I was on leave during military service, visited a game store on the way home and saw this Mass Effect game everyone was talking about.

My introduction to Mass Effect started with the very first novel Mass Effect Revelation which was released 3-4 months before ME1. I Remember visiting the book store looking for a specific star wars book but unfortunately was not in stock so I opted for an alternative sci fi adventure which was Mass Effect Revelation. I enjoyed the book so much it convinced me to get the game. I've been a fan ever since.

That's intresting, I've never heard of someone who actually read the books before playing the game.

Or thought the books were well written enough to warrent getting the game.

There are only so many times you can describe a Volus as "rotund" or a batarien's eyes as "orbs" before you begin to think that the storyteller would be better off sticking to images rather than words.

The typical "brother comes in to my room and tells me he's playing this awesome sci-fi game and talks about it. I tell him it's probably not my style but I'll give it a shot and falls in love with it before even landing the Normandy on Eden Prime."

Next thing I know, I collect lithographs, own both collectors editions and all of the soundtracks.

Knew about it prior to release from sites/magazines etc, bought it with an Xbox when it came out. Loved the hell out of it. Ended up buying a PS3 later on, decided I wanted another Xbox for Mass Effect 2 mainly, bought another one and loved the hell out of it. Can't wait for ME3.
