Question about apparel sizes

I'm a UK size 14 and over here all my t-shirts/tanks are a large.I've ordered tops from the US before and every time they've either been too baggy or too snug,so my question is what tank size will fit a UK size 14 comfortably?
Could a fellow UK boardie or staff member shed some light on this?
~Thanks in advance

I've been trying to do the same thing myself over the last few days and just placed an order for a hoodie and a few t-shirts. I'm also from the UK. There have been some old posts in the foums about confusion with sizes and so on. The store give measurements for height and width of the garment. Apparently the width is the distance from armpit to armpit and the height is from collar to the bottom hem. I just took one of my existing hoodies and layed it out flat and measured it with a tape measure, then bought the closest size erring on the side of caution in case they shrink in the wash. I'll try and find the link to the other posts.

That's the link. Credit to Dan Matrix providing the info.
I'll find out how accurate my measurements are when the order arrives

Hmm,I think I'll try measuring a t-shirt of mine, then.Thank you both for your advice!
I just want to make sure I'm getting the right size. The last thing I want is to fork over cash to get a tank that doesn't fit.I'd still like to know for definate.
