that box-art is too generic, we need something more artistic for ME3,
I for one, really liked the below concept art from a deviantart artist:

Well, if it's the final version...it could be better 'cause it's a huge final! It needs some epic. Looking at 3 covers, i still prefer ME1 because it looks like sci fi cover, not a shooter. And...Omni blaze too...r u kidding? We've lost some reality in ME2, now we are gonna loose everything? Do you guys imagine how it's possible to kill somebody with a HOLOGRAM?

yes this is awsome!! but i think miranda should be replaced with eirther garrus, liara or tali but i think garrus simply because he's a legend!!

It's fine but I doubt it's going to stick, anyway.

Still loads better than ME2's, but in any case most of us are going to grab the special edition anyway, right?

I'd like to go back to the ME1-style, that was iconic and had an almost Star Warsy vibe going on. Simple is usually best, stick to three characters (Shepard and two squad-mates), try to be consistent across the three box arts as much as possible.

Though ideally, I'd want something fairly minimilistic for the collector's edition. Hm, actually, come to think of it, I don't own the physical boxes for the first two games (Steam copies) so it honestly doesn't matter.

My $0.02.

I don't think we should see Shepard's face on the cover this time. Preferably looking away at the catastrophe caused by the Reapers. This will solicit role playing and imagination before the box is even opened. What is Shepard thinking? Is he furious? Is he lamenting? Is he horrified? It's all left up to the fans' interpretation. How Shepard would react in that sort of situation is based on the person looking at the box.

The current placeholder looks like some pissed off guy about to get into a bar brawl photoshopped in front of the Earth. It's cliche, lame sauce, and poor art.

Are you saying they shouldn't be?  you'll fight Reapers, so you might as well call yourself and your team members giants^_^
I find the above concept a lot better than what we saw up until now and I'm sure the design team needs any good ideas from fans.
Just looking at some of the fan-art for Mass Effect, I noticed that a lot of independent artists did some extraordinary art, that sometimes surpassed even the one from Bioware.
The highest quality art for ME3 up until this point came from patryk-garrett, so, maybe BW should encourage it's artist fanbase with a contest for the best ME3 cover:whistle:

One thing all of you have to remember is that you are the diehard fans that will be purchasing the game no matter what the boxart looks like. You are also the most likely to have issue with it no matter what it looks like, because Mass Effect is so dear to you, and you will have the largest amount of preconceived notions about what YOU want it to look like.

So, if I was part of the marketing team, I'd not be too concerned with your opinions (no offense). I would however, be concerned with the opinions of potential players who have not yet experienced the series, but have heard snippets of information about it through all the other gamesites and publications, Gamestop, word of mouth etc.

Box art designers have all of this in mind when they design box art, as well as how the box will look on a shelf in a store, the most important feature of box art design.

I would instead be concerned with the cover art of the Collector's edition, which I'd imagine most of you be buying, displaying, excited for. That design will not have to appeal to a new or casual fanbase, so expect greatness.

There's just way too much crap in that artwork. It's tiring. I'd personally prefer a more simplistic approach like the ME2 Collectors' Edition.

Well I don't think he should have both the gun and the omni blade one or the other. I also think there should be more of the Earth showing or make the shot so you see a bit of Earth being fine and destroyed then we can see other worlds too that are having the same issue this would help people visually see its not just Earth being attacked but others as well sense some on the forms think only Earth will be hit early on and stay that way with a few skirmishes this would help them see that won't be the case.

I like the new armor I think he's got that interesting belt that was in ME2 just a plainer version of it.

If they scrap this cover for another one I'd like to see one with more crewmen on it like we've had the last two games maybe shep and team dextro with Ash? Especially if all three of these people will be FT crewmembers for the ship. Maybe have them on background that shows destruction and chaos but may/maynot be Earth we just see twisted metal the scorched earth and perhapse blood or dead bodies. This way they could be anywhere in the galaxy once again helping those on the forms to cope with the fact it Earth is featured at all which I don't see what the issue is on the whole Earth is in ME3 I personally love the idea my homeworld is not just there but visitable. I already know it's not just about Earth being defended from the reapers but the rest of the galaxy. We started at Earth in ME leaving it we come back to Earth to retake it in ME3.

OK, but then the Kaiden, Legion, Jack and Thane people will go into seizures, thus starting a reaper sized angry invasion on the forums about why "their" character was denied.

You have a good point. Bioware have said as much in their (sparse) forum posts on the topic.

I think most people would appreciate the situation they're in, with regards to attracting new fans.

Need moar Garrus.  ;)

No, seriously though, its better then Mass Effect 2's but it's missing Shepards crew. This is a team work game, kind of implies the game to be something it's not. Unless Shepard likes solo missions now?

That would suck.

I say... no additional characters on the cover... this game is about Shepard and the reapers.. the other supporting cast members could've been killed, so, them showing up on the box-art wouldn't make much sense for everyone:ph34r:

I honestly don't like it. It's similar to the DA2 Cover: absolutely lazy.

This is gonna be the final game in the trilogy. Expectations are high :alien:

agreed, with all the anticipation of the final edition to series they need to deliver. granted the art on gamecase wont repel ME fans to still get the game, but i agree with others that it just seems lazy.

atleast add in characters that are core to the story (that have invincible plot armor :P) like anderson/udina, liara, or even some reaper variation. or if they wanna show earth, have it under massive attack with dropships everywhere (im sure we all know thats how the game is planned to start)

I don't want Shepard to be on the cover, because none of my Shepards will look like that. I think the cover should be black with Harbinger on the front, and with gold writing "THEY HAVE ARRIVED" or something like that. Just no Shepard.

I'd have put two squadmates on there, but at this point, the only guaranteed ones are Liara and some new guy(s).

I mean unless you want to choose between Ashley or Kaiden on there.

Might as well be Ashley for consistency with the first game's cover, but Kaiden needs some love.

Not in my universe though, since the man's dead. R.I.P. you hero.

Um....that's cute and all.

But you could you show some other people besides Shep, and make it a little less cheesy.

Horrible. lol completely horrible.

I thought it couldn't get worse than ME2, I was wrong.

It's nowadays industry tendency of making lazy standard edition covers and amazing collector's edition covers.

.......Still not seeing what's so horrible about it. Since when has "badass" been a synonym for "cheesy" and/or "lame"?

I'm boggling my own mind looking for faults in the cover and I just can't see them.

I loved the ME1 BOx art. Looking at it still gives me a fuzzy feeling. It's something I can't utter in words, it just is so inspiring... The ME2 cover on the other hand was pretty bad, it's just Sheploo with Thane and Miranda posing with guns.

I would like to see something more like the me1 cover art on the me3 box.
