I really hope its sarcasm. We'll find out on Monday.

I'm pretty sure it was and I really hope I’m' right on that or the writer of the article has weird taste.
Non of this bioware!
Image IPB

Still otherwise this sounds awesome. Mass effect is one of my fav series but combat wise its been...alright, ME2 improved allot but not great.

Know what I really, really, really hate about pop-up advertising?

I'm at work. We use Apple machines. We're not allowed to download anything. Serious, if we want to change a setting on our browsers, much less download an update, we have to get permission and have somebody else do it for us.

So I'm on a little break while my latest work is being edited -- and can't read any of these articles because ads keep popping up AND FAILING TO LOAD, leaving a big, huge white space where the article should be while the little wheel goes round and round.

Thankfully, I'll be home soon on a immaculately maintained IBM machine with a pop-up blocker that works.

I think it's a subtle way of telling you that the Princess is running Inferno Ammo on her Claymore.

And no, that is not an innuendo. Get your mind out of the gutter.

Right.ME2's lore is as much part of the canon as ME1's is. I think it's time to start accepting it. Also, lore retcons? Try harder. I won't start a discussion on the supposed retcons that ME2 had, because I am sure that changing the topic will appear very helpful to some people.
Let's skip all info from ME2. How are the haptic interfaces displayed? How does the flashlight the C-Sec rescue officer work? How do omni-tools transfer information? Magic?
There are either a) Physical components of an omni-tool, B) ME1 is the biggest lore retcon-ner in the past decade.
If physical components do exist, then so does everything else from ME2, because all they require are more physical components. Combat drones are part of the lore, whether you want it or not.

Xeranx wrote...I also love how an off the hand comment is so readily met with a brusque manner as you've demonstrated.  Iakus said nothing to you, but you went on the offensive.  I think you need to cool down.

Let me get to the part where he didn't start complaining already. Nevermind.
My tone is nothing close to aggresive, it's sarcastic. A very well justified sarcasm when these boards are filled by the same complaints and obssesive pessimism, for well over a year.
Don't do the same with ME3.

How are the haptic devices displayed?  Most assuredly it's a light source.
For examples:
http://electronics.h...environment.htm
http://www.io2techno...om/examples.htm
As for the flashlight the C-Sec officer uses, omni-tools are hand-held devices.
Reference here: http://masseffect.wi...wiki/Omni-tools
Transfer of information...are you being serious?  Or do you mean specific information because we already have remote controls currently.  We have wireless hubs and methods to carry a wireless hub with you in your pocket.
As far as combat drones being a part of lore, I don't remember seeing them in the first game.  Maybe you can point them out to me.

I'll paste this here, http://www.merriam-w...tionary/sarcasm, to the merriam-webster dictionary.  If you wish you may pay attention to the synonyms portion and see where it fits your response.  Especially where it says dis and epithet.  You may want to rethink what you feel aggressive means and how it applies to how you came across.  That will take care of your tone and whether or not it means what you think it means.

It sounds like Gears of War.

If so, that's not a bad thing. Mass Effect's combat has always been clunky. Hopefully that'll be different in ME3...and it sounds like it will be.

Back to the shooter thing. I read the article and I was really happy. I'm someone who liked the combat in ME1 better than 2 because 2 was basically get behind cover and shoot or vanguard around when you can.  One of the things I loved about ME1 was the sense that I was out on a planet and I had to plan a tactical assault on a pirate ship landed in a valley near by.  Doing these assaults especially on foot or in bad weather was one of the most fun shooter experiences I have had.

The thing that drove me to distraction in ME2 was I felt like the game had robbed me of mobility.  I am a shooter player who enjoys running and gunning.  I found the gears of war style cowering behind cover most of the time to be boring.
I am so happy to hear that this is going to play more like Borderlands or Halo and be a deeper RPG to boot.

I can't wait

It will however play very much like Gears of War--right down to the context-sensitive dodge/cover/roll actions, picking up enemy weapons and using them, and melee auto-kills.

cover is essential in ME2 but as upgrades accumulate, CRC becomes a lot of fun .
i can't wait to experience the new melee tactics .

i wonder, for those who'll just start with ME3 without even having played the first two, what will the default choices be ?

minimal complexity would probably be a safe assumption, i.e. any characters that could be killed will be dead, any characters shepard wasn't forced to encounter weren't met, etc.

Why are people complaining about better gameplay? Was the The Witcher 2 worse for creating more enjoyable combat sequences? Is ME's abysmal gun accuracy preferable to actually being able to hit targets at more than 15 feet? <_<

Anyways, my only qualm with this preview is that it confirms the return of the ugly 'bullet' icon of ammo powers. Why, Bioware why?!

I agree with this, get rid of the icon and juse keep the color holo things on the side.

The icon is way too cartoony.

I don't see how any of this is bad news. The writer of that article seemed very impressed with the gameplay. It sounds like the shooter mechanics have been drastically improved, and from what we know by statements of developers, there will be huge improvements to the rpg mechanics as well. Take a look at phaedon's confirmed features thread: Returning squad members, multiple power evolutions, customizable armor, and weapon mods. I understand the mindset of a pessimist; you don't want to get your hopes up too high, and the developers to get lazy or lose focus on the important things. People need to calm down a little though, and back off of Bioware. They're trying to make the best game they can, and derision does not help them do it. We haven't even seen a gameplay video yet, so such harsh skepticism is somewhat premature. I share some of the voiced concerns, but I stress the word concern, as I do not share the expectations of failure.

Well there you go. Omni-tool blade confirmed.

Button awesome implemented

Press a button and something awesome happens!!!!! that reminds me of something........

EDIT: also i support jacks biotic punch for vanguard melee :D give vanguards more biotics while your at it Image IPB
Also to make vanguards even more powerful i want to charge biotic punch some1. Also if u charge a NPC Vanguard while they charging i want a Dragon Ball Z game style "clash" sequence.

Maybe it's just me, but didn't IGN herald ME2's gameplay as fantastic, even at some point stating they would sooner play ME2 shooting than GOW2 shooting.. and now are claiming that it was clunky, unwieldy and half assed?

I do like the sound of the combat changes (though am hoping they have kept the grenades disc-like and sticky, if only for continuity) but it sounds like IGN are trying to emphasise how good ME3 is largely by pretending they never really liked ME2 anyway

This.

It's either too noticeable or too subtle; sticking the icon in with the UI, right beside the ammo counter, would work best. Plus, I hate seeing it in cutscenes, almost as much as I hate seeing the flashing thermal clips off to the side when I'm trying to focus on a conversation. Wreaks havoc on my immersion and enjoyment when it happens. <_<
