Do enemies that use bows completely ignore your defense rating? I have like 75% defense on my duelist rogue and the weakest archers (critter rank) hit me 100% of the time with arrows it seems... I tested it by standing still and facing an archer (told team to wait somewhere)... and the archer hit me every single time (let him fire about 40 arrows at me).

I tested vs melee and defense seems to work vs that (regular rank enemies seem to miss about 3/4 of the time vs my 75% defense... which is correct).

Also, arrows also seem to completely ignore obscurement as well (i.e. chameleon's breath ability)... I activated chameleon breath and arrows still hit me 100% of the time (though once again, melee attacks miss almost always while obscured).

Kinda wish the tooltips would mention that these stats work only vs melee.

Looking at you little research it seems that they ignore defense, I never realised it with my rogues (defense always capped), I asked those archers countless times "Do you ignore defense?" and the archer just "ARRRRGGHHH!", died.

But it is also logical that it only depends on the archers attack if he hits you or not, it is far more difficult to evade or parry an arrow than a blade.

You'd think that, but these damn arrows seek you if you run around too. Its a stupid mechanic that just makes hostile archers more deadly than the soldiers usually.

Wow. This explains why Varric dies a lot, even with 40 Cunning and Defense runes. And he always looks like a pincushion. I guess in hindsight that should have been clearer to me.

A common misunderstanding. Defense does not actually allow you to 'dodge' attacks. Melee or Ranged. If you make your defense check, it turns a regular hit into a 'glancing blow.' Glancing blows still hit but do very minimal damage. Because of this, they can still apply secondary effects. Makes it really obvious with bowshots, since they can knock you around.

Defense is also a direct test vs. Accuracy and not a flat roll vs. the tooltip percentage. Archer units seem to have much better accuracy. So their shots might not 'glance' as much.
