I'm just curious, do you have a canon playthrough? Or even more than one and still canon?

* TL;DR VERSION AT THE BOTTOM *

I'm asking this because I finished my first playthrough of DA2 just about three days ago, and I just started two completely new games thanks to the arrival of the latest 1.03 patch which I was waiting for before resuming. In my first playthrough I played as a Rogue, and I imported my completed Dragon Age: Origins game as well, and the DAO game I imported is my canonical one, but I have two other completed DAO games as well, although I don't consider them canon (basically I just provoked different events to occur in those out of curiosity, not to mention that they are from different starting Origins as well for which I don't particularly feel "attached" to).

* SPOILERS AHEAD *

So my first DA2 playthrough is / was:

º Rogue Female Hawke
º Canon DAO game imported (Warden lives, Alistair died killing the Archdemon, Anora is queen, Leliana romanced, and much more but I won't write a novel about that in this thread hehe)
º Played DA2 with around 80% "kind" dialog selections, a few "sarcastic" ones and rare harsh/"hostile" exceptions
º Merrill romanced (Dalish clan lives, keeper died)
º Convinced Varric to kill Bartrand to end his suffering
º All companions were Friendly by Act III (including Sebastian)
º Bethany survived (went to the Circle), Carver & Mother died (death scenes from both were quite awkward)
º Isabela "stole"/kept the book and escaped Kirkwall (does that always happen?)
º Arishok / Qunari attacked the city, I killed Arishok but the viscount died (always happens like that?)
º Sided with Mages only at the very end
º Chantry blew up (I think it always does?), I killed Anders (surprised by the lack of reaction to that from Sebastian)
º Fenris turned against me (sided with Meredith/Templars), he died
º Orsino used Blood Magic and turned into that monster thing (I think he always does?), he died
º Meredith died
º Hawke escaped Kirkwall with Merrill (according to Varric at the end)

That's pretty much the "main" events that I can recall. I consider that playthrough to be canon so far simply because I imported my canon DAO game for it, but I must say that what was kept from that DAO game and brought as consequences to my DA2 playthrough was rather... unexpectedly disappointing (except perhaps for the short but still appreciated appearance of Leliana and her acknowledgement of my Warden and her love for her). I could always "re-do" another DA2 playthrough again with that same DAO import for a more "precise" canonized story though if I feel the need for it eventually, or even with an imported game from Awakening which I've yet to canonize via a proper playthrough. Although I assume that importing a game from either Awakening or even Witch Hunt won't exactly make a DA2 playthrough much more relevant in relation to the retained events from those unless for some reason more things were kept from Awakening and Witch Hunt than from Origins for DA2. I suspect that the only "advantage" for importing a game from Awakening would have to be related to Anders and Justice, which I can easily live without, as for Witch Hunt, well I'm not sure, is there anything mentioned from that one in DA2?

Since a couple of hours however I've been switching my game-play time between my two new games, but I haven't imported a saved game from DAO for them. I started one with a Warrior Hawke, along with the pre-set "The Martyr" DAO story-line, and the second one being with a Mage Hawke supported by the default "Hero of Ferelden" story-line. I learned soon enough during the first moments of the Mage playthrough that Carver is pretty much assured to stay and that Bethany always dies (I'll have to get used to that one, I liked Bethany for the short time I saw her in my first playthrough, until I told her to stay with Mother). Another thing concerning a Mage Hawke is... well I hadn't thought about it to be honest since I first played as a Rogue but now it just jumps right at my face, the whole story and context of the game concerns rivalry/conflicts between Tamplars and Mages. And well yeah, walking around with a Mage Robe and a staff in front of the Tamplars without any hostile reactions, even not just verbal ones, made the immersion go down the drain pretty fast. But despite that I'm willing to try my best at self-imposing some really heavy suspension of disbelief for that playthrough and just play as a Mage for the sake of casting spells and helping my party with that instead of going melee, so I'll just do it for the game-play style, but I do expect a lot of head-scratching and awkward moments in that playthrough.

Anyway yeah, I'll play my new games but I was very comfortable with all the decisions I took in my first playthrough. It was the same in Mass Effect and ME2 as well, I got a canon Shepard/playthrough in ME1 first (took me around 7 or 8 playthroughs over the years to get everything as I wanted), then resumed that one onto ME2 (took around 4 or 5 playthroughs to "canonize" things as I liked). As for DAO, phew, that one was tough, and long to canonize, I played it completely around six or seven times I believe (and I STILL have to try a Dwarf Origin after all that time, but I know I don't want a Dwarf as a canon Warden, but I'm curious and I'll try that eventually for the fun of it). So now in DA2 my two new Hawkes are also different in terms of dialog responses (just part of my "role-play" for each characters), as I mentioned my Rogue Hawke was mostly kind in her responses, but my new ones are way more sarcastic and hostile in comparison, that being for the Mage and Warrior Hawkes, respectively. I only just started with both of them but as far as being harsh in responses goes I'm surprised to see such little impact in the game, even from what the NPC's own replies to me do imply, after I practically jump at them out of nowhere from what the dialog lead me to believe (Hawke often makes provocative gestures but we can't exactly "play" hostile, being "harsh" so far just comes in terms of dialog, and still it doesn't provoke much on the NPCs' end, but the sarcastic responses are alright so far).

TL;DR

Same as the original question, do you have one or even multiple canonized playthrough(s)? If so share the details if you want!

Thanks.

I don't have a canon playthrough for DA2. But I do for the Mass Effects and DA:O.

My DA:O canon playthrough seems to have gotten the shaft from BioWare. He was a Dwarven Commoner who was selfish, cruel, and greedy. It was the way he lived as a Casteless which made him like this.

During the travels as a Grey Warden the Warden changed. He began to soften up, he learned to appreciate life more, and fell in love with Morrigan. By about mid-way through the game my role-playing had changed to him actively seeking to right the prior wrongs of his life. This was about the time I returned to Orzammar which wasn't planned but it was perfect.

In the end the Warden built his army, had Alistair stand as king, and then was told about the truth of the Wardens killing Archdemons. He steeled himself and knew what this would cost....and then Morrigan has her offer...which was a tempting offer, especially considering who he used to be...but he couldn't do it. Morrigan left him alone on the eve of battle.

He fought and died killing the Archdemon. He died alone, his love having left him, but knowing full well that his sacrifice was for the best.

And that was my first playthrough in the game. And I was in love with it. I immediately created a Human Noble and planned other runs. That was the only game I played for 2-3 months.

...Awakening, Golems, Witch Hunt, and DA2 all play better with the Dark Ritual. Strictly speaking they can totally be played by the Orleisan (although what's the deal with Witch Hunt with the Orlesian Warden?) but the game import resurrects your character which I never liked.

Loved the hell out of that character.

Yes I do:
  • Female Mage Hawke
  • Canon DA:O import (Warden did the DR and killed the Archdemon, Alistair and Anora rule, Loghain lives, Warden romanced Morrigan and followed her through the Eluvian, etc.)
  • Played DA2 as a sarcastic/funny Hawke with the occasional mix of diplomatic/aggresive options when appropriate.
  • Sided with Athenril's smugglers
  • Romanced Isabela (friendship romance, gave her the Tome of Koslun, duelled the Arishok for her, let her keep Castillon's ship and agreed to join her on her voyages)
  • Convinced Varric to kill Bartrand
  • Convinced Merrill to stop using blood magic, destroy the Eluvian and saved her from her clan without bloodshed.
  • Became friends with Fenris, Aveline, Isabela, Varric and Sebastian. Was rival with Merrill and Anders
  • Allowed Feynriel to join the Dalish
  • Turned Grace and other Starkhaven apostates over to the templars
  • Carver died in the Deep Roads
  • Saved Feynriel in the Fade and allowed him to seek training in Tevinter
  • Opposed Mother Patrice and her fanatics in Act 2
  • Earned Arishok's respect
  • Killed Arishok in a duel
  • Refused to side with either Meredith or Orsino at the beginning of Act 3
  • Helped Anders gather the ingredients for his "potion" but refused to help him get inside the Chantry.
  • Killed Anders after he blew up the Chantry
  • Sided with the mages
  • All my companions stood by me
  • Killed Orsino and Meredith
  • Escaped Kirkwall with Isabela on her ship.
