Trouble Report: Application Crash upon v1.03 update.

1.  Version info. Dragon Age 2 v1.03 via Steam client digital download (package v. 1559)

2.  Trouble event. Something kicked me out of the game, and then when I tried to run the game again, I could not hit "play" in the loader since it was grayed out.  I saw the notice that a new version (1.03) had come out, and I used the Steam update, which ran automatically, to patch it.  From that time onward, the game crashes when I try to load a save or start a new game.  I get a Windows 7 error message:

Problem signature:  Problem Event Name: APPCRASH  Application Name: DragonAge2.exe  Application Version: 1.3.6124.0  Application Timestamp: 4dca6cba  Fault Module Name: MSVCR90.dll  Fault Module Version: 9.0.30729.5570  Fault Module Timestamp: 4d2c14d2  Exception Code: c0000005  Exception Offset: 0002463e  OS Version: 6.1.7601.2.1.0.768.3  Locale ID: 1033  Additional Information 1: 0a9e  Additional Information 2: 0a9e372d3b4ad19135b953a78882e789  Additional Information 3: 0a9e  Additional Information 4: 0a9e372d3b4ad19135b953a78882e789

I posted this in the other topic thread, but best to deal with it here:

Tiresiaz wrote...

Raen,

I
patched it through Steam, because something kicked me out of the game,
and then the DA2 loader grayed out the "play" button. Also, I cannot
start a new game either. I'm in the process of submitting a formal
support request.

Try rebooting and then running the Steam verify the installation thingy (I forget what its called).  I suspect
you're the victim of poor timing.

BTW, does Steam actually try to apply updated *while* the game is playing?!

It shouldn't, but has been known to at times

I would strongly recommend anyone using 1.03 to start a new game (as annoying as it is)

Hmmm... well that, for lack of a more eloquent observation... sucks.

Yes, it did try to update while I was playing. I did the "validate integrity of game cache" option in the properties. It failed the test; it wants to redownload. I'll keep you informed.

Raen,

Thanks. Re-downloading the game cache fixed the problem. Chalk this up as a solution to that problem. I didn't know that Steam had that capability.

Me neither... glad that shot in the dark hit its mark.  Happy gaming!

Started a new game after installing the 1.03 patch and it froze during the cut scene on very 1st loading of new game. Have the latest Nvidia drivers also. I think it's better to give in with this game. Thought the patch would make things better now they're far worse.

I'll keep trying b ut any advice?

I had the same problem. Doing the solution with checking Steam's integrity fixed the problem though :)

Although this thread was Tieraz', he successfully solved his problem. World Citizen didn't have to hijack it to ask her question, which has not been solved. You need your own personal post. You have a different problem, and you have not included all of the data that is required to allow the other gamers to answer.

I also have a friend who has these spec's

Pentium D 3.0Ghz
3GB Ram
ATI HD3870
Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit

alot of the games work but not Dragon Age 2.

Well dragon age 2 works on my pc flawlessly, but my friends pc is having problems. could it be his cpu is under the min spec?

cheers.

yes, Pentium D is under the min spec and would cause issues, the game requires a Dual Core (many processes at once)

If anyone is going to be able to help you resolve the issues, you will need to 1) start your own thread as your issue is different from the OPs, and 2) give us enough information to try to help you (see the pinned instructions at the top of this forum)

There are some known problems that people can help you resolve, and if something completely new has popped up, the devs will want to know about it so they can try to fix it.
