It was gamestop's commercial for ME2, showing the terminus armor and m-490 pre-order download.

First off, I'm not much of a gamer.  There are a few games I like, and they will be played to death.  Went from playing Mario on the original NES in the 90s, to playing KOTOR (huge SW fan) in the 00s.  So again, not really a gamer.

Like many, started out with KOTOR.  Loved it (love pen & paper RPGs, so felt very comfy playing).  Had read some stuff about Mass Effect and Fox News on a board that I frequent, so I was aware of it.

The local Circuit City was closing, so I decided to be a vulture and see what they had.  Saw ME1 for $10 - woohoo!  Brought it home, installed, and ARGH!  It wouldn't play - my computer's video card couldn't support it.  So forgot it, uninstalled it, left it on a shelf while I investigated video cards, and went back to WoW.

A little time passes, and DA:O is released.  I heard raves on said frequented board, so on a whim I bought it and a new video card.  I reinstalled ME, installed DA.  Figured I'd play a little of one, and a little of the other.  Well, that turned into a love/hate for ME at first - it crashed on my system so many times! My poor PC showed more blue screen in the first week of playing the finicky game than I'd seen in the 3 years I had the PC.  But love overcame hate!!!  I picked up ME and never put it down; to this day I have not played DA, I'm stuck on ME 1&2 (and a bit of WoW, but cancelled that this winter).

I will forever be grateful to BioWare for one thing: forcibly educating me on computers. :D  Thanks to KOTOR, I learned how to purchase and install drives (learned about parallel vs. SATA devices) and RAM.  Thanks to ME, I learned about my PSU & GPU; ME2 taught me about my CPU (single core, hyprthreaded, wha?!).  For ME3 & SW:TOR I plan to build a computer from the ground up.  And they say video games aren't educational!

I got ME2 as a freebie from buying DA2. I loved the DA series and I love science fiction so I thought, "Why not?" I played the "training quest" and my 14 year old son said, "Mom you really should play Mass Effect first so you know the whole story." So I got on Amazon, bought a copy of ME1 and fell in love!!! I'm going to play a renegade male Shep next and I hope they don't go too shooter on ME3. Halo kicks my a_ _ , lol!

I saw some vids about Mass Effect 1 in GAMESPOT. At first I was not impressed by the game play it looked awkward and slow. But, the cinematic vids got my attention it was the first time I saw I game that had realistic eye movements. In my opinion eyes are very important when it comes to games like RPG. But, anyway, I didn't bought it until the price went way down about one year or two after. After that I was hooked, have bought every BIOWARE game since then. So, my expectations for ME3 is sky high.

Saw ME1 on a Steam weekend sale two years ago or so, and remembered some of the commercials about it a few years earlier. Shrugged and bought it.

A friend of mine first mentioned it to me when we were talking about games. The title sounded familiar like I had seen it before. He told me it was the same company that made KOTOR (which was my first rpg) but at first I didn't think much of it. Later I was at my unlce's house and I was looking hrough his 360 games and I saw MASS EFFECT in bold letters.(collectors edition). So I borrowed it and never gave it back.

The same guy told me about ME2 so I went and got that and I was a happy camper.

It was basically the same thing for me. One night I spent the night at my friends house, and when he fell asleep I still wasnt tired so I decided to try some of his games out. I popped in Mass Effect and started going through the first scene and by the time I was finished talking with Joker...I got to be honest I was like "This game sucks" so I just stopped playing. Then one day when I was at my "Uncles" house (He's really just a family friend but he and his wife have known me since I was four and helped raise me sort of) I noticed he had ME and I was bored with all my other games and decided to give it a second chance. So I decided to ask to borrow it and my perspective of the game just totally changed. Now it's probably one of my favorite games sereis, if not my #1 favorite.

This:

Seriously, the music+scene= best trailer ever made. It was the first time a trailer made me stand up and cheer like a baby.

I ordered for both games the day after.

jumped in during Mass Effect 1.
A friend insisted that I pick it up. Took a while to get into it as it was my first ever western RPG, but I fought through and found it to be one of my favorite games of all time.

I remember reading game informer (E3 edition!) and Mass Effect was rated 2nd best in show (or 3rd, one of those) just behind Call of Duty 4.

I had never heard of it before then, as my Bioware fangasm didn't erupt until I had actually played ME.

I noticed the developer was Bioware and remembered having an awesome time wtih KOTOR and a decent time with Jade Empire so I started reading up on it.

I read just a bit about it, mostly the gameplay and known squad mates...and I brushed it off.

Skip ahead a few months...

It was november of 2007 and I had just subscribed to gamefly (not anymore...hated waiting 9 days to return/get a game)
and needed some games to put in my queue.

I saw that Mass Effect was listed under 'New Releases'. I figured what the hell, might as well give it a shot and put it in my queue.

It arrived in the mail about 2 days later (the only time a game took under a week to arrive...sigh) and I had just woken up from my 'nap' at around 9pm. I went downstairs to check the mail and there it was...in the mailbox.

I opened it up and put in the xbox thinking 'this will prolly be decent...nthing special, but decent.' and holy crap.

From the moment I started my mission on Eden Prime to the climactic conclusion, I was engrossed in the experience.

At the end when I thought a certain character might have died in the wtf collision of a certain space ship into a certain tower on the citadel I remember thinking "If this certain character is dead...this ending is perfect."
Of course I didn't know Mass Effect was suposed to be a trilogy so when that certain character walked from the wreckage i thought "They better make a sequel..and it better be quick."

After that, I sent the game back, went to gamestop, bought a brand new copy, and have played the hell out of it since then. I even let my dad have a crack at it (before the PC version came out..he's not very good with console shooters) and he loved it...we're both anxiously awaiting the third one.

This:

Seriously, the music+scene= best trailer ever made. It was the first time a trailer made me stand up and cheer like a baby.

I ordered for both games the day after.

Also this...that is without a doubt the single most epic trailer i've ever seen for anything...ever...ever.

Got my ME2 free because i bought DA2.

Wish i knew about this sooner.
But then i'd have to wait longer for ME3 i guess.

Definitely gonna preorder ME3.
Even though i'll be in the army when its gonna be released..i'll find a way to get it :3

*Edit*

@Moodath

The music is spectacular.

Ever since i found Two Steps from Hell on the internet, i've listened to nothing else.
That was 2 years ago.

Heck, i could delete all my other music, and as long as i had Two Steps from Hell to listen to i'd still be hella happy.

My dad bought it for me, I didn't want to play it because I thought it was a generic Gears of War or Call of Duty kind of shooter game.

I played KOTOR and other Bioware games and really liked Bioware and I heard Bioware fans talking about ME and found out ME was a Bioware game so I knew it had to be good, so I noticed the game on my game shelf and tried it out. Then like a year later ME 2 was out. Now I'm waiting for ME 3 which will hopefully be a 10/10 game.

I saw the article in Gameinformer, the premise sounded interesting and the bioware guy finally had the tech to make a compelling story with compelling gameplay. I took a gamble and lossed with Majesco and there attempt at a trilogy "Advent Rising" and I felt like rolling the dice again.

I played KOTOR near when it was released, but didn't really know who BioWare was back then. I saw videos of the game Mass Effect in late 2007 and didn't recognize BioWare's name at all. I bought it on a whim because it looked like a very innovative game in my eyes. It seemed like a movie and that's the kind of game I wanted to play. I remember experiencing the twists and I was like, "OMG, this is one of the greatest stories I've ever heard. The sci-fi makes sense and it is something believable." Then after finishing the game, I agreed that it was the best game I ever played. Then I looked up BioWare and realized that they also made KOTOR and I became a lifetime fan. But my trust in BioWare completely has been damaged by DA2 recently so now I need to be careful what to get from them now... But ME3 is definitely going to be one of their best games because of the team members they have making it. DA2's team are not the ones who were involved with KOTOR nor Mass Effect so that explains that. I'll just pay attention to what BioWare team makes what.

I never played KOTOR or have ever heard of it, but I did play Jade Empire.

I played Jade Empire so much, that the bottom of the disk was wearing away, and wouldn't load anything. Couple years later I wanted to get another Jade Empire game so could play it on the 360, I seen they had a game called Mass Effect. In the bottom corner it said Bioware, so I figured it would be a good game, sure enough, I was hooked to it like heroine.

You really should try out KOTOR. Get it cheap on Steam and it doesn't require good PC specs of today's computers.

Um... there was this ad on TV about... 5? years ago, where this guy shot some sort of light-ball at some other guys, who then disappeared. Lines then went as follows:

"You ever wonder where they go?"
"I... guess I never really thought about it."

Then there's a picture of a toilet, and angry noises coming from inside.

Somehow, my brain associated this with Mass Effect, and I bought ME1 on a Steam sale for Christmas.

I know Mass Effect wasn't out 5 years ago, so if anybody can tell me what this ad was actually for, that would be great.

Here it is: www.youtube.com/watch

The game crashes when your specs are too good. Modern Radeon cards don't like this game.

I saw the first trailer in my Visual Basic class while I was looking at IGN instead of doing whatever coding project I was supposed to be doing. One of the best decisions I've ever made. I had already been a fan of Bioware before that so as soon as I saw the Bioware logo I knew that I was going to like it.
