If the geometry was across more than one tile in the group... I think I've only ever used Velmar's Tile Set Creator to load a number of models like that and it works off the .SET file to load the appropriate tiles in a group. I believe NWMax does this with the "Mass Operations" under General Utils. But I'm unsure if it works in the same way. LOL, it's sad how my memory fades. Probably not even 8 months ago I intensively worked on a 15x16 tile group and I can't even remember how I loaded it up, now.

I have access to Max. I'll get the other stuff. What I'm hoping is to be able to make a copy of a group and take out the stuff I don't want. That way I have both groups available. I suppose this means it'll be a new tileset at that point?
I'll post if run into any questions once I get started.
Thanks everyone.

Thanks! At this point it looks far better than it plays, walkmesh-wise. I'm hoping to have a big enough chunk to fix that sometime this year.Gra_Ulv wrote...
OldTimeRadio, that is a sweet recreation of Megaton from Fallout 3. Great work. I love Fallout 3.
Being able to use Max makes a huge amount of difference.I have access to Max. I'll get the other stuff.
I may be putting my foot in my mouth, but if that's kind of how the changes will be confined, I think you can just add your new group to the .SET file, add the .SET file (along with the new models & the .ITP) to a HAK and all you'd have to distribute is the HAK with the changes. I'm assuming this is for a PW or something. This sort of thing is quite doable with the Tile Set Creator, but I recommend you watch the tutorial videos that Velmar produced for it. You kind of have to pay attention because in the tutorial he meanders around a bit in the middle segments. What I'm hoping is to be able to make a copy of a group and take out the stuff I don't want. If you wanted make a new tileset to make this (and presumably other) changes in, I think LabTek's Tileset Duplicator is still what most people use, unless they take the route of doing the renames by hand.
edited to add ITP to hypothetical HAK contents, hat tip to Winterhawk

This sounds good. I'll try this first, then I can just add the stuff to my servers own top hak that people will have to download anyway. Thanks for the suggestion, I'll squawk if I run into trouble, lol.

To load individual models in NWMax you're going to go to the NWMax floating window and click Browse to find the files in your override directory here. I'm going to have to defer to someone else when it comes to loading, say, a group, and how you would go about that with NWMax, alone.Gra_Ulv wrote...
I have 3ds max 2010 running. I have VelTools installed in it. I have NWMax in it. How do I get the tileset files in the program so I can work with them? I didn't see anything like import or anything. I have exported all the files from the tileset hak into a folder for easy access.
Oh, and my NWMax window will probably look different than yours. Yours still has the same rollouts, at least for loading models anyway.

I got frustrated with 3ds max 2010. Uninstalled it, lol. I installed GMax 2.1. Installed NWGmax plus and imported the group. That easy. Just the group I wanted. Now to see if I can make the changes I want and save this as a separate group so I can add it to my own top hak. I don't want to replace the group, but make an edited copy. So I have both to choose from.
To accomplish that, you will have to rename every tile in the group that you change, and that means all the sub-pieces inside it that are name dependant.
say a tile is called tcn01_a01_01, then inside of that you will likely find tcn01_a01_01a, tcn01_a01_01ml1 and tcn01_a01_01ml2. ALL of those have to match the new tile name.
You have to add the tiles from the group to the .set file AND to the .itp file for that set (the itp is what controls your choices inside the toolset).
You have to adjust total tile count in the .set file, add the definitions (copy and rename the original ones), and add a group entry for the new group and adjust group count appropriately.
None of this is all that hard to do, but it is NOT a simple 1-click type operation. If you miss steps, things will not work.
