I've started playing BG/BG2 again (thanks GOG) and I'm wondering how the game handles magic resistance in regard to weapons using ammo. For creatures immune to normal weapon/+1/+2 weapons, what is the bonus used by bows/arrows/slings? Those weapons have a THAC0 bonus and a damage bonus. I know the THAC0 bonus is not used for this purpose, but what about the damage bonus? For example, the Strong Arm +2 is +3/+3 longbow. Can it hit +2 immune creatures with normal arrows? Or is the arrow bonus the only one mattering?
Bow/Crossbow/Sling and magic resistance?

Only the arrow matters. You can have a +4 bow firing normal arrows and it would not be able to hurt foes which need +1 weapons to be hurt.
So against foes which need +3 or more, you will need to switch to another weapon such as the sling of everard or tansherons, or buy +3 arrows from watcher's keep.

I could easily be wrong, but I believe that it is the bonus class of the weapon - and not the ammo - that's SUPPOSED to matter in determing whether or not an enemy gets hit. The ammo bonus just comes in in determing how much damage is done if you succeed in actually hitting anyone. The idea apparently is that a +3 bow or crossbow is supposed to have the same effect as a +3 throwing axe or throwing knife or dart, etc.. HOWEVER during actual play it occasionally seems that that theoretical rule gets broken. So, I suspect that there's a bug floating around in the rule system.
Since I've never played the Archer kit, I've never felt incensed enough to chase down the actual details, so we need a more expert poster to say what the real situation is and whether the various fixpacks cleaned up the bug.

Thanks for the clarifications. The missile business is really messed up it seems.
