Hi all,

It's been a very long time since I've played BG, and what with a week of chicken pox aka week off work, I just finished a very satisfying run with a ranger/cleric and the NPCs in the game. I've made my own party hundreds of times before, so I want to start a new party. However, my multiplayer won't work (crashes every time I click "New Game") and I can't seem to put the game into windowed mode (the workaround I used previously). I have:

1. Installed EasyTutu, Widescreen but I don't remember them causing problems before.
2. Tried Alt-Enter, and disabling Full Screen in the graphics options, neither worked. When I went back to the graphics menu, Full Screen button was always on despite me deactivating it.
3. No inclination to use Lvl 1 NPC or Shadowkeeper to get the classes I want.

It's very frustrating because a year ago, when I installed everything with mods, I checked to see if I could get multiplayer to work and figured it out. I haven't changed any part of the installation since.

Help much appreciated.

#2 indicates to me that the computer is not updating your changes.
Try installing to a different drive i.e. not programs.
Does your single player game work?
More that happy to upload a save game file with whatever stats/ characters you need.

I have it installed in Programs (eeek! I know!), but until now it was absolutely fine. I do think a reinstall will help, the only problem being I've moved house and only took the ToB disc to minimise hassle. I don't suppose simply moving the folders to a different location will make a difference?

Single player works beautifully, albiet a few issues I have with specific spawns not working and dialogue occuring at the wrong times, which I'm chalking again to needing to move the game to a different location, or just a fresh reinstall.

But until I go back to my old place at the end of the month, I won't have the other discs, so I guess it's just solos for now :D And if I do get frustrated, I will gladly take you up on your kind offer to create a party for me (I want you to sit there and roll 95 stat points for EVERY CHARACTER MWAHAHAH).

Just list what you want the party to be i.e. true neutral female elf mage (pc), lawful evil male dwarf bard & neutral good female gnome battle guard of tempus etc... you will also need to tell me stats too i.e. str =18/35 dex =9 etc

Try running the bgconfig.exe in your install folder and changing the cache size to be higher and test your graphical settings and change to windowed mode from there. Worked for me.

Cheers, ussnorway! Did a little tweaking and it's good to go, exactly how I want it, so thanks heaps :D Until I do a reinstall, won't be able to solve the problem. But I'm happy for now.

Tried running the bgconfig and still, the game crashes when trying to create a game or join a game. The machine of mine where this is happening is using win 7 ultimate, has a quad core cpu, 4 or 8 gigs of ram, and plenty of room for cache. The only real differences between it and my other machine where the game works is the network adapter. The machine that doesn't work is using an nforce chipset.

Alrighty, windowed mode was the solution to my problem last time, but on my fresh install it doesn't seem to be helping at all.

The only thing I did differently was install Tutu in a seperate folder to Program Files and change the BGConfig to windowed before installing the Widescreen mod.

So, not entirely sure what's happening. The game is technically in windowed mode, but multiplayer still crashes when I hit "New Game". I've tried running as administrator and on XP Service packs (and pretty much any compatability that's not vista or win7).

Joy of joys!

Is your firewall blocking it?

If you installed the widescreen mod I think that's your problem. That effectively overrides the config instruction to use windowed mode so that you are playing in full screen. Try uninstalling this mod, then creating the party. Once you've got the party you want you can save it and move the save from multi to single player save folder (and then its safe to reinstall widescreen).

That worked a treat, so cheers!

It's unfortunate that I will have to uninstall and reinstall widescreen every time I want a custom party game, but at least I have that option now.
