himself in the old mercenaries home. Actually quite sad really.

Thane Krios:
After fighting a furious battle with his disease and lasting longer then anyone could have predicted, Thane Krios died a few years after his son Kolyat had his first child. A little girl.
Thane's funeral was the first time in years that everyone had gathered together to bay him farewell, and afterwards the Hanar government used him as the public face to present to the world that Thane's condition was effecting thousands of Drell who needed a cure.
With all the money from Thane's past jobs backing it up, a cure was finally created. In honor of the man it was made for, it was called 'the Krios serum'.

Miranda Lawson:
Spent a few years as a model/actress and was very popular on a television series called 'Tuck' before finally retiring with millions of credits. As she's gotten older, she's only gotten wealthier and is currently the head of several major corporations.

Joker:
After the Normandy was decomissioned, Joker became the pilot of the SSV PRIIIZE. He still spends many a night at Shepard and Ashley's house.

For anyone that cares, I altered my view of Mess Sgt Gardner's life ten years later. Changed the name of the restaurant he opened, and instead of it being in Earth orbit, it's now located near Memphis, Tennessee.

The options are many so I'll just stick with my fave Sheps and their LIs ten years hence.

Jane/Kaiden.
Married, both still working for the Alliance/as Spectres. One child.

Darius/Jack.
Shep would continue (loosely) as a Spectre. He and Jack would travel around the galaxy doing pretty much whatever they want and punishing any bad guys they meet along the way.

William/Ash.
Married. Inactive militarily. Raising their family in an Alliance colony.

Reese/Garrus.
Married. Shep retired from the Alliance/Spectres and works as a diplomat on the Citadel. Garrus went back to C-sec.

And a quick nod to one of my other fave characters:

Zaeed went back to his bar maid lady friend(I'm sure he had one waiting for him somewhere) and married her.

Shepard: Saves the universe, per the norm. At celebration dinner, proceeds to troll the hell out of the Council, the Alliance, and Cerberus during her speech. Refuses to join back with any group. Announces- loudly- that she's taking the Normandy back, gathers up her crew, and leaves.

I like to think that, with all the money at her disposal, Shepard starts helping to fund small colonies, of various races- maybe they discover a new nebula. With some help from friends, various planets are settled, and Shepard lives out her days running security, allowing her to blast slavers and drug runners into oblivion and still be home in time for dinner.

Garrus: Shepard's second in command. Might settle down with a nice girl, might not. The important thing is, he finally gets to do what he wants- make the world a better place.

Tali: Rejects admiralty and acts as a sort of roving ambassador for the quarians, helping to repair their relationship and image with the galaxy.

Zaeed: Goes back to his old job, and occasionally calls on Shepard for assistance. Also stops by for drinks.

Mordin: Dies peacefully, finally free of his troubled conscience. Sends information on a genophage modification that ups the fertility rate without removing it to Shepard before his death.

Miranda: Takes over Cerberus after the death of TIM, running it as a multi-billion dollar corporation.

Jacob: Signs on with Shepard, unsure of what to do with life. Finds that while it can be boring, he's doing a good thing for the galaxy and ultimately finds contentment. Gets married, and has little Jacobs that terrorise the hell out of Garrus.

Kaidan: Climbs up the Alliance ranks and eventually makes Admiral. Meets a nice girl, gets married, avoids the topic of Shepard.

Kasumi: True to her word, she maintains a low profile. Occasionally hired by Shepard to do a little information scavenging, and does heists for fun and profit.

Grunt: is still killing things and enjoying the hell out of it.

Wrex: is still dragging the krogan to glory, whether they want it or not.

Samara: Finally killed on a mission. Buried with full pomp and ceremony. Has a colony town named after her on one of Shepard's pet projects.

Thane and Kolyat: I'm super torn about this, because Thane's my LI and Shepard's great love/passion in her life.

Scenario one: he dies a year after the final battle, holding hands with Shepard and Kolyat and at peace. He promises to wait for Shepard across the sea. Shepard stays true to his memory.

Scenario two: Thane agrees to get a transplant, buying him a few years (since the transplant isn't a cure). A cure is found and Thane is healed. At the ten year mark, he is still calmly following Shepard around on her adventures/missions/general shenanigans, ready to offer advice or a precision shot, whichever is needed at the time.

In either scenario, Kolyat stays on the Citadel, serving Bailey and his eventual replacement when the captain retires. He is considered a good source of information and support. He and Shepard stay on good terms, and Shepard is present for his marriage.

Chakwas: Still on the Normandy. Now famous for drinking raw recruits under the table if they question her authority and are stupid enough to take her up on the offer.

Ken and Gabby: still bickering in the engine room.

Kelly: Retired from Cerberus, she's now an author well-known for her insightful looks into cultures from many perspectives. She settles down with a nice quarian girl and they travel the galaxy together, looking for adventure and new stories.

Jack: Officially, whereabouts unknown. Unofficially, there are occasionally reports of a woman seen fleeing scenes where the bodies of slavers, rapists, and former Cerberus officials are found.

Liara: lol shadowbroker has no social life! :innocent:

Legion: Retreats back behind the Veil. From time to time, oddly encrypted messages pass from that part of space towards Shepard's general direction. No information has been gleaned from these transmissions, and it is disregarded as old radio broadcasts reflecting from nearby galaxies.

Joker: Still flying his baby with his girl EDI at his side. Joker also is training pilots on Shepard's behalf, although he does this under the radar and this is not considered public information.

(I have this whole side story/projection into the future thing going on with Shepard, where most of her old crew is helping her out on her last real mission for the galaxy. :bandit:)
