How is that a bad thing? Mass Effect was a shooter/RPG hybrid and that experiment failed on many levels. From what I've read both the RPg and shooter mechanics have been updated. That's good.Fixers0 wrote...

If there gonna focus on the combat they better make it worthwhile.
That was one of my problems with ME2.

Can't wait to see the codex entry where they try to explain this one...It should be hilarious!
I don't know remember how tech armor was explained, but I was confused by it as well. Psionic blades? This is a mutant power. Do they not know what their intention for mass effect was? The way I understood warp was that it created a field around your target and proceeded to crush them. If that's the only bad thing I'll have to deal with in addition to what we got with ME2 I'll do my best to live with it. Maybe if the blade is visible during CQC I can find some way to color it so that it appears clear.

What the hell do you think warp is?
They are just taking warp and making a blade out of it to cut someone.
I've suggested this since ME1.
I think Warp is a Mass Effect Field that rapidly oscilates between a Mass Lowering Field and a Mass Raising Field.
Its one thing to create a basic Field and quite another to create a Field of that level of precision and control.
If the Adept can concentrate and manipulate their neurons that well, then why bother with melee at all? Might as well just create one of these precision Warp Fields inside of an enemies head and be done with it.

It's going to be a mass effect blade in the game. IGN just has no idea what they're talking about.

I do not like that a single ("special") melee attack can kill an enemy. That's just weird.
Why? If you snap someone's neck or run them through with a knife, do they not die? At least, are they not incapacitated in a severe way and thus unable to continue combat?
I'm sure there'll be some feature that prevents the instakill melee from being a game-breaker. Doesn't the article say Shepard needs to "charge up" the attack for a while?

So because bioware has made the core gameplay (which has been third person shooter for all ME games) suddenly they've changed markets? The other IGN article talks about how the RPG features and choices have been refined but i'm guessing you didn't read that. The developers have been going on about how they're improving the RPG-ness for this game, but the game is also a shooter. Why shouldn't bioware make that aspect as good as they can as well?
Well both games had shooter elemets, and i have no problem with shooter in general, but Unfortuantly what that Article seems to suggest is that Mass Effect combat equals that of generic third person shooter in space, meaning that all unique features that were in the first game are going to be removed. (if they weren't allready.)
Let's take a small thing from the first game that was removed in the seconds game in order to make the game more recognisable to shooter gamers:
All the codex says weapons are miniature rail guns, that mass accelerate slugs to the speed of light, this was seen in game as bullets instantly hit their target and showing this sci-fi blueish trail to let you know where your bullet went. i thought this was a cool and unique feature, and then in Mass Effect 2 the majority of the weapons seem to have visable shot patterns.
See what i mean, i fear that Mass Effect 3 will be like a the standard modern third person shooter, but in a Sci-fi shell.

Last time I checked, most of the enemies are heavily armored. Yeah, I hope they put some cooldown on it or something, but it is still weird. I mean a super knife that sticks out from the armor

^that.
Also I like the way the gameplay is looking, a lot of cool little features added and lots of improvemnts graphics wise it seems. Cant wait for the finished product.
Also just because they are improving the shooting elements does not mean they have to downgrade the RPG ones. When will people realize these things arent inversely proportionate?
