Game won't save

I just reinstalled last night, and am completely updated with the latest patches. I started a new game, and after getting the initial "Go get the furs from my chest" introductory quest, I tried to save. The menu comes up fine, and when I click "Save" and choose the new slot (the only one, because there are not yet any saved games, obviously), it tells me it saved successfully and goes back to the game.

However, when I try to load the save, the load list has no games listed, and when I try to save again, there are somehow no previous saved games again, even though I just saved literally ten seconds ago.

I've heard this can be an issue related to the "My Documents" folder, but I haven't really found any clear explanation on what the problem actually is, or how to fix it. Help? :crying:

I've got NWN2 Gold (the one with MotB included), fully patched, on a Windows Vista 64 laptop, 4GB RAM, an Nvidia GeForce 9300M GS 512MB graphics card with an Intel Centrino processor (don't know the speed right off the top of my head, but the game runs otherwise fine on my machine, with the exception of this issue).

...and the toolset doesn't work, either. I tried launching it (with and without "XP Compatibility Mode" enabled) and it just immediately gives me "NWN2 Toolset has stopped working". What the hell is wrong with my game, it worked just fine a year ago when I first bought it :(

EDIT: Okay, I got the toolset working by following the advice in the third post of nwn2forums.bioware.com/forums/viewtopic.html but the game still won't create a save file.

Are you getting an error message when you save? Do you have enough free disk space? Are you sure you are looking in the right place for the save files?

I'm not getting any error messages. I hit ESC to bring up the in-game menu - click "Save" - click "EmptySlot" - give it a name and click "Save" - the game says "Saving...Save successful!"

I have hundreds of gigs of free hard drive space. If space were an issue, installing an enormous game like this would've been the last thing on my mind.

This is part of the issue. Exactly where SHOULD the game be saving to? I don't know where to look for the save files, but it seems like the game doesn't know, either, because if I go to the menu and choose "Load", there are no game saves listed.

EDIT: If I go under C:/Users/<My User Name>/Documents  there is a Neverwinter Nights 2 folder, and inside that is a Saves folder. It is empty.

Nevermind, I got it working. The issue was...something unique to my case which I don't believe anyone else should experience because it had to do with a botched system restore on my part from a couple months ago that I never caught until it caused this. Suffice to say there was an issue with the way I restored my backup files, and I screwed up my "Documents" folder. I went back and properly restored it, and now the saves have no trouble finding the directory. I doubt this info will help the other people who also run into this problem, though.

That's not entirely true. I have the exact same problem and I really need to know how you fixed it.

I'd try a personal message to Vlad. I don't think he frequents this forum.
