bioware should do some tests to see if it could be gracefully incoorperated

What do you think the media reaction would be given that they called ME1 a sex simulator?

Gee, I wonder how those people arguing against any kind of nudity, sex and/or romance in games got their children.

Simple - they don't want their kids to learn about that stuff while they're still kids. Video games are for kids [this is, of course, not true but most people don't get that]. Hence video games mustn't contain sex.

There happens to be a nifty little rating on the corner of the box. Idk the details of how it's done anywhere else, the rating goes in to why the game is rated as such, it labels 'nudity' as one of those reasons. Parents can't really complain when it's them whos not doing their part

"This motion picture has been rated 'R'...bla, bla, bla..."
"OK, kids...time for bed."

Pretty much any kid knows theres a thing called sex before theyre 10... A little afterwards they know what sex is...

Considering the game is rated 18 plus theeen...

There are ratings for a reason. Parents do your damn job...

EDIT: When I was six I watched alot of the "nightmare on elm street" and "friday the 13th" movies with my sister (6 years older than me). I had nightmares. I have never killed anyone due to the violence in those movies.

I'd go out on a limb here and say that if anyone kills anyone due to violence in games or develop a dysfunctional love life due to nudity in games... Well then I'd say that the person in question have way deeper psychological issues and that those are the reason for these things. Again... Something a decent parent would have picked up on and tried to treat.

The only murderer I know was a diagnosed paranoid schizophriac who didn't take his medication for quite a while. Can we really blame a game or tvshow for his crime instead of lacking commitment to the treatment of psychological illnesses?

Back to mass effect. Hmm nudity isn't required. for the sake of nudity. But lets have an example.

Shepard and a LI is in bed (actually after the scene blackout). They talk about the dangerous missions ahead. If a female character is propped up on her elbow (or man for that matter) does it matter whether it shows a breast including a nipple?

It doesn't reaaally have to be there. Covers could have been pulled up. But to me a bit of nudity adds... hmm emotional trust and closeness to a scene like that. but it's not necessary. It's about the story which requires emotions and immersion into the role playing here.

I was trying to explain the parent's opposition to nudity in video games - I never claimed that it made sense.
And since you're another player who thinks that the world revolves around the US I think that I should mention that, in the UK, ME1 (with nudity) is rated 12+, ME2 (no nudity, although Miranda's outfit comes close) is rated 15+ (presumably due to the opposing force largely consisting of humanoid aliens rather than robots)

IMO the real issue is the fact that they replaced the ME1 style of tasteful romance scenes with the awkward dryhumping ones as seen in ME2.
ME1's scenes worked well and in comparison ME2 feels like a step back and a breaking of immersion(latter varies for ME2).
You don't watch say, a Bond movie for the bed scene(s) and anyone that says, or does otherwise has bigger issues. Fact.
It should be part of the experience. In this respect ME1 succeeded, while ME2 didn't(exceptions apply), because it was afraid to be 'itself'.

Commander Shepard - James Bond; Just sayin'

From Denmark here. So also a different point of view on those things from here.

Hmm actually I don't know the ratings for ME here in DK.

Offcourse ratings not being "accurate" is also a problem for parents.

Hmm speaking of myself my parents didn't really care much about what I watched/played/did. Not from a lack of caring but because they trusted me to make the right and informed decisions. And apart from some drunken rebellious teen period (which really werent that radical) I did that. :)

Well I'm not a parent myself so I can't really speak on behalf of them...

Again often it doesn't make any sense. Kids can't see skin in games? Ever taken them to a beach?... *sigh* strange world indeed.

Woah, who you talking about there? I specifically said that i don't quite understand the details of non-ESRB ratings, nowhere did i say that it's because i dont care because the world revolves around the US.

That was in response to the post directly above my post (the "Considering the game is rated 18 plus" bit) and not yours.

I don't need nudity by any means, and it probably would look silly. But ME2 took a huge step backwards in regard to the connection with love interests. ME1 had beautiful and romantic love scenes, ME2 had goofy dialogue and then fade-to-black after a kiss. That has much less impact.

Depending on your "camera angle" real sex aint beautifull or romantic to look at. So... Don't want too many details in ME series...

They just have to add whatever needs to be added for emotional immersion with the characters.

I liked the nudity in mass effect1 they got so many things right in that game other then saving the scene for the end, it should have been the mass effect standard.
