So I've recently gotten the latest Nvidia driver 275.33, or so I am led to believe (the installation took forever-- I think something may have been wrong with that), along with DA2 patch 1.03. The game seems to be less stable now. First I ran into this issue, but that went away after reloading the game (much like the rainbow issue). But I still had shadows disappearing while clicking on loot. But that also went away after reloading. Most importantly though, I'm now getting repeated crashing at the start of the first cutscene after that video. This only goes away when I turn off "very high" graphics. (all the bottom checkboxes can be unchecked with AA at 4x and it still crashes on Very High)

I've played through the whole game on the settings seen in the first video without these issues before (except occasional random freezes, infrequent though).

Specs...
Windows Vista 64-bit Home Premium
AMD Phenom 9950 2.6 ghz
8 GB ram
Nvidia GTX 560 Ti

Do not use the newest driver. Roll back to 270.61. It was completly unstable with the newest driver. But with the previous one i am getting smooth fps with everything maxed out except AA. I could not play with AA before and now i am running it 4x :S

Win7 64bit
i7 920 Quad Core
6gb ram
GTX470

Running at 1920 x 1200

Edit: Seemed to run good at the beginning, but after a i got to Kirkwall i got more wierd stuttering. Had to turn of AA.

Rolling back does seem to solve the crashing issue mentioned.

I also had the strange shadow issue and 2 crashes within 10 minutes so far, both during cutscenes.  And I refuse to roll back since the newest drivers are really good for The Witcher 2.  Great job on fixing the broken quest and breaking the entire game instead.

Specs:
GTX 470 275.33
Q6600
8GB Ram

Running on Very High and no mods.

A patch that fixes things makes it worse.

Only possible with bioware!

Since rolling back fixes it, it's probably Nvidia's fault.

I'm running with the 275.27 (Beta) driver, and haven't experienced any video related issues at all.
(Just lucky, I guess...)

[*keeps fingers crossed*]

The latest NV patch made the 360 version unplayable for awhile. So no, this stuff does not only happen to Bioware. Nice try though.

Has anyone tried applying the latest Nvidia drivers *after* updating to the 1.03 patch?

I had just installed the latest drivers (275.27 beta) for my 9800GT. I only run DA2 with high textures, but during a brief trial, everything seemed fine after the 1.03 patch in DA2. DAO is another story entirely. It put a giant black border around the game despite having full screen selected and regardless of the resolution selected. Every time I re-loaded, it defaulted back to 800x600 for the resolution (I use 1280x720), and all of the graphics were distorted. I rolled back the driver and all is well again.

All right, I reinstalled the new drivers (275.33) AFTER updating to the 1.03 patch, and I ran into the broken shadows issue (mentioned by the op) again and my game eventually crashes (by the way my game never crashed before, during any patch or a driver I have a relatively stable system).

I rolled back to 270.61 and both of these problems (broken shadows and crashing) are gone. So I'm pretty positive that the new drivers are clashing with the new patch.

Oh, fr crying out loud! *lots of editing after calming down*

These issues are due to the new nVidia drivers. They were reported on the previous beta drivers, and were said to be fixed, but are obviously not. I had the shadows issue with both of the 275 series drivers. Rolled back to 270 and guess what? Everything works flawlessly.

DA2 is not perfect, and nither is Bioware, but the degree of the mob mentality currently on these forums is nothing short of amazing. They should do a study on it. Image IPB

Yep, this totally looks like nvidia's ****ty drivers fault. The patch is pretty sweet actually. Time to report this on nvidia forums as well.

I guess I am having the same exact issues as everyone else in this thread with Nvidia drivers 275.27. Both crashes during cutscenes and the shadow problem from the OP. My thread is here. I guess I'll have to try the last 270 version drivers, but I think they have problems with The Witcher 2.

God damnit.

Bioware, just use the Unreal engine you use in Mass Effect. It looks great and when has the unreal engine ever had any performance problems?

Sorry if i am harsh, but Bioware is not good at developing graphic engines. The NWN engine sucked, DAO engine was not good either. And the DA2 engine also comes with heaps of problems. Or maybe get the licence for the Witcher 2 engine, as it is supposed to be amazing for developing RPG games, and it looks better than all of your games except ME2 which looks just as good.

Don't do anything Merwanor says. Some of us still want toolset support in Dragon Age games.

So I'm not the only one who has funky twitching lightning/shadow changes indoors.

Good.

Yep, same problems. Shadow bugs plus crashes during conversations and sometimes crashes at the beginning of a fight.

I updated the nvidia drivers first and then updated DA2.

The shadow/light source issue in DA2 was annoying enough for me to uninstall the drivers. No crashing though.

Same here. In fact I got similar shadow/light source flickering in TW2 as well with the latest drivers, so I had all the more reason to roll back.

Edit:

Yes, and it made no difference.

I have both patch 1.03 and the new Nvidia driver and I have no new problems.

DirectX 9
Geforce 9600 GT

I know my GPU is so old that a new driver is pretty pointless, but I was bored and installed it anyway.

Engine fail.

There's something about advanced targetting in the option menu that you have to turn off to fix this.
