Considering that discussing this on the Kinect thread appears to be off-topic, how about we do so here?

The cover is legit, but most likely a placeholder.

What do you like?

What do you dislike?

Do you have any suggestions?

Personally, I don't think that it's too bad. I like the idea with the different colours, but it needs a few tweaks to achieve color harmony. But perhaps it's a better idea to go with a black bacground all together.

Anyway, I'd like to see some characters in the background, and Reapers. Don't forget the Reapers.

I wonder if the background's obvious void is where they planned to place the characters' faces.

Agreed with the need to tweak color balance - but the minimalistic version you suggest might get covered with the Collector's Ed like with ME2. And I'd like the cover to be less... personal, and more on par with ME1's approach to old-school design. Not sure about characters/environments in the background, I'll leave that to the devs.

But this one (placeholder, fake, or whatever it is) is definitely ten times better than the horror which was ME2.

its not bad, but its not WOW, a cover like this does not capture my attention, it needs to be a more darker picture with a more darker message "is this it, will shepard die will earth be destroyed?"

Lazy, but still better than ME2's piece of crap boxart

I honestly don't like it. It's similar to the DA2 Cover: absolutely lazy.

This is gonna be the final game in the trilogy. Expectations are high :alien:

Could be better, could be worse.

Hopefully they can come up with something that's a little better. But hey, it's better than the travesty that is ME 2's boxart.

Placeholder using a recent cover I would say

This one is shown on EA site afterall.   I would expect a small turnover in covers being shown.

Additionally we thought the cover below was going to be ME2 cover for quite some time before a very late change

I expect similar to ME2 to be honest,  since its carrying on the shooter route expect a few guns and heroic poses!

I like it. It could do with some squad members, but that'll be difficult seeing as all apart from Liara and one of the Virmire people can die. They could have Liara and the new guy. However, they've said this is more Shepard's story, so I think Shepard on his own is kind of fitting.

I like the omni-blade thing, and I like the Reapers in the background and Earth burning.

Also, why are people saying lazy?

I like it.
It combines the color schemes of the first two movies and showing Shep alone alludes to a.) the final chapter in his story and b.) the idea that no one is guaranteed to survive.

Also, the simplicity of the composition makes for an easily identifiable box cover in a store setting, the actual purpose of box art.

how i can see this working for the collectors edition is if they take out the Mass Effect, Keep the 3 and have a reaper in the background

Lazy made.

It's just GameInformer magazine cover with photoshoped Phalanx and Omni-tool blade that looks stupid.

I don't think this is even a placeholder.

To be honest, the more I imagine it being in standard box art size, and not as a thumbnail, the more I appreciate it.

I dont like it, looks terrible and whats with the Kinect banner, please dont say they're making it Kinect compatible. I liked the ME:2 cover, I dont understand why people hate it.

To me, this is a mixed bag, I like it...but also my main reaction is "meh" at the same time.

More importantly, I think someone needs to get a comment from BW confirming that the box art is 100% genuine, it just seems wrong to me that the official box art for a major game would be released 7/8/9 months before the game itself comes out.

As for the "better with Kinect" banner...placeholder? Generic template? ME, or in fact any RPG for that matter does not need motion control, its a gimmick, unless its something really revolutionary.

Because it's friggin horrible. So bad that it made me upgrade to the limited edition. Perhaps that was Bioware's intention.

Bioware made the GameInformer cover, as well as all the other similar covers for other magazines with ME3 cover stories.

Clearly they wanted our first glimpse of the game to be based around this image if Reapers descending on Earth and obliterating it, with Shepard being front and centre because it is his story. If thats the image they want for the game it makes perfect sense to use it as the cover.

I really don't get the whole 'omg bioware is so lazy' attitude. They make some artwork and use it on more than one thing and now they're lazy? Why shouldn't they use it more than once. This artwork was more than likely done for the boxart first, then edited slightly for use as magazine covers.

It's not lazy because it's the Game Informer cover. It's lazy because it's just Shepard standing. Nothing is happening in the picture. Just standing. It's awfully lazy and boring.

But, thats all he's doing in the ME1 cover. Standing there. Its the background where things are happening, and here whats happening is that a Reaper fleet is descending onto a flaming Earth. Thats a bit more than nothing.
